1 | Temple Desecration ? Jews ? swine ? | Daniel | Jensen | 48919
Dear CoolRob....I searched the NIV and found that "Desecration" does not appear in the text, "Jew" or "Jews" appear(s) 255 times, "swine" does not appear in the text. Pig or Pigs appear 19 times though. And we know of temple desecration, it's just that the words are not used, at least in the NIV. God Bless....Jensen |

2 | Cain and Seth's wives descended from who | Genesis | Jensen | 45703
Dear Sctt....Thanks for your quick reply. You avoid the central issue by setting up a straw man that you knock down with ease. But here is the nut of my note.... "You (scott)deny that Adam and Eve were the first humans and that from them (and them alone)came all mankind." Just simply declare that you do not believe that the Bible is true in all that it says. That way Forum members can discuss the issues that you raise. You can not have it both ways as many Christian liberals would like. Either the Bible is true OR it is not. Since the Bible is plain in teaching the Origins of Humankind, you can beg to disagree. But please stop dancing - defend your beliefs with Scripture or turn about. Think about it. The only defense of your beliefs is secular. And those arguments fall each day as science uncovers and supports His intelligent design. God Bless....Jensen |

3 | Cain and Seth's wives descended from who | Genesis | Jensen | 45555
Dear sctt....I have been following this thread with some interest. Please try to avoid "dueling scriptures" since no one is rebuking you anyhow. You deny that Adam and Eve were the first humans and that from them came all mankind. There also was a time when God instructed men to eat no pork and Peter had a heck of a time after/at his vision. Did God not change His "rules"? Do not put God in a box. Before Leviticus there was no such "sin" as incest. The Bible, OT to NT, is replete with the things God changed. Shall we offer animals as a sacrifice or did Jesus make animal sacrifice obsolete? A new covenant means new. HEB 7:18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God." What you call incest (and a sin) was introduced just as other things were set aside. God Bless....Jensen |

5 | WILL FAMILY ACCEPT MORMON SPOUSE | Acts 1:1 | Jensen | 44390
Dear Brethren... The first Christians were not "socialist" for selling all they had. They expected the return of Jesus to be immeadiate and many did not want to leave the city. They had no way of providing for themselves and so we had "Charity" or Christian Love not socialism as it is understood. Socialism, like Communism, puts the state at the center of the universe, above man and a diminishing God. God Bless....Jensen |

6 | what does the scripture 1 Thes 4:16 mean | Phil 1:23 | Jensen | 44380
Dear Muffy….Perhaps an analogy would help to understand this passage. You and your friends all decide to go to a ball game. As you enter the arena an usher gives each of you a ticket for a drawing that will be held at the end of the game for a great prize. None of you have been taught that all the tickets are winning tickets. But as the game goes on and on, some of your friends get tired and leave the arena. But, you worry, what of their drawing tickets? Can they still win even though they are not present? That is the question that is put to Paul by these Christians. Paul writes to the Thessalonians to assure them about their friends and family who die before the parousia, or rapture. These Christians, like Paul, looked forward to the rapture within their lifetimes and were worried that they would miss the victory and glory of the Lord’s return if they died first. However if we die first what matter is it really? Our “tickets” are not only still good, but we will rise first to meet the Lord. Note that Paul never set a date for this cosmic event yet he certainly wanted it sooner rather than later. The Thessalonians, like all Christians today, do not need to worry. One way or another, we will be there with our bodies to see the victory. Praise God. God Bless….Jensen |

7 | Predestination | Eph 1:4 | Jensen | 42347
Dear John...Thanks...I think I may be confusing predestination with election. Please tell me which statement would best describe your belief. 1)God knows before we are born the free choices that each man will make during his lifetime. Or 2)God, through His Holy Spirit, directs (not prompts)a man to choose Christ making him an elected. You may see my confusion :-) God Bless....Jensen |

