Angel, It's to my understanding that a Christian is a person who has accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. According to Gal. 5:16, we have two natures, a fleshly nature and a spiritual nature. I would love to tell you that since my relationship with Christ that I have not committed a sin. But I can't. Can you?? Personally, I'm having a difficult time understand why God would tell us to forgive one another when He won't forgive us for committing a sin that's not even the unpardonable sin. "Once saved always saved" has been discussed, debated and even argued over on this forum. Some believe you can loose your salvation, and some believe you can't. I BELIEVE YOU CAN'T!! One of the many reasons that I believe this is because "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus", and if you followed Romans 8 down to the 35th verse, you’ll see that there is absolutely nothing in heaven or hell that can separate me from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus, and I do believe that would include suicide. If I committed suicide and went to hell (figuratively speaking), then the question is, was I a Christian to begin with. There will be many that say Lord, Lord, and will be denied because Jesus will claim to NEVER have known them, not, “I knew him at a point and time in his life and he fell away”, but, “I NEVER knew you”. Are there levels of sin?? Is the taking of a life any worst then lying, stealing, or cheating on ones taxes in the eyes of God?? Perfection is not one of my strong points. I’m working in that area, but I’m not there yet. I have been known to be wrong, and if I am, then pray for me, ‘cause it would probably take an act of God to change my stance on Loosing one’s Salvation. The CurtMan |

2 | Quench the Spirit until extinguish? | Gal 5:17 | TheCurtMan | 116493
Ray, I'm writting this post to you, Flinkywood, New Creature and everyone else who have taken the time to be of assistence. I've read Adam Clark's Commentary, and spoken to some people, and althought I still do not have a clear picture on your use of spirit and Spirit, I have enough of it to see that my perspective was in error. So thanks to everyone who has taken the time to point me in the right direction. The CurtMan |

4 | Quench the Spirit until extinguish? | Gal 5:17 | TheCurtMan | 116391
Ray, I had an afterthought that might shed a little light to where I stand. I'm understanding 'quenching the Spirit completely' as 'quenching the Spirit indefinitely' If I 'quench the Spirit indefinitely', I'm saying the Spirit has no place in my life. I'm the boss and I do as I see fit. I'm understanding 'quenching the Spirit indefinitely' as loosing my salvation. Does one has anything to do with the other, or am I'm on the wrong track?? This brings me back to the original question, "Can the Spirit be quench until He is extinguished??" The CurtMan |

Well gee Searcher 56, I was sitting here wondering how to respond to Mr. Dollar, or even if I should. I totally agree with you 100 percent. Whatever you have in reference to Mr. Creflo, I'm totally interested in. The CurtMan |

I totally disagree with you. I think your two-cents worth are worth more than two cents. I am in need of some info. pretaining to Adam Clarke. What do you have or suggest?? I'm interested in knowing what his beliefs are in someone loosing their salvation, and especially the 8th chp. of Romans. Could you point the way?? I'd greatly appreciate it. The CurtMan |

7 | Quench the Spirit until extinguish? | Gal 5:17 | TheCurtMan | 116363
Thanks for the advice Ray; I will heed it. What struck my curiosity was that a question was asked, “Does it mean we can fade the Holy Spirit until we extinguish it completely?” What I read as an answer was a quotation from Adam Clarke’s Commentary. I couldn’t get an answer to the question from the quotation. Which was the reason for my question. I now have the answer, but I didn’t then. According to the ‘Believer’s Bible Commentary’ by William MacDonald; edited by Art Farstad, this is what is said in reference to 1 Thess. 5:19, “The next four verses seem to deal with behavior in the assembly. To quench the Spirit means to stifle His work in our midst, to limit and hinder Him. Sin quenches the Spirit. Traditions quench Him. Man-made rules and regulations in public worship quench Him. Disunity quenches Him. Someone has said, ‘Cold looks, contemptuous words, silence, studied disregard, go a long way to quench Him. So does unsympathetic criticism.’ Ryrie says that the Spirit is quenched whenever His ministry is stifled in an individual or in the church”. William MacDonald tends to see the Spirit in this verse as a He. It even refers to His ministry. My John MacArthur Study Bible capitalizes Spirit in this verse. Even Matthew Henry refers to the Holy Spirit. “Christians are said to be baptized with the Holy Ghost and with fire. We must be careful not to quench this holy fire. As fire is put out by withdrawing fuel, so we quench the Spirit if we do not stir up our spirits. And as fire is quenched by pouring water, or putting a great quantity of dirt upon it, so we must be careful not to quench the Holy Spirit by indulging carnal lusts and affections, or minding only earthly things” I have always believed that the Spirit in this verse is in reference to the Holy Spirit. The question is, “Is it possible to completely quench the Holy Spirit?” Ray, this is not a debate. All this is my personal perspective on the matter. What I believe, and partly Why I believe it. However, I am very interested in this Adam Clark. Would you happen to know if I can read his commentary on-line, or do I have to purchase it?? The CurtMan |

