1 | How to determine demonic posession? | Eph 6:13 | MWLaine | 221489
The inerrant bible...of course I believe the bible is perfect from stem to stern. Why don’t you just say that instead of sola scriptura? I had to Google sola scriptura to decide if I was serious about it. You know this type of response is why I stopped coming here…except for using this site to look up scripture that I can relay to other bloggers as I communicate with real atheists at Ray Comfort’s blog. So to those men and women who run this site thanks for the nice reference material and biblical search engine. It is quite the blessing. I can see though that I am not serious enough for this vaunted ivory tower. So fare thee well. MWL |

2 | Animals in the New Testament? | Prov 12:12 | MWLaine | 187580
Mark, Covering both of your posts in one post. Well the last couple of years post salvation(2002) my garden has suffered because I am immersed in a new endeavor, namely consumption of as much of the Word of God as I can read from the bible, and from various commentaries, and such. I am looking to sharpen my evangelical gift and prepare myself fully for each new foray into the world of the lost. Yes God feeds his creatures. Why because they are His, not ours. Even when we spend some of the money(Gods money) we have earned on purchasing a pet we have only still affirmed that God owns what is His. The little ball of fur that he has now put into your possesion is a test of what will you now do? In your case it is Hermit-Crabs. But you decided to have them...So was it Gods will? or Your will? that put them into your possesion. You could take them and release them to their natural habitat where they will get along just fine or you could continue to possess them. I have no real preference and am not alluding, to you, that you should change your course. Examination of the heart is what I am trying to get people to do when it comes to pets, hobbies, and other interests, that remove from men the hunger for the perfect relationship to God, through his Son Jesus. I am just stating the obvious in that, for me, time spent in an endeavor contrary to developing and using my spiritual gift seems to be senseless. I do see a value to putting a pet into the hands of a child who should learn the value of taking care of something outside of their own selfish needs. My little girl likes cats and we even had two in our home for a short period which I had to put the kybosh on because of undue strain put on mom, and I, when trying to keep a tidy-clean house. My little girl was saddened when the cats were sent away but mom and I were full of happiness that one less requirement to our already busy lives was put aside. Yeah!!! Seems to me that there was a patron Saint to animals. So I would assume that God, through the Holy Spirit, gives gifts of all types to different men and women. What then do we do to develop what we have been given because our gifts are to be shared with all men and women, and not...as I said before...to be hidden beneath a bushel basket. 3 | Animals in the New Testament? | Prov 12:12 | MWLaine | 187377
Lionheart, stjohn, and others, All of you who have helped in my edification on this issue deserve thanks. You are all my family members in Christ and as my family members I expected and recieved help on thrashing through what was happening in my spiritual life based on a disagreement with my sister over an animal. I had a disagreement with my sister on the length a person should go in providing Medical Attention to a pregnant cat. She had felt that the gestational period of the animal had been overshot and took the cat to a vet who wants to perform a C-Section delivery of the kittens. After delivery the vet was saying he was sure the cat is having trouble producing milk for the kittens and some alternate means of feeding them would have to occur. I responded to her that God made the animal to have kittens naturally and maybe she should just allow the cat to do what God had designed it to do. Were the cat to live or die I felt that God's Will be done. This got me called Hard-Hearted and told that anyone who would so torture or kill an animal would not slide gracefully into heaven. I don't think either of her comments were valid but Romans 14 puts me in a position in which I know I am right but why have the argument with someone who is at a different Christian maturity level. In the end I apologized for my callous words and asked "How about them Colts???". My position is known to all who have read these posts so I appreciate the call to Matthew 6:13 and Romans 14 and finally the truth that even the cats and dogs, living in the home, of a person who has found salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ benefit from the this persons new outlook on life. Well said and very edifying. |

