1 | CAN A CHRISTIAN FALL FROM GRACE? | Bible general Archive 1 | Phillip | 10477
Nolan, I agree with you but I dislike the term "lose their salvation". You cannot "lose" something that you reject. I prefer the term "reject their salvation" or "fall from grace". Here are some related scriptures. Gal 5:1-4 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. 2 Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3 And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. 4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. NASU Heb 6:4-6 4 For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. NASU Heb 10:35-39 35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. 37 FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY. 38 BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM. 39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul. NASU 2 Peter 3:17-18 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. NASU These verses and many others make it very difficult to be dogmatic against the possibility of falling from grace. What we must do is reconcile these verses with the promise of God for salvation. The following are examples. 2 Cor 1:21-22 21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, 22 who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge. NASU Eph 1:13-14 13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation -- having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory. NASU The question lies with whether you believe man receives Christ by his free will. If so, then he may also reject Christ by his free will. Free will is not taken away after salvation. Eph 4:30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. NASU In Christ, Phillip 2 Tim 2:19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are His," NASU |

2 | Why will we know each other? | Bible general Archive 1 | Phillip | 10350
Glory777, I see your reasoning and would like to offer a few comments. It is true that Jesus was recognized by many after His resurrection, but He was also unrecognizable by others on the road to Emmaus (Lk 24:13-16). Either way the fact remains that those who saw Jesus were in a natural state, not supernatural as we will all be in heaven. Men's eyes may be opened by God to the spiritual (2 Kgs 6:15-17) but our natural state is blind to the spiritual world. Therefore to say that natural man being able to see a resurrected Christ on earth is the same as a spiritual resurrected person being able to recognize another spiritual person in heaven is a questionable conclusion. If we were to recognize one another, we would have retained our earthly memory to some degree? Would these memories be only of loved ones and happy times or would they also include those whom we did not love and memories that are regretful? The Bible states in Rev 21:3-4 [3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away." NASU] The first things have passed away and God has made a new heaven and a new earth with no more sadness which leads one to think there will be no remembrance of our sinful past. Our relationship will be with the Father and the Son as in Rev 22:1,3-5 [1 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; 4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. 5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever. NASU]. We will not have the relationship of Gen 2:24 [For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. NASU]. Regarding heavenly relationships Jesus says in Matt 22:30 [30 "For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. NASU]. We will be the bride of Christ! Bless the Lord, Phillip |

3 | What does 1 Tim 3:2 mean? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Phillip | 7323
Steve, After reading your response, I agree with your conclusion concerning the word "unchastity". However, I am concerned about whether unchastity is a good translation of the greek word "porneia" because of the following Strongs definition. NT:4202 "porneia" (por-ni'-ah); from NT:4203; harlotry (including adultery and incest); figuratively, idolatry: KJV - fornication. (Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright (c) 1994, Biblesoft and International Bible Translators, Inc.) and the Thayers Greek Lexicon definition; NT:4202 "porneia, porneias, hee" fornication a. used properly, of illicit sexual intercourse Acts 15:20,29; 21:25 b. Used in accordance with a form of speech common in the O.T. and among the Jews which represents the close relationship existing between Jehovah and his people under the figure of a marriage (from Thayer's Greek Lexicon, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 2000 by Biblesoft) I do not know why the NASU uses the word unchastity because the same greek word is translated immorality in Matt 19:9. The KJV uses the word fornication (sexual intercourse between a man and a woman not married to each other; Webster's) every time it translates 4202 porneia in the NT. The NKJV uses sexual immorality in both verses and the NIV simplifies it to marital unfaithfulness. All this evidence points to more than just a lack of virginity at the time of the marriage. Your second point is based on what Moses said, not on what Jesus said in Matt 19:7-9 [7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY?" 8 He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. 9 "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."] NASU Moses permitted divorce in Deut 24:1 ["When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out from his house,] NASU This law from Moses was given because of the hardness of men's hearts and was interpreted to allow a man to divorce his wife for almost any reason. Jesus is nullifying this liberal view of divorce but for one exception, sexual immorality, which now brings about the opposite effect, an extremely limited reason for divorce. So backing up a verse actually supports the view that Jesus allows divorce for only one reason, the same reason that God divorced Himself from Israel in Jer 3:8 ["And I saw that for all the adulteries of faithless Israel, I had sent her away and given her a writ of divorce, yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear; but she went and was a harlot also.] NASU Jesus is declaring marriage to be sacred and He offers the same reason for divorce as God used with Israel. May we always be faithful, Phillip |

