1 | Was Jehoiachin 8 or 18 as king? | 2 Kin 24:8 | PJC | 182918
Dear Friend in Christ: I am not "picking" on portions of the Bible. I teach Bible study and a student came up and showed me these two verses in the Bible. I searched many other versions and some have 18 years in both places. I would pray that someone else will have a better answer than "copyist error." |

2 | Jacob/Israel Name interchanged in Gen. | Gen 32:28 | PJC | 156819
Thank you Makarios for the information but I do know all those things. My question is why do the scriptures use Jacob/Israel interchangeably? It cannot be to identify him for the reader as the names change occurs even within sentences. I looked up all scriptures where this occurs in the Hebrew text and it also changes the names for some reason. Everything in the Word of God is placed for a reason. I still have the question! PJC |

3 | No mention of the mark of Cain | Gen 1:1 | PJC | 78182
Genesis 4:15 So the Lord said to him, "Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengance will be taken on him sevenfold." And the LORD appointed a sign for Cain, lest anyone finding him should slay him. Someone from the forum had asked what was the mark (sign) that God set upon Cain? They also stated that the mark (or sign) was on Cain's forehead. That is untrue because the Bible does not say where or what the mark (sign) was. Word studies say that the definition of "sign" or "mark" is uncertain. By reading the entire passage in context one could safely say that God set some type of mark, sign on or within Cain so that he would have to live with his sin of murder on his hands. It seems to imply that all who came upon Cain from there on out would somehow be able to know about his great sin of murder. [NOTE: Interesting how this parallels the "marking" or "sign" of the blood on the doorposts and lintels when Israel was delivered out of Egypt. Could the sign have been a mark of blood? My presumption but it gets one thinking.] Cain's punishment was "greater" than "Cain could bear" (Gen. 4:13). He would become a wanderer and vagrant on the earth which must have been very bad as he could not "bear it". He dwelt in the "land of Nod" living in "unrest". There are some aspects of God's Word that are not revealed. We need to focus on the God-centered meaning instead of focusing on specific details that are left unexplained. Pray this gives guidance, PJC |

4 | Combat SIN | Luke 11:4 | PJC | 77835
Remember what Romans 6:6 and Romans 6:12 say: We are no longer slaves to sin AND we are not to let sin reign in our bodies. What this says about those who believe is that we no longer habitually sin. Believers do sin, but our sins should not be ongoing, repetative. The sin we have been set free of is the habitual sin that takes over ones' life. I hope this helps in understanding. PJC |

5 | Proper names of 2 spies in Jericho? | Ruth 2:1 | PJC | 77323
I know that Rahab was Boaz's mother from the Bible. My question was for "prayon" who earlier stated that Salmon was one of the 2 spies that Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. There is nothing in the Word that indicates that fact. I just get concerned when folks answer questions when those answers should have biblical verification. Some things discussed may be subjective but other things, like this statement made by prayon, aren't. Thanks for your input. PJC |

6 | Naomi's instructions to Ruth re: Boaz? | Ruth | PJC | 77299
I too agree Ruth was proposing marriage to Boaz. In your point 4, you talked about Boaz thinking Ruth blessed him by not going to "a younger man." Please consider this: According to the Levirate Law (Deut. 25:5-10)"the wife of the deceased was not to marry outside the family to a strange man." Although Ruth wasn't an Israelite (a Moabite) she took on the Israelite lifestyle and worship of God. She must have known about seeking the closest relative for her redeemer and thought Boaz was the one. That is why she approached Boaz and "no one younger." He informed her (Ruth 3:12) that there was a closer relative. I believe by Ruth asking Boaz to redeem her is akin to us… we have to come to Jesus, our closest relative and no other. We must, on our own, seek His gift of grace. In His Name, PJC |

7 | Is water baptism must for Holy communion | NT general Archive 1 | PJC | 76265