4 | Animals in the New Testament? | Prov 12:12 | MWLaine | 187356
Thank you lionheart, I have been struggling with why I consider this over attention to animals sin and Matthew 6:33 nails it. I have always held to the idea that animals are animals. The dog I am petting today could be dinner tomorrow given my pressed need to feed my family. I suppose some people would find that a little twisted but I think God put all things here on earth for the good of men and women whom are made in Gods likeness. Plus, I also think that animals have a work purpose, as well, in deserving to have a relationship with the human they serve. Cats catch and eat mice and other vermin that bring disease around the household. Dogs provide an early warning system for danger. For this service we feed them thus maintaining their loyalty. It seems though that people pamper their pets as if they have a greater intrinsic value than what I can find to be biblical. My belief is that Idol Worship and False Gods, akin to the way Egyptians Worshipped Animals, is at the root of this problem. MWLaine |

5 | gifts of Healing and Miracles for today. | 1 Cor 12:9 | MWLaine | 187051
Hi Van, Is it not miracle enough that every new heart given to those saved, because of belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, Savior of All men, give rise to shouts of Hallelujah. Sometimes it is hard to see the miracle of re-birth in a new Christian until one has spent enough fellowship time with them. Once the obvious signs of the Fruit of The Spirit are seen in their lives, as defined in Galatians 5:22, we should be able to declaratively say we have witnessed another miracle. The miracle of re-birth is pretty awesome. And blessed is the man or woman who does not see but still believes in Jesus. Many times I would think that requiring a sign before belief is acknowledged would be a dangerous continued gage, for babies in the faith, to know if they are walking the narrow path to salvation. I have even been privileged enough to have witnessed what I would term minor miracles more akin to witnessing Gods unfolding plan. And I have had prayers answered. Both did lead me to a stronger faith, but, I think that the really unbelievable miracles, as accomplished by Jesus and the Apostles, were provided as a means for God to really get the ball…a rolling concerning the church. In engineering terms it takes a lot of energy to change the inertia of an object. And as an object the Jews of Jesus’ day were definitely a stiff-necked and perverse generation. The priests running the show liked the status quo. So in order for God to change the course of His people I think it was necessary to provide a lot of power in the miracles performed by Jesus. An even lesser degree of power was used in those miracles performed by the Apostles. Jesus started the ball a rolling with lots of power, the Apostles provided some less powerful thrusts of energy to help pick up the speed, and as Acts so vividly portrays it was no time at all before thousands of small miracles of regeneration were powering the Christian juggernaut. The church grew by leaps and bounds to the point where Luke stopped even trying to count the number of new believers after 5000. So in engineering terms we find that for any body in motion it requires a lot of energy to start moving but less energy to keep that body in motion. My experience at the church I attend testifies to the truth that new believers are being added daily in my community. After Easter 2007 we have seen some remarkable growth with lots of new babies in Christ. We the Saints must train them up in the way they should go but certainly their miraculous addition adds power to the Christian juggernaut. Why would bold audacious miracles be required at this day and age? Might we still be searching for a sign from God? Can’t we be witness to all those miracles written about in the bible by opening our minds and our bibles? What I am not so sure about would be the need for miracles as a means to encourage the church? I am sure that people still have prayers answered and are sometimes privileged to take note of the perfect timing of God as his plan unfolds. But, I suppose I would be somewhat afraid if I started seeing lots of miracles performed by WHO??? I can read and am warned to beware of those who might mislead the very elect through the use of miracles. Have the Saints slacked off in keeping the churches inertia? If so and the churches inertia were starting to fall away and God, desiring revival, might be so inclined to pump up the energy through some well timed and placed miracles then I suppose it would be Gods prerogative. But, I don’t think so unless it is found in the prophecy of things to come as already written in the bible. I know there are a lot of hurting people out there who desire healing. I have a son with cerebral palsy and would love for physical healing to come upon him so that he could leap and caper like a deer. But, more than that I love to see how he is changing since his salvation and the knowledge of Jesus comes into his mind. At the end of my days I want to look back and say with confidence to my son…”See you in heaven”. If anything more is added to that it is just extra gravy on the mashed ‘taters. 6 | Has Moses law been re established? | John 5:29 | MWLaine | 187045
Will we/me be judged? I know nothing except what the Holy Spirit guides my mind to within scripture. I examined Luke 24:25-27, 44-48 and I find it interesting that Jesus himself, upon resurrection, had to teach that His descriptive presence in the Word is scattered all over the Old Testament. And because those scriptures were fulfilled from his birth by a virgin, through his life, death, and resurrection, in like fashion we can expect fulfillment of the as yet unfulfilled Old and New Testament prophecy after the point that Jesus was taken up into Heaven. Those relative future prophecies that have had their fulfillment started with the gifting of the Holy Spirit, at Pentecost, and have continued to this day. Fulfillment will continue until all the Books through Revelation has been proved true. What an exciting and fearful day for humanity when Jesus returns. Humanity can read and know that many are going to be thrown into the Lake of Fire for the simple fact that they did not believe or put their faith in Jesus, and thus they denied the living God. So much wailing and gnashing of teeth will occur, as prophesied, because people will become 100-percent aware of how far they missed the mark. So close and yet so far..."Kerplunk right into the Lake of Fire". If anyone deserves it...I do!!!...that is why I am searching the scriptures..."Am I? or Am I Not? on the narrow road to salvation?" I think so but God have mercy upon me if I am missing the mark. Many people, if questioned, would admit that they think there is a God, and they think Jesus came to earth, yet they do not believe God or Jesus is relevant to their lives. Thus they deny the power and reality of God. Wouldn't this fulfill, in most peoples lives, the breaking of the unpardonable sin spoken of in Matthew 12:31 "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. Matthew 12:32 "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. We know that until the last second of life it is possible to receive paradise through the simple act of believing in Jesus and thus believing in God. But once we pass into the forever more...We will be judged. I think we all will come before the judgment seat of the Almighty and Powerful living God. I expect my own knees to knock out the tune, by the Beach Boys, "Wipe Out". But, then I am hoping that the promise, found in Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us., will be my salvation. Because of the following promise that those who believe in Jesus will not be cast aside...I can have rest in the knowledge that I will not be cast into the Lake of Fire. I expect that because of my sin I will be ashamed of myself beyond the pale when I stand in the presence of God and Jesus. How shameful it will be to have all my dirt divulged and then know that I imposed upon Jesus so maliciously to carry one more sin, and yet another, and another. What the hell is wrong with me? God Have mercy on me, the sinner. John 6:34 Then they said to Him, "Lord, always give us this bread." John 6:35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. John 6:36 "But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. John 6:37 "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. John 6:38 "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. John 6:39 "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. John 6:40 "For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day." Who knows, but God and those who are now in eternal torment in hell, of Gods righteous judgment. Such a small sin to man rationally concerning the eating of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We see an apple consumed. Come-on God its just an apple!!! But, God saw pure and simple disobedience. Out of the Garden of Eden you go. So will the day of judgment be without the saving grace of Jesus. MARANTHA Mwlaine “Yours in Christ” |

