1 | Is it God speaking?? | James 1:5 | Lissamz | 213319
Thank You for answering. But I'm wondering...Does this mean that the ones that have talked about this around me have been "over exaggerating" or "over-stating" the truth? I mean they come off so "spiritual" and I seem so "simple." I don't understand it, but the Scripture you quoted does shine the "light" on the situation. I don't have to feel bad anymore because I feel like a "lower-class" Christian, because I don't have to "tak[e] his stand on visions [he claims] he has seen" as something lacking in my life. God bless and shine His countenance upon you, MJH |

2 | Is it God speaking?? | James 1:5 | Lissamz | 213317
Thank You so much. I do need to look up, because I am well aware of my inadequacies. And I will begin to pray for the Lord to increase my faith. I just wanted to know if I was having a spiritual problem, because of others around me. I know the answer lies within Christ and the Word, and the Holy Spirit at work within me. I will continue to "press in" because I truly love the Lord. Blessing and peace be multiplied towards you, DocTrinsograce |

3 | Hatred..Am I truly a Christian?? | Matt 5:44 | Lissamz | 203582
Thank you all for your prayers and responses. The LORD has worked in His mighty way that is so amazing that it is unknown to me. I know longer feel hatred towards this person. Only love and a great hope that he will, through God's will come to know Christ as his LORD and Savior. It is just hard to deal with a worldly person in your own house. But this burden is from the LORD, and He has shown me this. I have to fight the good fight of faith and remain in the LORD at all times. (Plus, those "Adonai, please help me right now" prayers have helped a lot. Thank you so much for your support. And thanks for the myriad of responses I have read on other topics on this website.
4 | Anointing?? | 1 John 2:27 | Lissamz | 147055
Hello cast net, I know your concerns, I've had them before too with the board, but I made a conscience choice to obey Jesus. He told us to "love one another" (John 13:34; 15:17; 1 John 3:23; 2 John 5) and what the Lord Jesus Christ said He meant. So, I love my brothers and sisters in Christ and there are a lot of people on this site that truly, honestly follow that command, including BradK, who answered my question on this topic. Praise the Lord that His people are able to believe and apply by faith "O righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me; and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them." (John 17:25-26) May we all be filled to overflowing with His great love. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

Thank you for your heartfelt and informative response Hank (and make note, most of your posts I have read are really informative- Praise God!) I will check out those guidelines and I pray that this forum will be one of "so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God" Col. 1:10 The good LORD knows we need places online to discuss and learn more about His Word. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

8 | Discerning Christians? | Heb 5:14 | Lissamz | 146884
Thanks for your 3 cents (see more than 2!!). I think you are right to say that seeking the Lord is the first and foremost need, before judging what is not plain and blatantly in front of our faces. I just think that humans many times judge based on experience and personal motives, rather than in the context of godly understanding, then wisdom. So, again, you are right, seeking His face and applying His will to our lives is always the perfect way to approach the situation. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

9 | Was this passage fulfilled B4 Christ? | Ex 23:25 | Lissamz | 146881
Greetings Doc, Sure I'll expand..."Personally speaking to believers" I define as such. (I'm using myself as an example :-) God spoke to me a couple of weeks ago through a portion of Judges 6:26 "...build an altar to the LORD your God on the top of this stronghold in an orderly manner." This was actually more of a command, now that I think about it, but continuing...There were some issues in my immediate family, that I was being tempted to fall into (complaining and grumbling to be specific), but through this passage the Lord showed me that He wanted me to build an altar of sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise in my mind and in front of my family members, instead of falling into line with them. Now, for promises that personally speak to believers as a whole...(whew, there are so many), but one of my favorites is 2 Thess. 2:13 "But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth." And I don't think that this promise can be 'explained or interpreted' any other way other than the way it is presented in the Word. And, more so even, the command to "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh." (Gal. 5:16) is just that- a COMMAND, no personal interpretation needed. And personal application is simple, with no needed "frillys"- Walk by the Spirit. I believe strongly that reading Scripture is one thing- Applying it in our lives is a totally different ballpark. Heb. 2:4 in the NIV says "For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith." |

Question: "How do I know which of God's promises are for me?" Answer: To frame this question another way, “How can one tell the difference between general promises and specific promises?” A general promise is one that is given by the Holy Spirit to every believer in every age. When the author penned the promise, he set no limitation on time period or recipient. An example of a general promise is 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This promise is based on the forgiving nature of God and is available to all believers, everywhere. Another example of a general promise is Philippians 4:9, “The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” This promise is made to all believers who, refusing to worry, bring their requests to God (verse 8). Other examples of general promises include Psalm 1:3; 27:10; 31:24; John 4:13-14 (note the word whosoever); and Revelation 3:20. A specific promise is one that is made to specific individuals on specific occasions. The context of the promise will usually make it clear who is the intended recipient. For example, the promise of 1 Kings 9:5 is very specific: “I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel forever.” The preceding verses make it clear that the Lord is speaking only to Solomon. Luke 2:35 is another specific promise: “A sword shall pierce through thy own soul also.” This prophecy/promise was directed to Mary and was fulfilled in her lifetime. While a specific promise is not made to all believers generally, the Holy Spirit can still use a specific promise to guide or encourage any of His children. For example, the promise of Isaiah 54:10 was written with Israel in mind, but the Holy Spirit has used these words to comfort many Christians today: “My kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of My peace be removed.” As he was led to take the gospel to the Gentiles, the Apostle Paul claimed the promise of Isaiah 42:6-7: “I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth” (see Acts 13:47). Isaiah’s promise was originally meant for the Messiah, but in it Paul found guidance from the Lord for his own life. When claiming a promise from scripture, keep the following principles in mind: 1) Promises are often conditional. Look for the word if in the context. 2) God gives us promises to help us better accomplish His will. A promise does not make God bend to our will. 3) Do not assume to know when, where, or how the promise will be fulfilled in your life. -taken directly from GotQuestions.org God may use any promises "in a spiritual sense" to personally speak to believers personally, in their personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. You cannot "in general" confirm or dismiss a(ny) promises that another receives from the Word of God. That's why we have a PERSONAL relationship with the LORD. Also, I was not speaking necessarily about every 'specific' promise in the OT as being fulfilled by Jesus, but to the OT seen in it's entirety. The OT, overall, points us to Christ Jesus. I hope I cleared up any misunderstanding and made my point perfectly clear. |

