1 | How do you then interpret the verses... | Luke 8:13 | S.W | 152731 | ||
Kalos wrote: "This is also why the Bible repeatedly stresses that salvation is wholly God's work" Rosponse: Is it really? Your statement does'nt convince me of being biblical, nor rational. If your statement would be true, should'nt everyone have been saved by now because it is both the will of God to save everyone and he is able to do all that he wants? Joh 1:12: "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—" Those that received and trusted in Jesus were (freely) given the right to be sons of God. Those who rejected him wasn't given same the right. May the power of the grace and peace of Jesus be with you all and keep you spotless until he returns. |

userdoe220: I'm sorry to say that I really can't recall the voice and attitude of Jesus, nor the new testament teachers, in the OSAS professer's claims. Where can you find the same attitude as in the following verses in their claims? Lk 3:8 "Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, "We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones." Or if it would have been written in our times: Lk 3:8 (Paraphrase) "Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, "We have 'truly been born again'.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones." Acts 24:16: "This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men." Should'nt we all have the same striving? Phil 1:9-11: And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Should we or should we not "be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ"? 1 Thess 5:23: "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." Is Paul just boxing in the air or is he serious? Should we or should we not be "preserved blameless"? May the power of grace be with you in holiness in Jesus name! |

CONCERNING LOOSING ONE'S SALVATION - PART IV In the lord's prayer (Mt 6:9-15) we are taught to forgive all who offend us and ask for forgiveness if we have sinned. Some believe that it doesn't matter if a christian live in sin or not, but it does, as stated in the following passages: 1 Co 6:9-11 "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." Comments: It may cause eternal damnation, i.e. those who continue in the above mentioned sins will not "inherit the kingdom of God" (since Paul is teaching believers about sin in this passage). Mt 18:15-17 sais that we should help one another to repent from sin, without gossiping, and according to Gal 6:1 we should... "restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted." There are many other New Testament scriptures which warns believers from allowing sin to continue in our lives. If you still have doubts I recommend you to read Hebrews for example verses like: 4:11 "Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience." Heb 10:26 "For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries." Heb 12:4 "You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin." Heb 12:25 "See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven," Heb 12:14 "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:" SALVATION BY (THE POWER OF) GRACE Salvation comes certainly not by our works, but by His (Jesus) deeds. Nevertheless, by searching through the whole gospel (by which a few verses as stated above has been extracted) it is obvious that salvation is not unconditional. Before forgiveness comes repentence, and without sanctification (repentence from sin) no one will see the Lord. Nevertheless, the only way to overcome sin is by using your mouth and confessing it to God, as the prodigal son did and as in 1 Jn 1:9. I ask you with all of my heart, do not deny the power of godliness which may give you a truly repentent heart and may keep you in holyness in Jesus name. 2 Ti 3:1-5 "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5having A FORM OF GODLINESS BUT DENYING ITS POWER. And from such people turn away!" Comments: If Paul and Timothy was taught to turn away from people with such behaviour, God would also. There is power in the blood of the Lamb to cleanse hearts! MY THANKS GOES TO Thomas Nelson, Inc. for providing the New King James Version (used in the bible quotes) and www.biblegateway.com May the power of the grace and peace of Jesus Christ be with you all, AMEN! |

