Tim, I believe that this is an issue that needs to be addressed in the Church today. All too often we hear that we are just no-good-miserable-sinners just scraping by on God's grace. What did Paul say? "How shall we who are DEAD TO SIN continue to live any longer there in?" And again he asked "Shall we CONTINE IN SIN THAT GRACE MAY ABOUND? GOD FORBID!" God has set us "free from the law of sin and death so that the law of the Spirit of Life might be made manifest in our mortal flesh." Are we teaching sinless perfection? Absolutely not- that is unscriptural. We need to see that God has restored us to the position of Adam and given back our choice of whether or not we will submit to him and obey, or rebel against him and sin. Plain and simple. All to often we belittle the cross of Christ we discredit the work that he did for us. When God took the children of Israel out of Egypt it wasn't just to take them out! He took them out of bondage in order to put them into the freedom that he had called them to. In the same way, Romand 7, the first part of the chapter states that if a woman's husband dies, then she is free to marry another. Well, Paul uses that analogy to show that we have DIED TO OUR OLD MAN (SIN) and are now free to marry another (RIGHTEOUSNESS). Thank you for your boldness in posting this truth- it often is not popular with those who have gotten comfortable in a sin-confess, sin-confess, sin-confess lifestyle. Blessings, Saintopher |
