1 | how much water allowed the ark to float? | Gen 1:1 | TCfromCoventry | 196472
Answers in Genesis (www.answersingenesis.org) is a very sound bible-based, scripturally correct ministry of scientists, headed by Ken Ham. Likewise, the Institute for Creation Research founded by Dr. Henry M. Morris. On both sites there are vast amounts of material related to this (and all other creation/ evolution/ world-view issues) with the scripture references throughout. My answer was a summary of what I understand is the most prevailing (but not only) answer to a thread that seemed to be getting a bit bogged down. No theory about the past is provable, either Big-Bang based theory or Bible-based theory. Creation science is an area of research which uses scientific principles and methodology to proclaim the truth of God's Word and develop robust arguments against the prevailing atheistic world-view so that we can be ready with an answer in season and out (2 Timothy 4:2). Then we can refute the last-day scoffers (2 Peter 3:3) so they are without excuse (Rom 1:20) . No-one except Jesus can know EXACTLY what happened during the flood, and if all the details were recorded in the bible, they would a) obscure the main points of the text (such as what God did and why He did it), and b) the Bible would be 100 times bigger than it is! Creation science assembles a valid theoretical 'world-view' based on scripture to counter the 'conventional' scientific world-view of big-bang/ ancient universe/ evolution. The principle is to align scientific theory with biblical truth (NOT to bend the latter to conform to science). There is so much material on these (and many other similar) sites - with so much scripture referred to - that there seems little point in trying to reproduce it here in a partial form. I strongly recommend visiting these and similar websites for comprehensive answers to questions like this. I also recommend keeping an eye open for any talks and meeting in your area about such topics. They are a great source of bible study. By the way, 'flatter' doesn't mean there were no mountains! Just not such big ones as we have today! According to Strong's Comprehensive Concordance the Hebrew word 'har' (Gen 7:19-20) is translated "hill, mountain, hill country, mount". The same word (har) is used of Ararat where the Ark ended up (and may well still be!). The peak of Ararat is 4800 m., as opposed to Everest at 8850 m. I hope you don't think I'm being lazy in not giving a direct answer to this response. You will find a browse around either of the above websites informative, fascinating and entertaining. So please don't think I take these discussions lightly. |

2 | Why give 10 percent in tithe after Jesus | Gen 14:20 | TCfromCoventry | 196458
You raise some good points Brad, and I didn't promise that my answer was comprehensive! Perhaps someone else can clarify them better than me, but I'll do what I can - I'm still learning too you know! 1) Tithing as a principle was not part of the Law because is was an established custom long before the Law was given to Moses. The principle of 1/10th was then incorporated into the Law in various ways. 2) This next bit - I've heard teachings about grace, faithfulness and Covenant etc. I can't recall all the relevant scriptures right now (I'm still not good at remembering chapter and verse references!) But YES, God is always faithful! There's an on-going principle in His dealings with us that because He loves us so much despite our faults and weaknesses, He deliberately LIMITS HIMSELF in His dealings with us. If it wasn't for love, how easily He could have wiped us out to try again! At the same time, Jesus paying the penalty for our sin doesn't mean that God as a loving father has stopped disciplining us (Deut 8:5) 1 Cor11:32 and a running theme through Hebrews 12 (where would I be without BibleGateway, com?!). Gen12:1-3; Abram could have said "No!" Gen 15:18 yes, unilateral, but 500 years later, the Hebrews still had to TAKE the land. They never completely did; that's part of the trouble today. God is faithful to keep the Covenant; if we break our end of the agreement, He will NOT manifest His promises! He holds His WORD above His NAME (Psalms I think?). Imagine a kid screaming for a toy. Dad says,"If you scream about that again, I'll NEVER get it for you!" So the kid screams again, and dad gives him the toy!! What kind of a spoilt brat will that kid become? I'm sometimes overawed at how patient and merciful God is to our selfishness and stupidity. Where would we be if God DIDN'T choose to limit Himself! 3)Gal.3 is all true of course, and Galatians 2 is all about not letting hypocritical reliance on the Law (such as circumcision) sabotage reliance on the Gospel of grace through faith. What I'm talking about is more general lifestyle issues. Part of the purpose of the Law (beyond the 10 commandments)is to paint a picture of how God wants us to live, NOT by forcing ourselves to obey the Law (legalism), but by HIM perfecting us (sometimes painfully!) through the operation of Holy Spirit, so that the "law" is written on our hearts of flesh (I think that combines about three references). Part of that picture is the Jewish customs and lifestyle preserved over millennia, such as feast days and holidays ordained by God Himself. I believe many of those customs reflect the lifestyle of Heaven, just as the tabernacle reflects God's throne-room in Heaven. So I've been asking myself a two part question: a) are there aspects of Jewish lifestyle that could better reflect and enhance my relationship with God, and b) are there parts of my lifestyle that I've adopted without questioning, that could be dropped, in order to enhance my relationship with God? Take just one (little) example. When Jesus was in the flesh 2000 years ago, what would those around him have called him? not Jesus, but Yashua! Refering to a) above, would it be better if we addressed him as Yashua in our prayers? Refering to b) above, why do we call him Jesus? That's a mis-pronunciation (should be Yei-zus) of a poor Latinization of Yashua, which comes from the Roman (heathen/pagan)Empire. Now, I know that I know who I mean when I say 'Jesus', and I'm sure HE knows who I mean - but wouldn't it be nicer to address Him properly? This is the tip of a very big iceberg, that questions, names, habits, holidays, all kinds of things. Why have we inherited a (modified) Roman calendar? Why do we honour Roman and pagan gods in our weekday names? When you start to look at it, our lifestyle seems a million lightyears away from God's plan for how we should operate! If you want to give yourself a 'seasonal' scare, investigate why we celebrate Christ's birth on Dec. 25th! WE are all one in Christ regardless of status or origin. But there are ways WE can choose to do things. I'm one of a growing number who wonder if dropping some things in our lifestyle and looking to the Jewish life style might make honouring God a more natural part of our lives. Revelation TV recently broadcast live a domestic Friday evening 'Shabbat' meal, prior to a Sabbath day of rest 'til Saturday evening. A beautiful, God-honouring lifestyle which reflected the fourth commandment. "Well, as my friend Maxine would say "I've gone off on one!!", so I'd better leave it there... "JESUS IS LORD - But don't take my word for it!" |