8 | Quench the Spirit until extinguish? | Gal 5:17 | TheCurtMan | 116312
New Creature, Please forgive me if I'm misunderstanding your post, but is it possible to 'completely' quench the Spirit until it is completely extinguish?? You said, "It is the Spirit of love, and therefore anger, malice, revenge, or any unkind or unholy temper, will quench it so that it will withdraw its influences; and then the heart is left in a state of hardness and darkness." Once the heart reaches this state, is it possible for it to be restored?? If restoration is possible, then can it be said that the Spirit was quenched completely. If restoration isn't possible, then would that not contradict a number of biblical principles?? Then you said, “It has been observed that fire may be quenched as well by heaping earth on it as by throwing water on it; and so the love of the world will as effectually grieve and quench the Spirit as any ordinary act of transgression.” I really couldn’t get a “Yes” or “No” out of your comment, but from what I know is that when you use either water or earth to extingush a fire, when it is extingushed, for the most part, it is completely extingushed. Which is the reason for my question. Like I said, my apologies for misunderstanding your post if I did, but I am courious. The CurtMan |

No Hank, I'm not suggesting any hidden meanings. I found it interesting the way the numbers looked and added up. I also found it interesting because one of my favorite verses is Prov. 3:5-7. Casual Interest is a good way of putting it, basically, that's all there is. However; the verse in Psalms will go hand in hand with the one from Prov. It's the verse I normally use when I encounter someone who is seeking God's will in their life. |

11 | What is Love?? | Matt 22:37 | TheCurtMan | 115982
I appreciate all the responces I've received, THANKS!! Funny how things worked out. I saw the little boy yesterday just prior to him being escorted home by his grand parents. They only had him on a shot term basis. I asked him if he remembered me. He shook his head yes. I asked him if he remembered the question he asked me yesterday. He shook his head no. I said you asked me what was love. He said, be nice to people when they make you mad. "Close enough", I said. For a hot second I knew what it felt like to be a proud parent. "That's how you show love. If you want to know what love is, find out who God is because God is love". That one I got from the forum. Because of the expression on his face, I thought I lost him altogether. Then he said, "God is love, who is God?" Ever been put on a spot by a kid?? I said that Jesus came out of Heaven to be punished for him because Jesus loved him and Jesus wanted to always be with him forever and ever. Then he said, "So Jesus is love", "Yes exactly right" Then he said, "Did they make Jesus mad?" I kinda thought of the temple incident and was saved by his grand mother who showed to pick him up. He told his grandmother that Jesus was love. They say that kid was slow, but I saw no traces of it. Thanks again for everyone's help The CurtMan |

13 | What is Love?? | Matt 22:37 | TheCurtMan | 115918
Thanks. I was referring to God's love. This seven year old kid with the mentality of a maybe a six year old asked me what love was. No time to read I Cor. 13. I said that love was the ability to do right by a person inspite of your emotions. He didn't get it. I said be kind to people no matter how mad they make you. That one he got, but it didn't sit well with me. What I tell this kid might affect him for the rest of his life. I have a definate window of maybe three minutes with this kid tonight, after that I can not say. I just thought that I could get a simple definition off the forum by some mature parents. |

