1 | Was the wine alcoholic or not | John 2:10 | bingobongo | 84553 | ||
Tim, As I am new here, and I haven't read all of the responses to your posting about wine: alcoholic or non-alcoholic content, I wouldn't want to bring something to your attention that has already been said. Therefore I won't tip my hand and begin a discussion that I assume has already been beaten like a dead horse, so to speak. The reason that I am writing this is to call your attention to something that you posted. You said: "1) oinos (3631): This word is used 33 times in the New Testament. It is comparable to ‘yayin’ in that it can refer to either fermented or unfermented wine. The prime example being Mt. 9:17, where the fresh new wine is to be put into a new bottle to keep it from fermenting." I commend you on your study of the Greek and Hebrew words associated with wine, but I would like to lovingly point out that the reason that "new wine" was put into new skins was because it was in the process of fermentation and therefore would be allowed to stretch the new wineskins as it fermented. Fermentation always builds up pressure on its container as it turns and old skins would burst under this pressure. I just thought that you might want to re-think this statement. Nothing critical, so please do not take it that way. God bless. |