3 | How does one win grace? | Genesis | TCfromCoventry | 196187
Yes; if my response seemed a little harsh, it's because I take it very seriously, too, and living in a country where even most of the churches don't. I hope my latest answer put your mind at rest. I'm a pussy cat really, even if I do roar like a lion sometimes!

Good morning, Wild Olive Shoot! This is the day that the Lord has made; we shall rejoice, and be glad in it! Your answer brings joy and relief. My life is going through many changes just now, and nitpicking is the last thing I'm interested in either! Maybe you know that God's Word tells us not to as well? John6:43 and 1Tim6:4 are quite clear. By the way, while I know quite a lot of what's IN the Bible, I'm very shakey about where! The only reason I can quote the verses above are by checking it out on Biblegateway.com first! So have a wonderful day, rest assured I love you as a brother (sister? I had the cheek to address you as 'Olive' in a previous answer!). And if we don't meet in 'this lifetime' I look forward to meeting you 'in the next' - as they say! |

6 | How does one win grace? | Genesis | TCfromCoventry | 196114
I hope you don't want to play a game of "I can be more pedantic than you can!". We win is just an exuberant expression of the Victory that Jesus Christ won through His death and Resurrection, that we share (BECAUSE OF GRACE, that He wants to share it with us, not because we deserve it or earn it, He chose us), and as I said previously 'we' refers to Christ getting His bride, God getting His family and all of us living together in a new Creation with no evil or tears. That is put into a scenario of imagine you were reading a 'whodunit'. Normally the fun would be to read page by page until all is revealed on the last page. but if you can't bear the suspense, you can 'cheat' and look at the last page, which technically spoils the enjoyment of the rest of the book. The Bible isn't a 'whodunit', so it doesn't spoil anything to look at the last page; in fact, it's very encouraging (that's what the Book of Revelation is for, to show us that all the increasing mayhem we're having to live through is worth it in the end). It shows that God's plan WILL succeed, that there will be a glorious victorious ending - and WE are PART OF IT! Now I hope that settles it.
7 | Why did God put us on earth with satin? | Genesis | TCfromCoventry | 196067
Please see my other answer about Revelation 21 and 22. I think it may have been Dave Duell of Faith Ministries International. It's the sort of thing he'd say! Like my favourite quote: "Get out there and act like you know what you're doing!!" A great man of God, man of faith, a great preacher... and he makes you laugh til you think your ribs'll need divine healing!!
8 | Why did God put us on earth with satin? | Genesis | TCfromCoventry | 196066
The 'last page' is Revelation 21 and 22. New Heaven; new Earth; new Jerusalem! Free water from the well of life, our rightful inheritance...lit by the radiance of God... seeing Jesus the Son with God the Father face to face...reigning for ever... healing of the nations... kings bringing their treasure... gates of pearl... walls of diamond. Of course God wins, he get the family, the community, the BRIDE He desires; those of us who are in Christ ARE that Bride. I repeat WE WIN!!!

