2 | Eastern Orthodoxy Interest | 1 Thess 1:1 | beensetfree | 97939
Dear Sparrow-l: Interesting Bible quotes. Thank you for them and I will consider them. I would like to ask you though, how do you respond to God making an image of Himself in Christ Jesus? Didn't Jesus say He was/is God? If you are a member of a Protestant church, do you have a cross hanging on the wall? A cross is an icon (a representation) of the cross Christ hung on. Do you wear a cross on a chain? How do you deal with the images God instructed the Israelites to put in the Tabernacle and on the Ark of the Covenant (cherubim and seraphim)? Did He break His own instructions? No, I don't think He did. As for the early church making icons to "appease unbelieving people," I respectfully disagree. Historically, the early church introduced icons/images to help teach the illiterate the stories in the Bible. As for spiritual worship, I completely agree. But how do you know whether someone who venerates an icon is "worshipping an idol?" Are you able to see into their heart? Only God can do that, so the Bible tells me. An icons are called "windows into heaven." The Bible also says, judge not lest ye be judged. I write all this, not to be contentious in the least, but to respond to your kind thoughts and suggestions and to provide additional food for thought for yourself. Blessings and Best regards, Beensetfree |

8 | Woman's sin worse than man's? | Eph 5:33 | beensetfree | 65749
Mommapbs: You're quite welcome. Something to think about is whether men are 'rejecting' their God-given role of spiritual headship, or have they just 'given up' that role, or have women 'taken it' from them. And even further thought ought to be applied to how can women encourage and empower men to "reclaim" their role as spiritual head! Pray on! Beensetfree:-)
9 | Woman's sin worse than man's? | Eph 5:33 | beensetfree | 65743
At the risk of jumping into a frenzy, please allow me to toss in 2 cents worth. I disagree with Rabbi Mark where he says, “It is reasonable to believe that if Adam had been present, his part in this whole thing would have been recorded.” I do believe everything was recorded. Look at the Genesis 3 passage as one would look at a negative of a picture. The empty space speaks volumes. Adam did not take the leadership position given to him by God, one of being head and protector of his wife. By his silence, he left his wife open to temptation. By not speaking up and reiterating God’s “law” or “rule” of not eating from the tree, he dropped the proverbial ball of leadership right at the serpent’s feet (or lack thereof). Rabbi Mark says, “I don't believe God would have left out something that important.” Here I do agree, God would not have left something important out of His word. And He didn’t. God recorded Adam’s silence, which rings like a gong! And I don’t think this would be considered “reading between the lines” either. May God grant His wisdom to us all as we study His word and seek to determine His principal and truth contained within. Ever praying, Beensetfree

11 | In Gen 1.26, God refers to us and our.. | Bible general Archive 1 | beensetfree | 65392
Zerotheory: Keep in mind that God lives outside of time. He sees all things as present. To put the boundaries of time on something is for our finite understanding. Thus Jesus, God the Father, and Holy Spirit have always been. All were present at creation. The Word of God (Jesus) didn't need to become flesh until the appointed time of the Father, meaning when the Father thought the 'right time' in the world had come. This is a very difficult concept to wrap our minds around. Keep praying and God will reveal the Truth and understanding to you. Another excellent read as to the "Word becoming flesh" and why is a book called "On the Incarnation" by St. Athanasius. Published by St. Vladimir's Seminary Press, 2000.
12 | Imputed sin | Rom 5:12 | beensetfree | 63400
Steve, Emmaus, John, et al: For the benefit of the discussion, I would define "spiritual death" as eternal separation from God; both the loss of grace and justification. I would support this with Ephesians 2:8 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith..." And it is through this that we become justified by God in His eyes. Rom 5:1 "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ..." Thus the grace and justification go hand in hand and are not able to be separated. Blessings to all, Beensetfree |

13 | Is praying to created beings scriptural? | Bible general Archive 1 | beensetfree | 62766
To one and all who have participated in this thread: this has been a most educational thread! I have learned a lot from both sides of the proverbial fence. Thanks for being such blessings and for being reasonable in the "discussion." While I don't prescribe to praying to those saints who have gone on before, I better understand the line of thought.
14 | What does the bible say about separation | 1 Cor 7:39 | beensetfree | 59242
I am in complete support and agreement with SirPent. Very good questions to consider and find answers to before taking any other steps. Doesn't mean it won't be hard, but the right road seems to always be hard. But the blessings are worth it.
15 | Church is kidnapped to Sodom! | James 2:8 | beensetfree | 58632
Good points JesusFreak. I understand your point of view. I completely agree that any "confrontation" by any one to another must be done with a broken heart, tears, and humbleness. Lord forgive any of us if we do anything so difficult as holding a brother/sister accountable for their actions with a smile on our faces and in our hearts, and rubbing our hands together with glee. If the sinner repents and is forgiven, of course restoration is a must! May all of us be forgiven for our hard-heartedness but may we all have the courage, in humility, to be firm when necessary. (Which of course is often interpreted as hard-heartedness...by some.) Blessings to all. This is an intereseting forum!

18 | Church is kidnapped to Sodom! | James 2:8 | beensetfree | 58489
JesusFreak508: Noted in your text is a statement, "Our job isn't to judge him." Please see 1 Cor. 5:10-13. The Body of Believers are to hold one another accountable for our sinful actions and we are to judge one another, rebuke when necessary, and when repentance occurs restore the offender to fellowship in the Body of Christ. Also noted in your text you mention the "offense created in you." We must get the focus off of how we are offended! The focus and bigger picture is the offense to Christ and His Church. Thus the need for Ivory313 to speak to the sinning professor and for the professor to step down. Not because the prof. has offended Ivory313, but because of the offense to God! And you are right on when you say, "pray for him." Pray God is merciful and doesn't strike him where he stands for his sin and for continuing to teach theology to future pastors.
19 | Is the Law abolished or not? | Eph 2:15 | beensetfree | 57863
Matt 5:17 and Eph 2:15 work in concert with one another. Jesus came to fulfill the law. If we are under Christ's headship, we still have an obligation through service to obey the law. The "enmity" Paul speaks of is "sin" which has been abolished by Christ's fulfillment of the law...being the utlimate guilt sacrifice. Scripture always verifies scripture.