7 | I NEED A TRUE FRIEND THAT IS A CHRISTIAN | Bible general Archive 3 | MWLaine | 182079
Jeff, Sorry for being away so long I have been under duress remodeling the Master Bathroom. Ugh!!! Alright! I am hearing you when you say that truth is not foretold by some reaction we have to words spoken, or read. We have a reaction to words and ideas because they attach themselves to us via our God given gifts of empathy and imagination. Our minds can put us into the story of a Sermon so that we can get the flavor of the experiences of the stories being told in the bible. The way we respond to these stories is akin to having a heart to heart, open line, discussion with God. If an expositer, standing at the podium preaching the Sermon, is being true to his/her calling then the words being spoken are true and are intermingled with scripture from the bible. This makes the story come alive, so much so, that we might cry when we hear an expositor put more words on some simple truth like..."Pilate sent Jesus to be scourged". Matt 27:26 Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified. 3 Mark 15:15 Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified. 4 Luke 18:33 and after they have scourged Him, they will kill Him; and the third day He will rise again." 5 John 19:1 Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him. How simple a word is scourged. It takes a story teller to bring to life the magnitude of the whipping that the Roman soldiers gave Jesus. In Mel Gibsons movie "The Passion of The Christ" we got a feel for that magnitude. Audiences worldwide got choked-up and wept when watching that scene. And to think that 5-minute scene, in the movie, came from a little word... scourge. So knowing that a Sermon is an exposition of scripture, and knowing that our minds, if fed by daily bible reading, have scripture in storage areas that can be recalled, do we not then believe that the Holy Spirit can remind and guide our thinking to create connections between historical fact, from the bible, and current situations we are undergoing? Many times when that connection is made in my mind I feel a tingling sensation which I describe as "the hair on the back of my neck raising", or God-pimples. I know the difference, but you are right in correcting me, in regards to alluding to the idea that all hair raising events are God moments. But, never forget that Jesus taught as one having authority, not like the scribes or Pharisees. In this I mean that he taught in the way of parables which are for the express purpose of engaging the audiences minds and emotion so that the truth of what was being said could more easily be discerned or digested. These parables are part of what so confused the Pharisees. They could not easily cross compare the words of Jesus to their Jewish Religious texts. This made them call Jesus a false teacher or Beelzebub himself. All because he did not stay within their narrow textual boundaries. Guess what? The regular Joe on the street understood Jesus and could disern from Jesus' life, his truths, his parables, and his miracles that he was the Christ. And he/she was generally "un-edjoomacated". Truth is I think we are nearly saying the same thing??? Only in a different way. I don't mind at all being corrected because there is always the authority of Gods Word to tell me that in consulation a wise man is glad to take. You have been heard. Yours in Christ, Mark W Laine |