8 | Predestination | Eph 1:4 | Jensen | 42344
Dear Joe...Thanks...I am finding this one a bit sticky and I know I came to the discussion late. So.....Which is it?...1)God foreordains a man to come to Christ and he does. Or 2)A man chooses to come to Christ and God knew that he would. Do you see my confusion? I am trying to reconcile predestination and freewill. I can't seem to do it (understand the scripture?) God Bless....Jensen |

9 | Predestination | Eph 1:4 | Jensen | 41796
Dear John....Thanks for your quick reply. Just like the fat man said when he crawled under the barb wire fence "Just one more point and I will be through" God does not react to what He discovers in the book (analogy.) He is a Player also. And He knows what each little part will be played out. OR you may not believe, as I do, that God knows what the final outcome will be. I can not argue predestination because I deny it's existance....as understood by our contemporaries. And here is why. Predestination eliminates any chance at all that we come to Christ freely since Predestination would be a plan for our lives. Just like the machines we invent. A lawnmower will always be a lawnmower. The lawnmower is predestined. It will never make the choice to be a hedgetrimmer. Predestination does not exist, can't, never will. OR freewill does not exist, can't, never will. I go with the former :-) It just makes sense to me. God Bless....Jensen |

10 | Predestination | Eph 1:4 | Jensen | 41787
Dear John...I am sorry that you missed the point. I agree with everything you wrote. The analogy works. Predestination, as understood by contemporary sinners, does not work. God knows what we will choose. He knows when He will offer His Gift to us. He knows our hearts, He knows when we will come to the final challenge of death, and if we will be with Him or not. He knows all this prior to our natural birth. Prior to our life being played out by us. I hope I have been a little more clear on this point. We have no disagreement on theology that I am aware of. You implied that I was irreverent. But God is the Author of life, and not, as you say, "a mere reader" and I never implied that. That is why I began with stating that to understand predestination, an analogy might help. I mean no disrespect. Chill :-) God Bless....Jensen |

11 | What are the names of Jesus' sisters. | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 41669
Dear Jules....I do not know the names but....Matt 13:55 "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" Jesus had brothers AND sisters. 12 | who was Simon of Cyrene | Mark 15:21 | Jensen | 41663
Dear Prayon...You Wrote.. "If simon was at first forced to become personally involved in the physical cross of Jesus, it appears later that he chose to take on the spiritual meaning of the cross for himself." I looked to confirm what you wrote but came up short. Could you possibly be confusing this Cyrene with another Simon? Clarification puposes only my friend. God Bless....Jensen |

13 | Is today the only day of salvation for a | 2 Pet 3:1 | Jensen | 41224
Dear Arnie.... You Wrote..."Well the world would sure be a lot better place, now wouldn't it." Referring to an earlier post of yours that did not see a "just and merciful" God at work in the way salvation works. I'm happy that you think you found a better plan for the world than God has established. If I understand your position, and the words are there for all to read, we all deserve to receive whatever we want regardless of what our Creator wants. But wait! My man designed lawnmower no longer wants to cut grass and my other man made objects no longer want to work in the way I have designed them to work. The revolt of the machines!! The insane have taken over the asylum. Oh no. But surely that is better than submitting to a designer or Designer/Creator. After all you would argue, how could the designer know any more than his design as to what is best? Satan’s folly dear friend Arnie. Harry Truman said “Nothing is new except the history you haven’t read” and that applies to all of us studying the Bible in the Christian community. If indeed you are a Christian. We sometimes get jokesters on the Forum. But I think you were serious when you said that if God would do it your way the world would be a lot better place. God Bless….Jensen P.S. Usually after a few posts on the Forum, contributors will tell us all a little about themselves in the “personal profile” section. I enjoy your input and look forward to knowing a little more about you. God Bless. |

14 | Is today the only day of salvation for a | 2 Pet 3:1 | Jensen | 41153
Dear Arnie.…You Wrote…. “I don't think it is either just or merciful to send billions of people who have never been given a chance to know the truth to eternal damnation.” And I was just wondering if you thought that if people would just lead a good life, wherever they are, and did a bunch of community work to help others, or was just an all around nice guy….that he should deserve and be given salvation? Just curious :-) God Bless….Jensen |