4 | What does 1 Tim 3:2 mean? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Phillip | 6914
Steve, In your answer I'm sure you meant to include the case of an unbelieving husband who divorces his believing wife. Let me refer you to another reason for divorce given by Jesus in Matt 5:32 [but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.] NASU. Jesus also states in Matt 19:9 ["And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."] NASU. Would you agree that a second reason is given by Jesus wherby divorce is permitted? In these verses Jesus allows the spouse who has been betrayed by adultry to be released from the marriage but He does not say they must leave. Sounds a lot like the relationship between God and Israel doesn't it? I am sorry that we have strayed from the original question but it is all connected as we discuss the subject. May the Lord Bless You, Phillip |

5 | Please help me to find this out for this | Luke 1:27 | Phillip | 5218
Shadow, I might add a few more verses to strengthen your answer to your friend. They are Matt 13:55,John 2:12,John 7:3-10,Acts 1:14,1 Cor 9:5 and Gal 1:19. I hope you can get your friend to seek the truth of these scriptures and begin to question the traditions of the Catholic Church. You are up against a powerful religion of man which cannot be overcome by the reason of man, but only by the spirit of truth. Remember to let the Holy Spirit do the convicting and be willing as God draws them to Himself. May the Lord Bless Your Efforts, Phillip |

6 | Scripture is clear if we are open, right | Acts 11:1 | Phillip | 4813
Ray, I think you may be a bit quick to assume from the scripture which Sharp quoted "that we must speak in tongues to prove that we have received the Holy Spirit". The focus here is upon HOW Peter and all the circumcised believers KNEW that Cornelius and his close friends and relatives (Acts 10:24) had received the Holy Spirit. Verses 45 and 46 clearly state how, [45 All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God.] NASU. God used signs and wonders to begin His church (Acts 2:43, 4:29-30,5:12, 6:8, 14:3, Rom 15:18-19 and Heb 2:4) first with the Jews Acts 2:1-4, and then with the Gentiles starting with Cornelius, (see Rom 1:16) . This was promised by Jesus in Mark 16:17, ["These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;] NASU However, this was not to be the case for all believers as Paul relates in 1 Cor 12:30 [All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they?] NASU. Furthermore, Perter stated in Acts 2:38, ["Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.] He did not include speaking in tongues OR that tongues that appear as fire must fall upon those receiving salvation even though that very thing had just happened to him and his fellow believers that very day! Some may contend that the gift of the Holy Spirit which Peter refers to means the sign of tongues but that seems to be disputed by Paul's statement above and the gift of the Holy Spirit is not limited to tongues. The term "gift of" for both phenomena seems to separate them as all other gifts are separated, and no other gift is expected to be immediately evident for salvation. Every believer receives the "gift of" the Holy Spirit to be sealed and to be enabled for ministry by receiving gifts of the Spirit, [1 Cor 12:4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. and 1 Cor 12:8-10, 8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.] NASU. So although God chose to show evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit in the early church by pouring out the gift of tongues upon salvation, He did not continue the sign to all believers. As for being baptised in the name of Jesus, Peter is clearly stating that requirement. Paul finds a group of followers in Acts 19 who were in need of this very thing, [Acts 19:1-6, 1 ... Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. 2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3 And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism." 4 Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.] NASU. These believers help to explain that water baptism does not save as they were baptized into John, [Matt 3:11 "As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.] NASU. John told the people to "believe in Him who was coming after him" which is what places us into the baptism of Jesus. It is by belief (trust) in Jesus that we are baptised into Jesus name, [Rom 10:9-10, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.] NASU. By the way, these believers also prophesied but no one claims that prophesy must be an evidence of salvation. If I have helped at all, to God be the Glory, Phillip |