8 | Is water baptism must for Holy communion | NT general Archive 1 | PJC | 76255
Emmaus, I have been wondering what specifically your questions "Is that a yes or no answer?" regarding since the tree of response-notes has grown so long! I am assuming it is directed back to the original question "Is water baptism a must for Holy communion?" According to Scripture examples it is presented that way. So the answer would be yes. It is so sad that many churches do not teach this biblically. PJC |

9 | Who were the sons of God from Genesis 6 | Gen 6:4 | PJC | 76239
There are 3 thoughts on this verse of Scripture. NUMBER 1 - Some propose these "sons of God" are angels. This perspective is purported through Jude 6 and 7. This particular verse from Jude doesn't support or even relate to Genesis 6:2 in any way. THINK ON THIS: If this terrible thing that was going on was the fault of "angels, sons of God," then why was "man" punished by the flood? NUMBER 2: Some think that the "sons of God" were the godly line of Seth who were marrying into unbelievers (the women). This type of action (intermarrying) by God's people went on continually through the Old Testament and those people were never destroyed as in a flood. THINK ON THIS: How can these "sons of God" be believers when Noah was the only one found holy at this time? And also, why is "sons of God" not used this way in any other place in the Bible? NUMBER 3:The "sons of God" were sometimes used to describe kings.(Ex.21:6, 22:8) This would explain that these "sons of God" were immoral men kings who took any woman or women that they desired. These ruler kings were violent and lacked respect for others. If these kings, rulers, were so wicked, they certainly set an evil tone for their kingdoms. Genesis 6:5 says that God saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth at this time. Sexual sins are usually on the top of the list in the Bible when sin is discussed. THINK ON THIS: "Noah found favor and grace in the eyes of the LORD" as he must have been the only man who followed God's ways. SCRIPTURE TO NOTE: • Matthew 22:30 Angels do not marry. • Acts 17:25 He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things. PERSONAL NOTE: I used to believe the "sons of God" were fallen angels but I reasoned out my viewpoint through the Scriptures. In Genesis 1:26, God created man in His image, in His likeness and each thing He created reproduced "after its kind." There could not be angels having children with humans if indeed the "sons of God" were angels. That scenario contradicts Scripture. May God continue to bless your study of His Word! PJC |

You are right, a true believer would not neglect baptism. Baptism in any form, sprinkling or immersion, there is no excuse…if a believer comprehends the Scriptures. There could possibly be true believers who have been misled by their church by not requiring baptism as adults. (The church I attend has baptized many people from churches that do not have a baptistry. That says volumes about those believers and their understanding of the Word.) -PJC |

12 | House vs Business | Luke 2:49 | PJC | 74994
Loved one, you seem to want to look at this one verse through a microscope and thusly are forgoiing the ever important context of the chapter in which it dwells. God's Word was not meant to lift out and examine each verse independently for meaning. The wrong spiritual understanding usually ensues if one does this. I understand that you want to know if there is a difference in "House" or "Business" but again, that is not what the Greek translators were bound up with. Read my prior answer. Look to the whole council of God. PJC |

13 | When is abortion right? | Ex 21:23 | PJC | 74924
I don't know what a hackel is but you piqued my concern for giving an answer to when does life begin. CDBJ your answer is somewhat confusing and misleading in its application and I would like to share this response with you. Think about this… Adam and Eve were formed uniquely and differently from all other human beings. You say how? Adam was "formed from the dust of the ground and God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life…Eve was fashioned into a woman from the rib which God took from man." Genesis 2:7,22 Now, how has man reproduced since Adam? God has not been creating every single man from the dust of the earth nor are women derrived from men's sides. We procreate with sperm and egg. When those two things combine, that is when life begins. Amen to our Lord for the gift of life. |

14 | Caleb was a man filled with the Spirit. | Num 14:24 | PJC | 74233
I didn't think Caleb was a type of Holy Spirit because it does not say anything further about this in the Bible. All types and shadows are mentioned somewhere else, usually by Jesus in the Scriptures. So I have been searching the Scriptures and nothing mentioned about Caleb as a type. He certainly is a wonderful example of someone who was "filled" with the Holy Spirit! Thanks to Ray for the thoughts on this.