15 | Church of Christ doctrine | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 40876
Dear Grace...You ask a very good question and you will be offered various perspectives. Here is a perspective from the Christion Research Institute. I copied it in its entirety with additional links. God bless....Jensen CRI PERSPECTIVE CP0604 IS THE CHURCH OF CHRIST A CHRISTIAN CHURCH? Some Christians believe that the Church of Christ promotes non-biblical teachings and practices. Is the Church of Christ a Christian church? The Church of Christ movement originally arose in the hopes of promoting unity among all Christians, but it eventually ended up separating itself from other Christian groups. Although the Church of Christ movement is basically Christian, it's difficult not to categorize certain factions as aberrant because of some of their more extreme doctrines and practices. Of all its beliefs, the Church of Christ movement is perhaps best known for its view that water baptism is absolutely essential for salvation. This is no doubt a "sub-biblical" view of baptism. Acts 10:44-48, for example, records that Gentiles were filled with the Holy Spirit (and therefore saved) before they were baptized. Water baptism is certainly a normal part of becoming a Christian and a member of the church; nevertheless, it's still possible to be saved without having been baptized -- especially when circumstances make baptism very difficult if not impossible (cf. Luke 23:39-43). Now, some of the more extreme factions within the Church of Christ movement go even further, and argue that anyone who views baptism differently from them is not a Christian and is, therefore, lost .. even if that person has been baptized! There are also reports that heavy-handed tactics are employed by a number of more extremist groups within the Church of Christ. The Boston Movement, for example, which evolved from a similar movement at the Crossroads Church of Christ, is probably the most well-known of these authoritarian groups. Both movements were rejected by the mainline Churches of Christ. This particular group goes so far as to say that other segments of the Church of Christ movement are non-Christian and will face eternal damnation. And so, while the Church of Christ movement is orthodox in many of the essentials of the faith, it is plagued with a very loud segment whose views are so extreme that developing any type of Christian fellowship with them becomes almost an impossible task. But remember, don't throw the baby out with the bath water; there are many within the Church of Christ movement who are committed Christians. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION Available through CRI is a Fact Sheet on the various groups and beliefs within the Church of Christ (DO600/0.25). 16 | who did cain marry? | Gen 1:1 | Jensen | 39253
WRONG....It is always about scripture. That is why we are here studying the Bible and not studying the social interactions of the modern age. You seem to think that using the word "wrong" is extreme. But it's use is never extreme when it used in the defense of the Bible and especially in the above case. We are here for the intellectual not the emotional. Do not FEEL sorry for Hank but, rather, THINK of what he wrote. God Bless....Jensen |

18 | Is this a false prophet? | Job | Jensen | 33868
Thanks for your reply...Just one thing though. You wrote... "Any church giving a test is kind of going back to the origins of the word church - Circus" I know that you once heard that somewhere, but it wasn't true. The origin of the word "church" is not circus. "Church" has it's origins like this according to Websters Dictionary.... "Middle English chirche, from Old English cirice, ultimately from Late Greek kyriakon, from Greek, neuter of kyriakos of the lord, from kyrios lord, master; akin to Sanskrit KTra hero, warrior Date:before 12th century"..... ........so "church" has its origins in "Lord" Circus has its origin in the word which means "ring". "Latin, circle, circus— more at CIRCLE Date:14th century" Don't for one moment believe half the crap you here about our church. People will make up all kinds of things to bring even a little dishonor upon His Church. Defend the Faith and His church by testing all things. If it doen't sound right in your gut (Holy Spirit?) then check it out. Be in a position to defend the Faith, to give a reason for the Hope that we have. Your brother in Christ Jesus. God Bless....Jensen |

19 | Let's crucify Ezra Brown | Job | Jensen | 33861
No...You misunderstood. Advice was being offered by myself and others as to how to comport oneself on the Forum. CAPS are seldom used except for emphasis. Puntuation helps to seperate sentences, and therefore it is easier for the reader to understand the thought that is being conveyed. Some will capitalize God or Lord to show respect for the name (Name) :-) No crucifiction intended :-) God Bless....Jensen |