8 | Holy Ghost Baptism subsequent to salvati | 1 Cor 12:13 | Phillip | 4636
That is what Nicodemus asks, (John 3:4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?") Jesus then explains that a person must be born again (NASB or "from above") spiritually. All people must be born of water in a physical birth which enters them into God's physical creation, then they must be born of the Spirit to enter into God's spiritual kingdom. Jesus is not instructing Nicodemus to be born again of water but to be born again in a new way, of the Spirit. I must say your question reminds me of some mental health practitioners that advise their patients to go back to the womb for some sort of re-birth experience. In a recent tragic example of this a young girl died from suffocation in a blanket while "going back to the womb", as she cried for help but was refused by the doctor and her parent. The only answer for man's ills (sin) is to be born from above by way of inviting the Holy Spirit into one's heart, (Rom 10:9-10, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation). If a person is not born from above, then they are practicing a religion of their own design because it is not of the Spirit of God. We cannot be reborn physically but we must be reborn spiritually if we wish to be reconciled to God. Man was cut off from God spiritually after the fall but through acceptance of Christ's atoning work on the cross, man can be reunited spiritually with God forevermore. Praise be to God our Saviour, Phillip |

9 | How old is the earth scripturally? | Gen 1:1 | Phillip | 4548
Hi Daninjapan, It seems we are back to the central basis for some different interpretation of and reasoning from scripture, the question of whether God did what He said He did, create the heavens and the earth in six days. If we believe He did everything else that He said He did in Genesis, then accepting a six day creation and the following length of lifespans would give us the age of the earth less the time Adam was living the "good" life in Eden for which the Bible does not say. If God misled us in His creation account, then who is to say He does not mislead us in other areas of His word (Rom 3:4 May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar...). Dan, please consider taking God for His word and not relying upon old earth creationists or gap theory proponents to guide your understanding (1 Cor 3:18-20, 18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"; 20 and again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS."). The God of creation loves you very much and I have grown in brotherly love for you also. If I am in error, may the Holy Spirit convict with the word of God, and I hope you feel the same. Your Brother in Christ, Phillip . |

10 | How old is the earth scripturally? | Gen 1:1 | Phillip | 4546
Daninjapan, My Learned Friend, I apologize for my over zealousness in linking old age creationism to evolutionary thought. Obviously you have researched this matter more than I. I will try to refrain from comments that I have little knowledge about which I'm afraid will severely limit my input to any topic. I will however continue to risk being wrong with regard to scripture with the hope of that not happening or that I may learn from my errors, both to God's glory. May I ask if it would be correct to assume that old age creationists believe all of the rest of God's word except that He made the heavens and the earth in 6 days? In my ignorance, I do have difficulty in believing that scientists of astronomy (big bang) and geology (rock and strata formations taking millions of years to form) are independent of evolutionary theories. I have not timed it myself but I do not argue that light from some stars takes millions of light years to reach earth. However I believe God is capable of creating a universe of immeasureable dimensions and having it in complete working order at the instant of creation with starlight from the farthest stars reaching earth in the same instant. Just as I believe He made Adam a complete and perfect, fully functional adult at the instant of his formation from dust. I appreciate your investigating Dr Baugh's website and I am sorry there is not the detailed observations there as are in his books and videos. Unfortunately, I cannot begin to do his work justice and we will leave it at that. I took your advice and viewed the link to Dr Ross's website about the book "starlight and time" but it is far above me both intellectually and physically. You showed your resourcefulness again by pointing out that many species (kinds) have become extinct. I do not have the ability to do as you suggested to compute the total kinds of animals God made at creation, just the faith to believe He did what He said. May I say that your last point has always intrigued me about creation, as to what God actually did when He created light on day one and then light giving celestial bodies on day 4. I must say I find your theory to be somewhat swayed by evolution (atmospheric clearing) but I do not have a theological response that I can back up with scripture at this time. I have enjoyed our discussion but we seem to be equally entrenched in our different views on this subject and I don't believe we will change each other's mind but hopefully we have served to deepen our dependence upon God and His magnificence. I am sincerely thankful that our God's ways are "so far above our ways" yet He loves us enough to send His son to die for us that we may be restored to Him and someday reside with Him in His glorious heaven. Amen? May the Lord Richly Bless You, Phillip |

