I'm not saying that Satan won't do some supernatural things to mislead those that walk by sight and not by faith. (2 Cor 4:18)
5 | The ransom - God or man? | 1 Cor 15:21 | alienresident | 132731
You said: "If you can't accept that on faith, you really do need to find yourself some other forum on which to espouse your message of sorrow and sadness for without Jesus Christ as the One and Only Perfect Sacrifice, you don't have a prayer of finding any happiness." Not understanding you. Prayer and study are not enough. Humility is key to understanding and enlightenment. City Boy. |

Hank: Why do you always resort to name calling when you can't refute the reasoning presented? Can you explain to anyone why God waited 4,000 years to provide the ransom? Why did Jesus have to be born of a virgin? Why did he have to live so long before his anointing? Why did he have to suffer so much before his death? Can you explain why 2,000 have past since Jesus' sacrificial death? A mystery? |

Jer 9:6 - "Your sitting is in the midst of deception. Through deception they have refused to know me,” is the utterance of Jehovah." DOES IT SOUND LIKE GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY WAS CHALLENGED TO YOU? Job 2:4,5 - "But Satan answered Jehovah and said: “Skin in behalf of skin, and everything that a man has he will give in behalf of his soul. For a change, thrust out your hand, please, and touch as far as his bone and his flesh [and see] whether he will not curse you to your very face." Ezek 5:13 - "And my anger will certainly come to its finish and I will appease my rage on them and comfort myself; and they will have to know that I myself, Jehovah, have spoken in my insistence on exclusive devotion, when I bring my rage to its finish upon them." Ezek 6:7 - "And the slain one will certainly fall in the midst of YOU, and YOU will have to know that I am Jehovah." Ezek 7:4 - "And my eye will not feel sorry for you, neither will I feel compassion, for upon you I shall bring your own ways, and in the midst of you your own detestable things will come to be; and YOU people will have to know that I am Jehovah." SOUNDS LIKE A SOVEREIGNTY ISSUE TO ME! |

I'm glad you waited as your comments seem most contemplative. I agree, the law was a tutor leading to Christ. The sacrifice of animals, according to God's arrangement, allowed for temporary relief only or atonement for sins. As Paul defines, the blood of animals was not able to save continually, being inferior to man's blood that "contains the soul" or life. God does not condone the taking of innocent blood, so of course God's people were not instructed to use humans for sacrifice like the pagans. But the fact is, not even a human could stand in for Adam's life, as he was created sinless. You say the question should be “Did God have to become man?” That will work for this discussion as well and may be better. The answer in my opinion is NO. The one to become man only had to be sinless, and any faithful angel could have satifsfied this criteria. If you read all my posts, you know why I feel God could not have been the ransom. To reiterate, "all his activities are perfect." (Deut 32:4) The ransom had to be like Adam in order to be truly tested by Satan. The issues raised by Satan, in order to be resolved, would have to involve a created being with freewill and living in the flesh in the physical realm. The theme of the Bible is not man's salvation (although that is a secondary theme). The theme is the vindication of God's rightful sovereignty. God could not prove this without the testimony of his creation. So Jesus being the ransom, he must be created. Is this Scriptural? (Col 1:15; Rev 3:14; Prov 8:22) |

Tim: In a previous post you cited 1 John 5:7 in support of the ransom having to be God Himself. If you're quoting the KJ, do you know that this verse is not inspired of God, but inserted in later copies? If not, can you explain why you used it? I could sit here and try to convince you how ridiculous it is to try to claim Jesus was both 100 percent man and 100 percent God, but why? He has to be either one or the other in my mind in order to conform to rational thought. Don't ask me to think irrationally for that's what Satan wants and I know you wouldn't intentionally side with him. |