Actually I have. My problem is I'm having a difficult time explaining to a seven year old. Thought maybe there were some parents out there who have already been down this road and could enlighten me in areas I've not considered.
15 | How has the "Passion" film changed you? | Luke 24:26 | TheCurtMan | 115801
Ok, so the movie elaborated on some facts that isn't in scripture. Does it really matter?? The original question was, How have the movie Passion changed you? When I saw the movie, my focus was not on the inconsistencies of the movie, I expected that. My focus was on the God, who got up off His throne, came to earth and died a horrible death. Not just so I could escape the eternal damnation that I deserve, but also so I can spend eternity with Him. Now rather the movie went overboard in some areas regarding Jesus' suffering or not, Jesus did suffer, GREATLY. So the movie does not meet everyone's expectations, what biblical base movie that you know of does?? Rather Mel Gibson has hit the nail on the head with this movie, or missed the mark, the movie itself has Christians and non-Christians alike discussing it. Great witnessing opportunity don't you think?? The CurtMan |

Hey Ray, I agree with you. Distinguishing the Word of God is highly important. Giving the fact that you're right, how do you go by rectifying that which is already in print?? Also, is there a Hebrew word that refers to angel and spirit?? I ask because I honestly don't know. What I honestly believe is that God is the Author of His word. I believe that He had His word written the way He wanted it written, II Peter 1:20-21. According to the King James Version of this verse, the bottom half of v.21 says, “…but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” Correct me if I’m wrong, but could this verse indicate that these men wrote as they were instructed to write?? And could this come right down to the very words that they used?? And could I Cor.2:13 be used to validate this point?? Or are these errors the result of translational differences?? And just for the record, I have looked up the verses you provided, and I can see your point, especially in Ezekiel 36:26. There has to be a reason why it is written the way that it is, and I have to believe that it’s the way God wanted it to be. Anything else raises too many questions in my mind. The CurtMan |

Thanks for straightening me out on that. I'm all for being filled with the Holy Spirit. It's to my understanding that if you do not have the Spirit of God residing in you, there will soon be a time when you're going to wish you had. As far as the lower case spirit in reference to the Holy Spirit. I guess I would be one of a group who would find it degrading and offensive. The Holy Spirit is just that, Holy. So why print His name in a lower case thereby denying Him the respect that is due Him, for any reason?? That is unless you do not believe that the Holy Spirit is God. That being the case, then I guess you could print His name anyway you want. It's kinda like Jesus with a small 'j', or Jehovah with a small 'j'. One other thing Ray. I know that sometimes the tone of these letters tend to be misleading. If I'm coming across any other way then frank and straightforward, then it is not intentional. You ask what I thought. 18 | Is Satan Jesus' brother? Gen 3:15 | Gen 3:15 | TheCurtMan | 114467
Thanks for the response and the comments. However; there are a couple of clairifications I'd like to make, as well as ask you a very important question. When I said that Satan was 'terminated', I did not mean to reply that he was dead. What I was referring to was his position in heaven coming to an end. He nolonger have the position that he held. If Satan was dead, then I'd have a lot less trails in my life. In reference to Isa. 14, (sorry about the misquoted scripture earlier) I've always believed that to be a Hebrew Parallelism. Meaning that scripture is referring to more than just one thing, more than just the King of Babylon. One such example of Hebrew Parallelism would be Gen. 3:15. Who do you think God was talking to and about when He said, "He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel" Was He referring to the snake or the devil?? Another good Parallelism would be II Sam. 7:12-13. Who was God referring to Jesus or Solomon?? Everything else at this point isn't as important as the question I must ask for clarification sake. Is Jesus Christ Jehovah?? The CurtMan |

19 | Can this be applied to todays war? | Deut 20:1 | TheCurtMan | 99696
Sorry Sis, I'm not seeing it that way. I'm not denying that this was for the Israelites. The question is, as I understand it to be, can the principles governing this verse be applied today. I believe they can. What? God never bought you up from Egypt? From the bondage of sin? From your old hard taskmaster before Christ? I believe the principles governing this verse can be applied today.
