2 | Why did God cast Lucifer out of heaven? | Luke 10:18 | azurelaw | 242410
Dear Brother Doc, Ah..Ha... you hit the button faster than I :-) When typing the answering post, I have a thought that how wonderful and awesome it is that I am created human being not angels for we have been granted Salvation by our precious Lord Jesus that we will not perish forever. I could never understand such a mysterious loving act of God (Rome 16:26) but keep reminding myself to be thankful and stay obedient. Shalom Azure |

3 | Should pastors/preachers be evaluated | 1 Cor 4:4 | azurelaw | 242374
Dear Brother Doc, Thank you and sorry for the late response. I will take a look at the cited article :-) We have pastors, elders and deacons. We do not have specific teaching elders. But if needed, elders will conduct teaching as well but depending on his capacity and ability or gift. In the past (well about 10 years ago), we did not have any official evaluation. However, due to some problems among the ministers (pastor and preachers), the board (contains pastor, elders, deacons) decided to set up an evaluation system in order to improve the communication. Now, new minister joined to the team and think that the evaluation is not according to the teaching in the bible based on the scripture I quoted here. I want to know if 1 Corinthian 4:1-5 relevant to the situation. If yes, how? (To me, the context of the scripture seems not answering this question. That's why I ask "how") If not, is there any scripture specifically/closely related to the issue? Thanks and shalom. Azure |

4 | Should pastors/preachers be evaluated | 1 Cor 4:4 | azurelaw | 242344
Dear daflodeo, Welcome to the forum and thank you for your comprehensive feedback and sharing of your thought and experience. I am afraid that I did not phrase my question clear enough. My point is: is it unbiblical to have an official evaluation system (something like performance appraisal in most organizations) at church on pastors/preachers base on the teaching of Paul as cited in my original post. I agree with your last paragraph concerning 1 Cor 4:1-5, but the context and background in Paul's days at Corinthian was that he was facing problem of division among church members who compare and criticise one another's leaders (Paul, Apollo, Peter). Thus he said about the accountability of the stewards in Chapter 4:1-5. Can this be generally applied to modern days church context when there is commonly a hierarchy system in most denominations and churches that there would be more or less some evaluation for a preacher moving onto the role of pastor? Hope my question is much clearer now. Shalom Azure |

Dear Brother Doc, In echo to your excellent quote, this is what our choir has offered on this Petecost:- Hymn to the Trinity (P. Tchaikovsky) Blessed angel spirits offer praise undying, Ever crying Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth. Saints and Martyrs praise Thy Name, Trinity life-giving, Earth-borne sorrow leaving before Thy throne, Ever crying Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth. Father omnipotent, mighty in glory, Christ Thy Son, our Saviour Who died that we might live. Holy Spirit, mystic dove, dwelling with us evermore, we praise Thee, we praise Thee, Blessed Trinity. With the Angels' sacred hymn, all Thy might proclaiming, with the mystic cherubim in songs of praise we join, Holy, Holy, Holy, join we all in songs of praise forever; Halelujah, Halelujah, Halelujah, Lord God of Sabaoth. 10 | When study what to read first | Bible general | azurelaw | 242104
Dear EdB, Just my 2 cents of another perspective on new Christians reading John. I agree that with the western background mind, the book of John could be difficult to understand. However, as a Chinese, I find that John 1:1 might not be that difficult to understand for knowing God. When it speaks about the "Word", the concept is so much in line with the original "Tao" (in ancient China). I am not saying the religion "Tao (meaning in Chinese : way, word)" is identical to Christian faith. While one of the posts stating that Mark was for Roman, Luke was for Greek; the Christian faith is from eastern world; now John contains element that is so harmonious with one of the major Chinese beliefs and helping Chinese to be familiar with the God mentioned in the Bible. What can I say, but hallelujah! Shalom Azure |

Dear EdB, Thank you very much for your help. By the way, are you able to figure out why only the 450 false prophets of Baal was emphasized there? Could it be that the prophets of Baal were of higher ranking than those of the Asherah? Shalom Azure |

18 | Free in Christ | John 8:31 | azurelaw | 240337
Dear sonofmom, As I read your posts, I pray that God will guide you to a church where you may grow and serve there for His glory. I believe Doc will give you his feedback concerning the affirmation of faith in your church. However, I would like to share a bit of my thought here with you. My church uses the Apostle Creed to confess our faith and we recite it on every Sunday service. The Creed talks mainly about the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The central focus is on Christians' core belief instead of believers duty as the affirmation you have laid out. There is no SPECIFIC EMPHASIS on freedom in Christ either. All in all, the Apostle Creed's confession of faith is God-centred. While I agree your church's affirmation of faith is important for new members to guard their behaviour, however, I am afraid too much emphasis on them could side-track our central belief. I always wonder why churches like to develop their own affirmations of faith instead of using the jewels or refined gold that have been passed onto us by the saints of the old. Shalom Azure |
