1 | AO, was His John 3 not in effect? | John 4:14 | deejhermit | 103394
Ok, I want to get right down to the core of the matter. Is one who is disobidient saved? Can one not obey Jesus' commands and still be saved? Yes Jesus' blood is what saves us, but do you believe His blood will save those who are not obedient to His will??? And here are some scriptures I think you will want to look at before answering this question. James 2:14-26 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, " Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? 17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. 18 But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works." 19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. 20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? 22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God. 24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead NASU True our works are not what save us, but only the blood of Jesus saves. But our faith is dead if we are not obedient and do the good works we are commanded... And dead faith does not equal salvation |

I have meant to make any personal attacks. If it has appeared that why I am sincerely sorry. I have been trying to make points... Maybe I am wrong, or maybe you haven't been paying attention. I realize that Jesus blood is the only thing that brings salvation, but we have to obey God if we accept to receive the gift. Why did Jesus say if person believes and is baptized he will be saved? There's one point, hope it doesn't seem like an attack. |

The scriptures do not say what you just said. That is what you believe, and it doesn't fit with the rest of the Bible. |

Paul didn't preach to the Eunuch, Philip did, and he made it a part of the Gospel. Why did Paul baptize Stephanous if he wasn't sent to baptize? What is Paul talking about in Romans 6, I cor. 12: 13, Gal. 3: 26-27, and why was Paul himself baptized after Jesus appeared to him and told him to go and he would be told what to do???Ananias told him to be baptized. Why did peter talk about it I pet. 3: 21 when he writes about baptism? The point you were talking about in I cor. where paul says he was not sent to baptize... He is addressing division among the corinthians over who they follow. He is not negating the importance baptism, but showing them not to be think the person who baptizes them should be their Lord. Please stop taking verses out of the Bible and lifting them out of the Bible. How can you say christians needn't be baptized when Jesus says they should??? |

Why is it that after Philip PREACHED UNTO HIM JESUS, (him being the ethiopian), the eunuch asked, "HERE IS WATER WHAT HINDERETH ME FROM BEING BAPTIZED?" Obviously part of preaching Jesus, is talking about being baptized with him in his death, JUST AS PAUL TALKED ABOUT IN ROMANS 6. Please read the scriptures

10 | Baptism...What does God's Word say? | John 4:14 | deejhermit | 103310
Hi Hank, I agree with you brother. Jesus blood is the factor that washes our sins away. I say we must be baptized only because Jesus commanded it of us, and I think we agree on that. Thank you for that. |

11 | Baptism...What does God's Word say? | John 4:14 | deejhermit | 103291
Hi Hank, Jesus has all authority, and we need to do all things in the name of Jesus, (Col 3: 17) Jesus reveals to us what we should do in the Bible. He told the apostles in the Gospel of John that the comforter would come and teach them and remind them of they had learned. So when Peter filled with the Holy Spirit told the Jews on the day of Pentecost to repent and be baptized into the name of Jesus to recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost, what Jesus said was being fulfilled - the comforter had come. Jesus has all authority to judge us. What will he judge us by? His Word. We need to stop looking at particular passages, (like the theif on the cross), as if they are the whole of God's revelation. But if we look at the entirety of the scriptures with an honest heart it won't be so hard to understand that we need to obey Jesus in everything. |

12 | Baptism...What does God's Word say? | John 4:14 | deejhermit | 103253
I am afraid that the situation with the theif on the cross can be abused when talking about baptism. We need to look at all of God's revelation. Is Baptism necessary to be saved? What does the Bible say? Matt 28:18-20 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, " All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 " Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." NASU Acts 2:38-41 Peter said to them, " Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 "For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself." 40 And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, " Be saved from this perverse generation!" 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. NASU Acts 8:12-13 But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike. 13 Even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed signs and great miracles taking place, he was constantly amazed. NASU Acts 8:36-39 As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?" 37[ And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."] 38 And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing. NASU 1 Peter 3:21-22 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you-- not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience--through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him. NASU These are just a few of the many examples of people being born again into Jesus, buried with him in the waters of baptism, just as Paul talks about in Romans ch 6. Peter says that baptism saves, and not Peter, but the comforter who spoke through Peter. Jesus told them the comforter would come and teach them and remind them. How can we argue with the Bible? God's revealed Word tells to be Baptized, I for one am not going to argue with God. ps - all those examples compared to one theif on the cross, whom was next to Jesus who had all authority on earth as He hung there next to the thief... |
