1 | Natural man understanding truth? | Mark 12:34 | iriandani | 104440
None whatsoever. There are two kinds of life. The first is 'bios', which is the normal and physical type, it is what you do everyday, it is breathing in, breathing out. The second is 'zoe', which is spiritual life, God's type of life. Jesus said, I have come to give you life (zoe) and zoe more abundantly. Bios doesn't preclude intelligence, imagination, creativity etc, all elements of being created in the image of God, and through which we understand and apprehend the meaning of the world and universe we find ourselves in, and through which the Holy Spirit confronts and convicts us. But 'life' and 'death' are fundamentally understood as relating to the presence or absence of zoe, God's kind of life. Apart from that life, we are dead. Only God is zoe and if He does not dwell within you, making you alive, then you are dead. Hope that helps.
2 | Is it a must to tithe | Mal 3:9 | iriandani | 104366
Makarios, I stand corrected. I re-read your post and we are very similar (some language differences only). Thanks and blessings on you as well. |

3 | Is it a must to tithe | Mal 3:9 | iriandani | 104362
Hey Makarios, you seem to be sliding in a direction different from your first post. I admire that, by the way. My point is still, if what you are saying is true, why even use the term, since it is so loaded with baggage. The word, by the way, means 'tenth'. Also, if what you say is true, what is the principle that remains?
4 | End times? | Revelation | iriandani | 104355
Hi Joel, First, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ" was written around AD 95 and addressed to specific believers who met in specific homes in specific towns. They thought it was written to them and had particular relevance to them especially in light of the persecution coming to them from Rome and the culture. There is the promise of a blessing for any who reads, or hears it read and this includes us. If I read a letter addressed to my grandmother, there may be elements that pertain to me, but it is fundamentally for her. I read it over her shoulders. As regards your statement "I believe the whole Word of God...to that time." This sounds like a noble and righteous statement, but not true. There are very large portions that have no particular relevance to you, like the judgements on specific countries in the minor prophets, the promise to Abraham that he would have a son etc. You might be able to argue that these passages have reference to truths that are relevant to you, but not that they were intended for you specifically. In addition, the Holy Spirit may apply a passage to you personally in a manner never intended by the original author. As regards lions and eagles, Britain and U.S. are hardly the first nations associated with these animals, nor will they be the last. Find me the exact passage would you? Appreciate the questions, by the way. As the aussie's would say, "Good on you". |

5 | Is it a must to tithe | Mal 3:9 | iriandani | 104352
Hi...yes and no, but you would need to 'define' the term 'tithing' for me to answer. If, for example, the term means 10 percent 'gross or net' required as part of religious obligation and that this verse assumes this, then I would disagree. If, on the other hand, you were using a 'very' broad stroke, the idea that giving consumes the requirement of tithing into something greater, unbounded by law or requirement, then maybe. The real problem is that the term has almost unavoidable implications and baggage. We are either under the law or we are not, whether you call it a responsibility, an obligation or a principle.
6 | Natural man understanding truth? | Mark 12:34 | iriandani | 104334
Hi. Perhaps the easiest place to start is with Romans where Paul argues that the truth about God and reality can be understood and discerned from observing the natural creation, so much so that ignoring it is sufficient for judgment. This would mean that the natural man can indeed apprehend truth but that their natural inclination is to actively suppress the truth in order to please the self. You could also talk about Jesus late night discussion with Nicodemus in John 3, a converstaion heavily laden with truth that Jesus expected Nicodemus (a natural man) to comprehend. Hope that helps.
7 | Natural man understanding truth? | Mark 12:34 | iriandani | 104193
Hi Ray, Caught between two worlds, one passing away, one real. John 3 passage is a personal favorite speaking in part to our uncontrollable freedom (uncontrollable by institutions, systems, the law, 'cancer'). Everything is invested with 'good' purpose. If the only One who is 'good' has chosen not to remove your thorn in the flesh yet, it is because there is purpose in your process. His very presence sustains. |
