1 | Is New Testament Inspired by God | Bible general Archive 4 | confused??? | 221818
Thank you Azure. I will check out the references you listed. I am not sure what you mean on number 3 though. Are you saying that God has "determined" what you would believe? Or simply that whether or not you believe it, it is the truth? Actually, either way it appears you have still come about to some sort of peace that these books are from God and the other "candidates" like the Gospel of Thomas or the Revelation of Peter or many others should not be included as being from God. Some people have never really questioned that and just accept it. Sometimes I wish I worked like that, but I question virtually everything. So I am looking to hear how you and others have come to the conclusion that the NT is "God breathed". Thank you, confused??? |

3 | Do we have the whole Bible | Bible general Archive 4 | confused??? | 210142
Yes sir. Good to go on that. It is just that recently I have been discussing how we know each book of the Bible belongs and that there were none left out. As I look into this, it seems quite plausible that there are books in there that "may not" be inspired by God and that there also "may be" books not there that have been inspired by God. This is what I am looking for more information on. For example, Martin Luther didn't think Hebrews, Revelations, and James were not inspired. He did not think they belonged. And as I look further back, many of the books (Hebrews, Jude, and Revelations specifically) were very controversial as to whether or not they were the Word of God. Just looking for help on the matter.--confused???

I understand that it may not be a simple answer. But the website is the only direction you (or anyone else) has provided so far. Any other direction would be appreciated. Maybe a book or two or what I was really looking for was to glean from the knowledge of others on the forum. You said alot though in that first sentence. If I understand correctly then we base our theology and our way of life off verses and lessons that may not be "from God". I just always thought that if it was in the Bible then it was the Word of God and if it wasn't in there then it wasn't God's Word. But that may not be the case after all, is that correct? Also, how did our Lord draw the discussion to a satisfactory conclusion? That may help answer my question there. Thank you for your help.---confused???

OK, so I checked out that website. This doesn't really clarify it much though. I mean, from what I saw here many of the early church fathers couldn't agree on which books should be included and which ones shouldn't. Take Hebrews for example. That one was a controversial one and yet we ascribe alot of our doctrine from this book. I guess this is the confusing part...we quote Paul ans say that "all Scripture is inspired (God-breathed)" and yet we can't even be sure which is Scripture and which is not. Am I understanding this properly or am I just missing something?---confused???