11 | Hmmm...Self-Examination | Prov 17:14 | Lissamz | 146868
Hmmm Saints, Seems to me that discussion is far and few inbetween on this website at times (actually, to be truthful, a lot of times). Proverbs 17:14 "The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts." Proverbs 20:3 "It is honorable for a man to stop striving, Since any fool can start a quarrel." Ahhh, and a one more bit of the lessons in the Word... "If a believer sees another believer sinning, it is their duty to lovingly and respectfully confront the person with their sin (Matthew 18:15-17). This is not judging, but rather is pointing out the truth in hope of bringing repentance in the other person (James 5:20)." -gotquestions.org website Now, how about some decent DISCUSSION and refraining from arguing. The LORD does also see the posting on the boards, and the intent of the thoughts and the motivation of the heart behind the postings. Are we seeking to bring brothers and sisters into fellowship and help them along? Or are we seeking self-exultation and prideful recognition to "be right"? Meditation on the Word...Hmmmm |

Sorry, slipped my mind... P.S. Healing for God's people was fulfilled on the Cross. Is 53:5 "The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed." Regardless of what you personally think or anyone else personally thinks, I believe God over man and I know I have been healed spiritually through His stripes. I will post on this subject no more. hidden in Christ Jesus, Lissa |

14 | EdB, Is promise here for believers today | Ex 23:25 | Lissamz | 146818
EdB, I thank you for having the attitude of James 1:19 "...But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger..." You actually read what I was saying and read my disclaimer from my first posting on this topic where I made it 100 percent clear that I had not read the entirety of the post and only chose to offer what the Word says Itself about the OT promises that apply to believers today THROUGH the atoning and redepmtive work that Jesus performed on the Cross. God bless you and shine His countenance upon you. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

15 | Lissa, which promise(s) do you mean? | Ex 23:25 | Lissamz | 146817
EdB, Are you really trying to say that the OT promises are not fulfilled in Christ? Because if so, your analysis and conclusion is total heresy. The entire Bible points to Jesus Christ and God the Father's work of salvation. I totally and outwardly refute that you say otherwise. For this to be resurrection season, you must see that Christ was the true Messiah, because the OT pointed to Him in many ways- through Moses, through the prophets, down to through the OT sacrificial system. Again, heresy to say that the OT was not a forshadow to the redemptive, complete work of the Cross through the Lord Jesus. I will pray that your eyes would be opened to this fact and God would teach you Himself personally. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

18 | worship in front of a wooden cross | 2 Kin 18:4 | Lissamz | 146074
Hi Jobi! I don't have an exact yes/no answer for you, but my personal experience has been that I cannot sleep well (without having ludicrous dreams that make me toss and turn all night), but am able to sleep quite well with my Bible. (And I have a lot of them!, so it really doesn't matter which one) Do I worship my Bible? No, not at all. I just have the comfort of knowing if I awake in the middle of the night w/ these dreams, that the Word is near and I have quick access. (I even have tabs on my "emergency phone numbers" that encourage me to cry out to God for help in my time of need. So, I guess some might object to the above, saying I put too much power in the Bible. But it's that God put much power into His Word: Jer. 23:29 " "Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD , "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?" Luke 24:32 "They said to one another, "Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?" Psalm 119:93 "I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have given me life." John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." 1 Pet 1:23 "having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever," Acts 19:20 "In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power." So, maybe I should rephrase for the ones that would need a basic blanket statement. It's not sleeping with the Bible, it is knowing the Word of God is near and easily accessible. hidden in Christ, Lissa |

19 | Jesus not Legalism!! | 1 Cor 7:15 | Lissamz | 144011
EdB, As I previously posted: I responded to Doc, on my issue. Teaching or leading in the Word, cannot be done biblically apart from the love of God. We cannot remove God's Love from Truth, nor can we remove God's Truth from His Love. It is even hard for me to do this! I cry out to Him for help in this area, but I do know one thing- Eph. 4:15 "Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ." (NIV) "Rather, let our lives lovingly [a]express truth [in all things, speaking truly, dealing truly, living truly]. Enfolded in love, let us grow up in every way and in all things into Him Who is the Head, [even] Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)." (AMP) Love for God first through Jesus, His Son and the indwelling Holy Spirit, and next for our fellow man is our foundation, and this is totally biblical and found all throughout the Word. |

20 | some people say you must speak in tongue | 1 Cor 12:4 | Lissamz | 143934
Hank, Good evening brother, I wanted to personally commend you on your stance of "the ones I simply don't understand." I've heard Beth Moore state, "When you see something or hear something that is not neccessarily laid out in the Word or you don't understand it, know enough about God, that you trust His heart to perfectly know what is His perfect knowledge in the matter." (paraphased) I find this little tidbit, can easily stop the arguing and fussing! Blessings to you from the Father. |