How to respond??? Thank you Doc for your concern. I am clueless as to what you mean "to teach that experiences can lead us to right conclusions about the work of God." I don't think I alluded to that at all in my encouragment of MommieSadie but you must think so. Also, I am not knowing why you feel the need to use a subtle threat about the terms of use in Lockman's SBF but I am sure you might wish to enlighten me. Nevertheless when I find a wounded man(or woman) lying in the road I feel a compulsion to take care of that person. Maybe a review of the tale of the good Samaritan would be in order for your future Study Bible Forum. As in Proverbs does the wise man accept rebuke? Yes he does!!! But did you give me anything I could gnaw on? NOPE. Also your use of "We in the forum" must make you believe I am not included as one who believes in the supreme authority of the Scriptures. Pure hubris. Be careful...Prov 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling. Now if you were David, and knowing that I have just thrown a stone at you, would you have your soldier kill me? Yours in Christ, MWLaine |

How to respond??? Thank you and Doc for your concern. Witness of Scripture is how the Holy Spirit leads my mind to remember and zero in on a piece of scripture that is pertinent to the situation being mulled over. These revelations can cause many different emotions when the truth is revealed so that the sinner realizes they are in need of a cleansing repentance to God Almighty. Did not God give man the gift of emotion? Maybe so we could love God and our neighbor? Maybe so we could recognize our need to be Poor in Spirit? Or, Maybe so we could be Mournful over our sin? Or, Maybe so we can get riled-up(hunger and thirst for righteousness) at our perception of injustice? Or, Maybe so we can take pity upon a poor soul whose screamed out plea of "I NEED A TRUE FRIEND THAT IS A CHRISTIAN" can be responded to in love? Or, maybe so we can respond in peace to our brother whose rebuke is well intentioned? I don't know anything I am not a theology major I simply read and love Gods Word. And on this occasion I was simply perusing past written questions and replies and the Holy Spirit led me to respond to MommieSadie with encouragement. I want MommieSadie to know that God experiences do occur and I always have an emotional response to having been given the gift of being able to logically string together the sequences of events to some of the miracles I have witnessed. We are all sinners of which I am the worst. Mea Culpa and Lighten up Brothers, MWLaine PS: Jeff the Holy Spirit was bearing witness with your spirit that you should not have been watching whatever scary movie you were watching. |

