1 | First resurrection happens twice | Rev 20:5 | Searcher56 | 239271
Good Lord's day to you Ed O, On your final comment ... "Now we can play around much with the meaning of words but I hardly believe that God wanted us to become Greek scholars. Sometimes it's better for us to be less intellectual and rely on common sense wouldn't you think so?" I am not a Greek (or Hebrew) scholar, but I do look up the English words in the original ... even if all the translations agree ... if I want to learn more. Both times the word in this verse, the Greek is tereo which is translated in the KJV : keep (57x), reserve (8x), observe (4x), watch (2x), preserve (2x), keeper (1x), hold fast (1x). Moreover ... just in this verse I read "you have kept the word" and "will keep you from" ... so even with that it is hard for me to think we will be taken out of the tribulation. On "rely on common sense" ... what is your basis? Even if you have studied the three views, it could be clouded by what someone else has said. My theology has changed in several areas ... sometimes when I hear something new or when I am meditating on the Word and I have a "wait a minute" prompting. Either way I investigate Scripture. When He comes relative to the tribulation is a minor point and should not divide us. The major point is that He is coming ... quickly ... in the next century or so. S |

2 | Preach the Word | 2 Tim 4:2 | Searcher56 | 239268
Greetings Doc, Why to "preachers" TALK about a portion of Scripture with no meat ... or just try to tickle the ears? Methinks some do for their own self and wanting a higher position in the denomination. They even do TOO MANY things outside the church. I am talking about my pastor. |

3 | what is the church's responsibilities t | Heb 10:25 | Searcher56 | 239259
Greetings Doc and justme, It is even worse in some Baptist churches, the number who attend Sunday night is less than the morning and midweek is even less. Sometimes Sunday School is less than the main service. Most people do no service ... even do not know their spiritual gift, some do not care, S |

4 | Who is the Bride of the Lamb? | Rev 19:9 | Searcher56 | 239258
Doc In 2 Corinthians 11:2 is Paul himself being joined (harmozo) to the Corinthian church, not about being about to be married. It is not about Christ being betrothed (joined) to the church. . In Ephesians 5, I already pointed out that is a problem. The woman is under the head of her father and being subject to him during the betrothal period. The verbs here are in the present tense and in Revelation are in the future. In Ephesians 5 it is to show the comparison of the role of the husband-wife and Christ-church … but not about His being married or betrothed to the church. That is carrying the metaphor too far. Another metaphor is John says that the bride of the Lamb is New Jerusalem (Rev 21:2). I now believe we believers of all time are the invited guests and I will let God tell us who the bride is. S |

5 | First resurrection happens twice | Rev 20:5 | Searcher56 | 239255
EdB, I am using Steve Gregg's book. Before I started I looked at the choices I had and thought his was the best. He is very fair, because he just presents the views without much or any commentary. I have also secured resources for each view, to see if I can add anything. When I present views, I research secular sources to see if what is said is true. I present the views with my research ... then we discuss what the text says im an inductive method. S |

6 | Who is the Bride of the Lamb? | Rev 19:9 | Searcher56 | 239254
Doc, I understand the use and misuse of metaphors. That was not my point. I have been taught the metaphor of the "bride of the Lamb", is the church. In my current study, it didn't make sense. I looked at all Scripture to see what it says. What that who do you believe the metaphor "bride of the Lamb" is ... and why? S |

7 | First resurrection happens twice | Rev 20:5 | Searcher56 | 239246
Greetings in our Lord, Beja and Ed O, I am teaching the book of Revelation in Sunday School. I am presenting all views: Tribulation: Pre Mid Post and others Millennium: Premillennial, Postmillennial, Amillennial Timing: Preterist, Historicist, Futurist and Spiritualist I usually don't give my side. On this matter is the rapture concurrent with the resurrection? If not which happens first? Jesus was resurrected first, then went to heaven. Here we have a select group of saints being resurrected ... and have not gone to heaven. Searcher |

16 | Contradictions in Bible Study | 2 Tim 3:16 | Searcher56 | 232524
EdB, One of the issues is interpetation. All sides may be on solid ground ... or not. We all can be misinterpreting, even theologians. Sometimes because there is lack of study. The commonly accepted teaching can be wrong. It may be because people accept tradition or let it influence their view. There are texts it is wise to say "I don't know" ... even if one is a theologian/ expert. As I am preparing to teach Revelation, I see all this. We are at Rev 2:18 on Sunday, after 16-17 lessons. I always prefer to chew on Scripture without looking at what others say. Searcher |

20 | Holy Spirit prior to Pentecost?? | Heb 7:17 | Searcher56 | 231620
God's day to you, Doc, A minor isssue. The Bible say "The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha" (2Ki 2:15) ... it doesn't say "The Spirit of the Lord/God". Having a "double portion" (vs 9) of the Holy Spirit doesn't make sense to me. One either has the Holy Spirit or not. Nonetheless, I think they had the Holy Spirit All prophets (Neh 9:30; Zec 7:12; Act 3:18; 2Pe 1:19-21). A couple of more the Bible specifies Micah (Mic 3:8) Zechariah (Zec 4:6) Searcher |