CONCERNING LOOSING ONE'S SALVATION - PART III In Acts 5:1-11 Ananias and Sapphira lies to the holy Spirit and they both are judged immediately. Comments: If christians freely may continue to live in sins, why did Ananias and Sapphira die? Who do you think killed them? Who allowed them to "be killed"? In Re 2:18-26 Jesus sais to the Church in Thyatira and a woman commiting sexual immorality that he has given her time (note) to repent, but that she has refused. Jesus warns the Church and the woman that he will make her sick and those who sin with her will have great tribulation, and furthermore that Jesus will kill (!) her children. Jesus never allows christians to continue in sin, and those who does will eventually reap what they sow if they don't repent. In Re 3:4 Jesus sais to the Church (note) in Sardes that there are only a few of them that has'nt spotted their clothes (which is a picture of their repentence from sin.) Compare with Re 7:14 "And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. " Re 16:15 "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame." Gal 3:1 "O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? 2 This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have you suffered so many things in vain--if indeed it was in vain?" Comments: How could they have "suffered so many things in vain", if they never could loose their salvation? Paul was most certainly aware that they could. Rm 6:1: "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?" Comments: The plain answer to the question if we are allowed to continue in sin is: "Certainly not" In verse 15 Paul sais the same question again and explains what happens if we do: Rm 6:15 "What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? Comments: Plainly the scriptures declares that if you live in sin, although you call yourself a christian, you will no longer belong to Jesus, but you will belong to sin! You will be a slave to sin and not to righteousness. I am very sad to say, that those who don't repent from their sins will lose their fellowship with Jesus. This is what Jesus teaches and what his elected teachers taught in the whole gospel. Compare with John 8:31-36 where Jesus sais that we shall no longer be the slaves of sin and instead be delivered by Jesus and the truth, a deliverance and freedom which Jesus offers to all who receives in faith. In John 8:36 Jesus promises freedom to everyone who comes to him with their heart's belief in his name and who confesses their sin, a descision of repentence which I will describe. IN THE OLD COVENANT when someone had sinned they sometimes had to take a spotless lamb (or a substitute) and bring it to the priest. Then the priest would examine the lamb and if it as perfect, the person who had sinned would lay their hands on the lamb's head and confess the sin. Then the lamb would be killed and the person would be forgiven. This is also a picture of the new covenant in the blood of Jesus. When we sin 1 Jn 1:9 sais: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." This practise is the result of the perfect sacrifice of Jesus, who is the true spotless lamb of God, and when we walk in the truth, which is turn away from those things we know belongs to darkness (sin) and confess our sins when we fall, then... "we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." Note that this verse does'nt say that we never sin when we walk in the light, but the gospel surely teaches us to turn away from sin and confess it, in order to be cleansed. Jesus is able to help us all through prayer! Remember that despite the fact that you might be full of sins, the "priest" (God) is'nt considering your personal appearance or condition, but the perfect state of the lamb (Jesus) and the blood of his Son, and upon your confession you are forgiven and cleansed. CONCERNING LOOSING ONE'S SALVATION - PART II Mt 7:13-14 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." Comments: If it was okay to live in sin as a "christian", supposing that you'd go to heaven, then this statement by Jesus would be a lie. Allowing sin in your life obviously is'nt walking on the narrow road. Mt 7:21-23 "Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23 And then I will declare to them, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' Comment: I'd prefer to avoid being in their shoes too, since on His day Jesus will not be merciful any longer. You might get away with your hidden sins today, but then his light will shine on both us (the church) and those who are outside. May we repent from all sins today, amen! (I interpret "he who does the will of My Father" as being those who repent from sin, and don't continue in "lawlessness" (evident deeds of the flesh as in Gal 5:19). If you'd interpret it any other way, you might be caught in the herresy of "salvation by works" (see ”Salvation by Grace” part III). Mt 10:28 "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Comments: Here, Jesus is teaching his disciples before sending them out to minister. Why should we fear him if we can't be cast into hell? Mt 13:40-42 "Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth." Comments: Another translation of "all things that offend" is "all those who causes others to fall" (Folkbibeln). Compare with Mt 7:21-23 and comments above. Mt 15:18-20 "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man." Comments: Jesus plainly sais that evil thoughts, murders etc really defile a person. Mt 18:7-9 "Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! 8 "If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire. " Comments: Is your attitude towards sin the same as Jesus'? My time is not enough to show you all Jesus' statements concerning the consequenses of sin in a disciples life. I will briefly show you a few more, both from Jesus himself and from those who continued his teaching in the New Testament. Lk 24:46-47 "Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." Comments: There is no gospel without repentence, and if repentence comes before remission of sins, what happens if you abandon your repentence? CONCERNING LOOSING ONE'S SALVATION - PART I DEAR JANAE and all those who are interested to understand this sensitive question. First, I would like to thank Janae for an openness towards different views on the subject. I also ask each of you who read this message to really listen with your heart and please lay aside all prejudice. The points given in this message has been tested and tried through many difficult circumstances and proven to be the only way of christian living which brings true peace and experience of God in joy of the holy Spirit. BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION Relating to the previous postings I would like to remind you of the importance of considering, as much as is possible, the whole truth when trying to attain a firm belief. Remember that when Jesus himself was tempted by Satan during his 40 days of fasting, the Devil used Scripture as a tool for deceit (Mt 4:6-7). The Serpent used the same technique against Eve in the Garden of Eden when lying about God when he, as well, was claiming to know (about) God (Gen 3:4-5). Obviously it is not adequate to support a principle or claim by a few verses of Scripture. When considering such important topics as this one, it is critical to examine each view with the rest of the Gospel. I am sorry to say that unbiblical teachings and practices always goes hand in hand with a neglection of this basic principle of interpretation. Meanwhile, believers are deceived when they fail to gain a broad understanding of biblical principles and instead listens to "fast-food" teachings. In such a intellectual climate some preachers say what their audience likes to hear and like corrupted lawyers they search for "holes" in the bible where they find statements which can be used to support their own ideas. IS IT POSSIBLE TO LOOSE ONE’S SALVATION? THE PRODIGAL SON (Lk 15:11-32) Initially both sons was at home with the Father (v.11-12). Then, after receiving their goods the younger son left home (v.13). When the son was wasting his things and living riotous, the bible sais plainly that he, in such a state, was (spiritually) "dead" and "lost" (v.32). When he finally came home he was "found" and "alive" (v.24). I assume that we all can agree that this parable primarily is about the Father's heart and salvation. Now, it is obvious that the sons state of being away from home is a picture of mankind's condition under sin, right? Since this is a parable concerning spiritual principles and not about someone leaving a church or moving somewhere, a very important question is: What caused the son to become "dead" and "lost"? and what made the son become "alive" and "found"? The difference between these two conditions in this parable is that the son lived in sin (v.18) and then he repented (changed his mindset and returned home) and confessed his sin (v.21). Note that the Father showed his love even before the son had arrived and confessed, which is a picture of the Father's love towards the person and does'nt depict his attitude towards sin. Although the Father loved his son all the time, the son was surely "dead" and "lost" in the Father's eyes until he repented. It is important to make a distinction between the Father's love and the state in which one lives. To conclude and give you my point in this, first, if it was sin that caused the son to die and be lost, how many times do you think the son could "run away"? Secondly, how many times do you think the Father would run to the son ready to hug him and receive him with total forgiveness? Thirdly, could you imagine that the Father would bind his son to his home with some kind of chain in order to prevent him from running away again? IF IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO LOOSE ONE'S SALVATION, WHY DOES THE WORD OF GOD SAY THE FOLLOWING TO MEMBERS OF THE NEW COVENANT? Mt 5:29 "If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell." Comments: Sin always has consequenses. Anyone who believed and listened to Jesus saying this statement would be terrified of sinning again. Mt 6:15 "But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Comments: I'd rather not be in those shoes. If you deny this statement you call Jesus a liar, since he's talking to his disciples who previously asked him to teach them about prayer.