You said: "This passage (Ex. 21:30) concerns the civil laws of the Mosaic Law. It may or may not be applicable to God Himself." I profess that God will not violate a law that he expects us to keep. Thus He gave his only Son as great cost to Him rather than creating a new Adam. If Psalm 49:7,8 "proves that God Himself would have to pay the ransom," then Jesus was not a man at all. This God/man mystery has alway irritated me. As regards, Rom 5:14, in what way did Adam imperfectly foreshadow Christ? He perfectly foreshadowed him in his nature as a sinless man, but I fail to see how he typified Christ imperfectly. The high priest prefigured Jesus in Paul's explanation, not Adam. Adam's sin is the reason why the whole law, priesthood and sacrifice arrangement were instituted. |

You correctly say: "Your understanding of God's justice and what Scripture actually says about God's justice may be two different things." Of course, you wouldn't exclude yourself from this truism. Thus, we seek as for hidden treasure to gain the very knowledge of God that He promises to truthseekers. The power of reason cannot be avoided, though it might seem convenient. You probably can think of an example of someone that has absolutely believed he was following the correct interpretation of the Bible as he carried out some ungodly act. Not only can one look at a verse and misinterpret it, he can fail to see the obvious that is not directly stated. In addition, the Bible does not contradict itself. For instance, the Ex 21:30 mentions the death may be redeemed for a price, but Psalm 49:7,8 says no one can redeem a even a brother, the price is too high. Reason tells us the first verse relates to a temporary solution while the latter is speaking of our eternal redemption. I'm trying to reason on why the Scriptures say “The first man Adam became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." Jesus resembled Adam before his downfall. (Rom 5:14) Created in God's image and likeness, he perfectly reflecting God's glory, to a far greater extent than is possible for God's other physical creations. This man was to be our "eternal father." Most people do not grasp, because their teachers ignore, the superiority of Adam to us as his defective progeny. In so doing, they overlook the purposeful God of the Bible and the marvelous hope made possible by the ransom. Many even teach that Adam repented and reigns in heaven with Jesus! Show me the Scriptural support for that. |

Satan's world would have us believe that one person's life may have more value than another. (We think of perhaps the president and someone taking a bullet for him.) But God is not partial. (Acts 10:34,35) The distinction with the ransom, however, is the life had to be perfect. Any perfect creature could stand in for another perfect creature, and any sinful creature could do the same for his sinful brother. One could argue: "God can do whatever he wants!" But will he do so and if it means violating his own laws? Of course not! Jesus called the Pharisees "hypocrites" for such behavior. Yes, He would never do something that would cause his intelligent creatures to loose respect for his position as Universal Sovereign, which is just what Satan wants. |

You say "Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness." Jesus said "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." This means everlasting life, "knowing the only true God and the one he sent forth, Jesus Christ." (John 17:3) God could have made the whole earth a Paradise - Why did he place Adam in a garden portion and assign him and his offspring to do it? God can make the rocks cry out - Why does he expect Christians to tell the good news? Yes, God can do anything, but in this case also, he has a reason for doing what he did. Divine justice and a reply to Satan's lies required that someone of Adam's equivalent stand in. No one would ever know whether a perfect man could have resisted Satan if God himself stood in. There's no mystery, it just is not the ending too many have been lead to accept. I agree Jesus had a prehuman existence as indicated by 1 Tim 3:16. In fact, this is necessary for the Messiah as I've pointed out previously. Sincerely. |

Read this carefully, for this is God's standard of justice: "But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise. If a man hits a manservant or maidservant in the eye and destroys it, he must let the servant go free to compensate for the eye. And if he knocks out the tooth of a manservant or maidservant, he must let the servant go free to compensate for the tooth. "If a bull gores a man or a woman to death, the bull must be stoned to death, and its meat must not be eaten. But the owner of the bull will not be held responsible. If, however, the bull has had the habit of goring and the owner has been warned but has not kept it penned up and it kills a man or woman, the bull must be stoned and the owner also must be put to death. However, if payment is demanded of him, he may redeem his life by paying whatever is demanded." (Exodus 21:23-30) Interesting, since willfull sin causing death could not be paid by ransom, the merits of the ransom cannot be applied to Adam. I'll show you the law the states this as well if you can't find it. |
