Dear Val, May I ask, do you personally believe washing hands before eating is wrong? Do you personally believe the Pharisees transgressed the command of God by changing the penalty of death? It seems to me that as much as their hearts were wrong, how can you fault them for their decisions on hand washing and the death sentence? I am just trying to make sense of Jesus' teachings. If I can't reconcile the rationale how am I to understand what he wants me to do? Should I abandon hand washing and fight for reinstatement of the death penalty to rebellious children? If I don't them like many people today, I am rejecting his teachings. Dave Dave |

Dear Val, If Jesus was trying to reveal the faults of the proud and self serving Pharisees, as you say their hearts were wrong, what was wrong with them continuing the God given tradition of washings hands before eating bread? And what was wrong with the Pharisees changing God's outdated death command to a rebellious child? Dave |

Dear WOS, Jesus was asked by the Pharisees why was it that his disciples did not wash their hands before eating their bread. The answer Jesus gives is confusing. I can't imagine there is anyone who believes that washing one's hands before eating is wrong, therefore my question is why did Jesus call them hypocrites? Dave |

Dear Val, You say the Pharisees were wrong about just about everything. If they were wrong about washing hands and they were wrong about changing God's command of death to a rebellious child, them are we just as wrong, hypocritical and blind as the Pharisees? Everybody knows we as modern Christians believe in washing of hands and the abandonment of the death penalty. If Jesus is teaching us a lesson here, what is he trying to say? In reality, we are doing exactly as the Pharisees did. Dave Dave |

Hello keliy, my friend in the Lord, you say that Jesus knew the hearts of the Pharisees, therefore he was not critical of the washing of hands tradition, but of the Pharisees themselves. Jesus called them hypocrites, the blind leading the blind because they kept the practice of one tradition, but transgressed the command of God regarding a penalty of death to a rebellious child. All I am searching for is what was wrong with washing hands before eating and what was wrong with changing God's hedious law of death to a rebellious child? Thanks to anyone who can help. dave |