To KumKum, I see you have a demon that needs to be exercised. Jesus commanded all demons that he found inhabiting men, such as Legion, and these same demons knew Jesus and shook with fear. They knew the Lord of Lords was more powerful then their master Satan and they knew Jesus was about to cast them into the outer darkness before their time so they begged that he let them go into a herd of swine(pigs). The Lord Jesus said "Begone", to Legion, and they left and entered the swine. I say, to the demon inhabiting KumKum, begone in the name of the Lord Jesus the Nazarene, the Messiah, the Lord of Lords, the Son of God, the Most High who is the redeemer of all men. Leave the writer KumKum in peace that he might find redemption through Christ. KumKum begin a right relationship with the Lord Jesus through repentance for your sins and putting all your faith into believing that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, but then rose again from death to defeat death for men caused by sin. In particular Jesus's resurrection defeated the plans that Satan has for your destruction after your death when you stand in judgement before a Righteous and Holy God. If you will believe in Jesus now as your Savior you can avoid the Lake of Fire. If not you are doomed for eternity as is the demon(s) who now posses you. Repent and be saved. See Matthew 8:28-34 to get a right understanding that your demons are no match for the Son of God. |

Doc, Oh!!! The ark of the covenant. In that case...I recall construction of the box called for acacia wood. Ex 37:1 Now Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood; its length was two and a half cubits, and its width one and a half cubits, and its height one and a half cubits; Having read many of your posts I should have known you had something specific in mind. Thanks Doc, I had considered the thought that deceitful spirits could be roiled in this vision. But, if it was an attempt to stifle my enthusiasm, for testifying of my salvation in Jesus Christ, it did not work as I testified bodly of Jesus later that same afternoon to a lost soul. I really appreciate your post of 1 Timothty 4:1 as it allows me to see both sides of what might be happening. Thanks, MWLaine |

13 | Is the end at hand? | Joel 2:28 | MWLaine | 179557
BradK, Hard to say Brad. Since I am only reporting what I saw and heard in a vision during prayer I am only being faithful to speak of those things I saw. Would it make you feel odd that at my Christian awakening I heard a still small voice tell me I was the "Lost Lamb" after I had spoke into the darkness of the night "Who am I to you Lord". I am no longer lost but it is part of my testimony to others who would listen. So I suppose this is just another part of my testimony but it makes me wonder if we will see less of a harvest in the near future. Will the workers for Christ redouble their efforts but experience few yield gains. I do not know!!! But I will continue to speak of Jesus to those who would listen but I know that without Gods call to the lost his workers have no plants to collect for the harvest. Lord God, heavenly Father, take pity upon the people and though we are unworthy to ask it may we continue to glean the fields for grain that has been missed or has fallen to the ground. We know that you are a gracious and loving God as seen in the book of Jonah and we desire that your will be done on earth and in heaven. And, just as father Abraham asked that for the sake of 10-righteous men Sodom be spared we also ask for time to glean your fields and improve the yield of your harvest with your help. In Jesus name we do ask these things. Amen. |

Joanna, I have found myself looking often to the skys at dusk using the phrase Maranatha(Come Lord Jesus). But, I am very afraid for those who are still lost and/ or deceived. I have family members who are not ready and I will weep exceedingly if they become the left behind. I have testified to my immediate family but hear mainly silence in regards to their true relationship to Christ. I can't stop speaking and would give anything to hear them respond in something other than lukewarm platitudes. Other testimonies would cheer me greatly. And I really appreciate the Joel 2:28 passage. I am excited about the prospects of being with the Lord but I am afraid for many. I pray that when the Lord comes he will find his faithful laborers bent to the task of his work. I count myself as blessed to stand amongst his workers. Maranatha, MWLaine |