11 | Holy Ghost Baptism subsequent to salvati | 1 Cor 12:13 | Phillip | 4462
Jim, Jesus was not speaking of water baptism in Jn 3:5 (Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God). See the very next verse to see what He was intending for Nicodemus to understand. John 3:6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. When Christ said we must be born of water, He was referring to physical birth. We are from "dust of the ground" (Gen 2:7) which comes from water (2 Peter 3:5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water)and that most of a human body is made up of water. Jesus had first spoken of spiritual birth (Jn 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God"). of which Nicodemus took to mean being born twice physically (Jn 3:4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?"). Then Jesus clarifies that you must be born physically and then spiritually to enter the kingdom of heaven (Jn 3:5-6). Praise God, Phillip |

12 | How old is the earth scripturally? | Gen 1:1 | Phillip | 4461
Creation Continued - As for God resting on the seventh day, is it unreasonable to say that God literally created the heavens and the earth in six 24 hour increments, even though He is outside of space and time, and that He could also rest from creating for a literal 24 hour period? As you said, God could have created the heavens and the earth in 6 minutes if He wanted to, but He did it in six 24 hour days and rested on the seventh for a reason. He was giving Israel an example to follow just as Christ has given us an example to follow. God gave Israel the law and used His creation to lead them into following it as Ex 20:9-11 shows, (9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy). Jesus gives us the example of how to live our lives every day of the week including the Sabbath, (Matt 12:12 ...So then, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath) You are very observant in noting the difficulty of Adam naming all of the animals in one day. I am not learned in the science of species but I am aware that there are myriad more kinds of dogs then there were in the beginning because of cross breeding. The same is true of other animals and plants as well. I have no idea how many different kinds of cattle and beasts of the field there were in the beginning, but I accept God's word and believe that there were not too many for Adam to name especially since God brought them to him (2:19). Another fascinating aspect of this is much better explained by Dr Carl Baugh. He speaks about the mental and physical capacity of Adam before the fall as compared to man today who is suffering from the effects of degenerating sin. The comparison is of a perfectly created man made in the image of God versus a fallen man. I have no response for you about God's usage of evening and morning but I thank you for pointing it out to me so I may seek to understand it. I will offer you an interesting question as to God's design plan that you may not have noticed before. God created vegetation and trees on the third day and then created the sun on the fourth day. Now I would have done it differently. I don't know why He did it that way except maybe to disprove those who believe that God took 6 thousand years instead of 6 days for creation. That would mean that vegetation and trees would have had to survive for one thousand years before sunlight was created. Glory to the Lord Almighty, Phillip |