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The picture basically is that at Creation, God gave Adam authority over the whole world; when he sinned, he handed that authority to satan. So to those who are not born-again through faith in Jesus Christ, satan is still lord of this world (although they don't know it). Some say that the spiritual realm where they operate is the "second heaven": 2 Corinthians 12:2-4 (King James Version) 2I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. 3And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) 4How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. [it is generally thought that Paul is speaking about himself here. If 'paradise' is the third heaven, and the sky we can see is the first heaven, other spirits operate in the second heaven] There is a heirachy of power - powers, principalities, rulers of the darkness etc. Well, these powers (some say they are the angels which fell with satan from Heaven) are all under satan, and like him, their mission is to kill steal and destroy: John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. If you ARE born-again through faith in Jesus Christ, satan HATES that with a passion- you become a target. Jesus' death and resurrection brought them to NOTHING: Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. ... and even though they are defeated, they want to destroy what they can before their time is brought to an end. Doesn't this match up with experience? Jesus told us to expect it, but that in Him, we are the victors: John 16:33 (King James Version) 33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. 1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. ... or as a great preacher I know says "I've read the last page - AND WE WIN!!!" |

11 | Why did God put us on earth with satin? | Genesis | TCfromCoventry | 196024
Jesus is the Way through whom we are saved, whose blood has cleansed us from all sin, and whose resurrection proves His defeat of satan and all the principalities and powers. But even though those principalities and powers are under our feet, they're still trying to beat us up and deceive us. why else would we need to put on the full armour of God (Eph6,12-17)? I'm glad to have some angels on my side! God made them as messengers, servants and warriors. But there's probably another blog about that!! that OK with you? ;¬)
12 | Why did God put us on earth with satin? | Genesis | TCfromCoventry | 196021
That's OK! It's all good! And I like to recall that satan took 1/3 of the angels with him - that means 2/3 are still with God and US! They outnumber satans 2 to 1! Hallelujah!!
13 | Why did God put us on earth with satin? | Genesis | TCfromCoventry | 196017
Hi Val! I'm not sure where you see the anger in my response. I was just trying to say that There were many possible outcomes of the Garden of Eden situation, God was prepared for any of them. Shouldn't we bear in mind that God's ways are higher than our ways (Is 55:9)? That currently we see through a glass darkly (1Cor13:12)? We are talking about supernatural things here; even in Christ, we have no direct relationship with or control over the supernatural. By the way, I think the date of the original question is irrelevant!! It sparked off a fascinating discussion, still on-going! I love discussing God's Word, learning different understandings. I will watch my 'Anger' meter, though; my life has been through some bad situations the last 3 - 4 years, which I'm still getting over. I'm having to re-learn how to love and trust God, and believe that He has my best interests in His control. |

14 | WHAT IS THE "BREAD" THAT IS REFERENCE IN | Bible general Archive 4 | TCfromCoventry | 195992
OOOOOOOOPPPS! I've only just joined, I'm still getting used to the website!!! Now I've seen the whole thread, I agree with DocTrinsograce; it can surely refer to both! "Your will be done on Earth..." is very clear, pragmatic and concerning our everyday life, as impacted by the supernatural (..as it is in Heaven). Jesus quoted Isaiah "Man shall not live on bread A L O N E"; confirming that we need physical bread, "..but by every word.." - our spiritual food. I've heard that Matt.6:11 means "every legitimate thing we could need for our whole well-being". Nourished by the Fellowship and Word of God, yes; but in Western society, a car is now pretty much essential! (I'm not saying that's good or bad, it just IS). So if we have no car, it's legitimate to ask (Abba) Daddy for a car. He caused us to be born into this generation and society. I'll leave it there - I'm starting to ramble!!
15 | Who did Cain marry to have children? | Genesis | TCfromCoventry | 195983
Answers in Genesis (www.answersingenesis.org) explains it in terms of genetic mutation/degradation. Adam and Eve were created perfect, therefore had perfect genetic information in their DNA. From the Fall (which affected the whole of Creation) onwards, mutation (DNA degradation) started to set in, but for many generations, was so slight that brothers marrying sisters would not have caused genetic defects. By the time of Moses, genetic degradation had increased to a level that the law about close intermarraige had to be brought in. God is very practical isn't He?! By the way, this means that the Human Genome Project has mapped a genome with many generations of degradation in it!! What a waste of time! |