15 | What kind of bush was it when god spoke | Ex 3:2 | MWLaine | 179552
Doc, Cool bush. Literally. I did see a mistake in your naming the type of wood Noah used as Acacia but was called out as Gopher wood as in.... Gen 6:14 "Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and shall cover it inside and out with pitch. Not knowing what Gopher Wood is I think it may be a play on words. Because the Ark was so big, Noah was continually saying to his sons "Go Fer Wood". ;) What say ye? Sorry for posting so long after the fact but I was just perusing and thought it might be a fun post. "Jocularity" as Father Mulcahe used to quip on Mash. Also, I saw a Christian documentary on a potential ark resting place in Iran at a place called the saddle of Solomon. Very interesting find providing valued archealogical evidence proving the existence of Noah. Of course the scientific community rejects the theory but I was very intrigued as to what was discovered and photographed. Since then it appears the material this team brought back was verified to be actual petrified wood. Regardless it is decent evidence that might be used in arguing the Christian belief in the Bible as the absolute truth and inerrant Word of Yahweh. Of course even the miracles of Jesus will not persuade the unbeliever but it is exciting to be able to make the statement that the Ark has been found and now rests at coordinates, such and such. Someday in heaven I am gonna ask Noah what Gopher Wood was or is? Assuming that the size of the ark did not consume it all for the sake of construction. Yours in Christ, MWLaine |

16 | Mat 5:27-28. Adultery. | Prov 5:1 | MWLaine | 178175
I want to ask you a simple question? In trying to please God do you believe that you are working for, or being a participant in, your salvation? Jesus did all the work for us when he died for us on that cross. He took upon himself the sins of the world so that if we believe in him our sins are forgiven and we attain salvation. Afterwards Jesus comes into our temple(body/heart/mind) and knits a scourge of cords and proceeds to clean Gods house, our temple, of all unrighteousness. All we have to offer in this process is sitting patiently at the door and acknowledge, with repentence and sorrow, all the filthy sin that Jesus expels from the temple. This is a revelation from God, to my mind, that helped me in stopping my foolish attempts at sexual fasts, and the such, as a means to offer up to God something more for my salvation. I found that nothing more was needed other than my telling others that "I believe in Jesus Christ and that he alone is responsible for having given me the gift of salvation, through grace". I know what I am made of and have found I need a woman to help keep the flames of lust from over-whelming me. I had let God down in the past with a promise to him concerning a fast from the flesh of my wife for forty-days. Guess what I was a miserable failure and felt really bad for having failed God so I kept trying and the more I tried the harder I fell. Finally God gave me the revelation I wrote to you above. Jesus did all the work. You should simply be thankful and accept the gift, in faith. Since I have stopped striving and now look to Jesus to help me in my daily walk I find I am getting along much better as a Christian. Do not assume you are something more than what you are. For God says in Paslm 46:10 "Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth". If you want to please God speak of his son Jesus to anyone who will listen. |

17 | Mat 5:27-28. Adultery. | Prov 5:1 | MWLaine | 178174
More Reading... 1 Corinthians 7:1-40 These verses are all about what you are speaking of. In these verses the Apostle Paul speaks of encouraging those who can be like him - without a wife, wholly devoted to spreading the good news of Jesus and being lead by God for the purposes of his good work. BUT!!! Paul knows that God created man and woman to be together so he does not discourage marriage and indicates it is not sin to need a wife. If you are inclined for the need of a wife then it is AOK to have a wife. Otherwise Satan has a means to lead you into temptation through the thorn in your flesh that causes man to hunger for women. (Notice the plural?) If you have the thorn of lust it will not go away by avoiding marriage. It only becomes stronger and leads your eye to bounce from woman to woman. A wife helps you control your lust through the release of desire through intimate relations in the marital bed. A wife should know all there is to know about her man and should be your help-meet to remove the thorn of lust through valid marital relations. God designed man to desire a woman so as to be fruitful and multiply thus out-producing unbelievers with children that can be raised up in the knowledge of God, becoming believers in Christ our Lord. It is one of my great pleasures to sit with my children teaching them the bible so that they can become knowledgeable in the truth and word of God. Raise up your children in the way they should go and in their old age they will not depart from it.