13 | How old is the earth scripturally? | Gen 1:1 | Phillip | 4460
My New Friend, Daninjapan, I appreciate your spirit of reasoning from the scriptures and I hope through this discussion that we both discover God's gracious truth about His creation through His Word. You have succeeded in relating your thoughts very well and I hope that I may do the same. May God's Holy Spirit lead us into all truth. May I begin by addressing the term evolution as I believe it pertains to our discussion. I would venture to say that those who follow an "old earth creation" as you describe were nonexistent before the evolutionary theories began to emerge in past centuries. Evolutionary thought has had a devastating affect upon believers up to the present day. You may not believe in evolution in it's full implications but the old earth creation view is a stepchild of it's theory of large units of time needed for change and development. You use the terminology "the bulk of the evidence" for which am I wrong to believe is scientific evidence (which changes continually, unlike God) which has been gathered from an evolutionary biased view? I assert that the bulk of the biblical evidence denies the claim of millions of years for creation. I appreciate your support of Dr Hugh Ross and I do not doubt his or your sincerity, but I fear that you may be trying to make scripture fit your belief rather than letting your belief be molded by scripture. May I suggest that you visit the web site of Dr Carl Baugh, a former evolutionist, who discovers the scientific truth of creation without violating the integrity of the Hebrew or Greek text. This allows science to be a servant of the Word of God instead of it's master. www.creationevidence.org You have brought up several thought provoking thoughts pertaining to the Genesis account and I would like to comment on them as well as add a few of my own. Before sin, God called His creation good (1:4,10,12,18,21,25) and in Gen 1:31 it was very good. I do not believe that God would call creation good if it was marred by death of any kind (spiritual, physical, human, animal or plant). Although God gave the plant life for food, (1:30) they did not die. Plants that die from consumption were not yet created (2:5, ...plant of the field). After sin, God cursed the creation (3:14-19) which resulted in physical death (1:19). If physical death was introduced by the curse, then there was no physical death previously. As you stated, Adam and Eve died spiritually when they disobeyed God (ate the fruit) and their physical death was a secondary result. However, God was not literally speaking of spiritual death in 2:17, (for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die) but rather physical death. The word translated die is the Hebrew word taamuwt, which means "to die, to kill, to have one executed, to die (as a penalty), to be put to death, to die prematurely by the neglect of wise moral conduct (from The Online Bible Thayer's Greek Lexicon and Brown Driver, Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, Copyright (c)1993). The verse is denoting the penalty of disobedience, not in an immediate sense of that very day but as an inevitable result or consequence of sin. The spiritual death is made known by God's rejection of Adam and Eve by driving them out (3:24) from the Garden of Eden, thereby separating man from God until Christ reunites us by His atonement if we believe. Therefore they died spiritually first and physically later as the natural result of spiritual death is physical death. It may be noted that the first instance of death and sacrifice was after the fall when God clothed Adam and Eve with animal skins (3:21). I must continue this in another note. I will label it "creation continued". Phillip |

14 | How old is the earth scripturally? | Gen 1:1 | Phillip | 4312
There is an important difficulty regarding the Gospel as to the assumption of an Earth of millions or billions of years old. The Bible is clear that death did not enter into the world until after sin. Rom 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned -- In the case of an old Earth, there could have been no death for m's or b's of years while the Earth was being formed. That would mean that the theory of evolution and the Bible cannot both be true as evolution contends that there has been death for m's and b's of years. That would also mean that God did not create Heaven and Earth in 6 days as He said He did. Ex 31:17 "It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed." I am not prepared to call God a liar. Heb 6:18...in which it is impossible for God to lie, The only possibility for a different assumption would be that Adam lived in the Garden of Eden for m's or b's of years before the fall. My question to that is why would God take m's and b's of years for the Earth to evolve and only one day to create all of the solar system or all of the fish or animals? Since the Bible says that Adam brought sin and death into the world after the seventh day of creation, there could not have been death before that. Jesus died for the sins of the world from Adam on and not before. If you change the account of Genesis to fit man's account of creation, you will also have to change the Gospel. May His Name be Blessed Forevermore, Phillip |

15 | Who wet Jesus feet with her tears? | Luke 7:44 | Phillip | 4305
Prayon, I agree with you on the points you make about the differences between the Luke vs. Matt,Mk and Jn accounts. I also believe it is impossible to determine who the woman is. The best one can do is make an assumption based on the evidence that he considers to be the best possibility. Some believe that it was Mary Magdalene who is first introduced in Lk 8:2 inmmediately after the account in ch 7. She could have been cleansed of the demons by Jesus sometime before and then showed her appreciation and affection to Jesus at Simon's house. Jesus forgave her sin for loving much because she was forgiven much...seven demons worth. Mary of Bethany was probably showing her gratitude for the miricle of Lazarus being raized from the dead. Aware of what Mary Magdalene had done earlier, she may have chosen the same form of showing her love by annointing Christ's head (Mt,Mk) AND feet (Jn)...His whole body, symbolically preparing Jesus for burial. We are not told of a sinful past in either woman's life but Mary Magdalene would have been considered a "sinner" by the Pharisees because of her demon possession. The one main link to each Gospel is the vial of alabaster perfume, used to annoint Christ's head in Mt and Mk and His feet in Lk and Jn. Lk and Jn also say that she wiped His feet with her hair. God must have a good reason to reveal Mary of Bethany to us but not the identity of the woman in Luke. He has a different point to make in Luke and did not want the focus to be drawn away to the woman. May God be with you, Phil |
