Tim, The New World Translation has been shown to be accurate. For example, the Hebrew word ne´ghev is thought to be derived from a root meaning “be parched†and often denotes the semiarid area S of the mountains of Judah. From the circumstance that this region lay S of Judah, neg'hev also came to mean “south†and is used with reference to a southern side (Nu 35:5), a southern boundary (Jos 15:4), and a southern gate (Eze 46:9). In some translations a distinction between the geographic designation and the compass direction is not maintained, resulting in confusing renderings. An example of this is Genesis 13:1, where translating ne´ghev as “south†(AS, KJ, Le) makes it appear that Abraham went southward out of Egypt, when actually his direction was northward through the Negeb to Bethel. But this difficulty has been eliminated in many modern translations.-AT, JB, NW, RS. Closely related words in the original Bible languages are translated, where possible, by different English words, thus alerting the Bible student to possible different shades of meaning. Thus, synteleia is rendered “conclusion†and telos “end,†although both words are translated “end†in many other versions. (Matthew 24:3, 13) The word kosmos is rendered “world,†aion “system of things,†and oikoumene “inhabited earth.†Again, many Bible translations use merely “world†to represent either two or all three of these Greek words, although, in fact, there are differences between them.-Matthew 13:38, 39; 24:14. Similarly, the New World Translation carefully notes the difference between gnosis (“knowledgeâ€) and epignosis (translated “accurate knowledgeâ€)-a difference ignored by many others. (Philippians 1:9; 3:8) It also distinguishes between taphos (“grave,†an individual burial place), mnema (“tombâ€), mnemeion (“memorial tombâ€), and haides (“hadesâ€) (Matthew 27:60, 61; John 5:28; Acts 2:29, 31). And at Matthew 21:43, are you not aware that the fleshly "seed of Abraham", the nation of natural Israel, had the opportunity to fully become God's kingdom. God said to them when at the wilderness of Sinai: "And now if you will strictly obey my voice and will indeed keep my covenant, then you will certainly become my special property out of all [other] peoples, because the whole earth belongs to me. And you yourselves will become to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ (Exodus 19:5,6 ) However, the Israelites, as a nation, failed to "keep my covenant" and only a remnant of them put faith in Jesus.(Rom 9:27-29 ) Hence, others were chosen to replace them as "Abraham's seed", to make up this new "nation". Paul wrote: "For not all who [spring] from Israel are really “Israel.†Neither because they are Abraham’s seed are they all children, but: “What will be called ‘your seed’ will be through Isaac.†That is, the children in the flesh are not really the children of God, but the children by the promise are counted as the seed....whom he called not only from among Jews but also from among nations, [what of it]? It is as he says also in Hosea: “Those not my people I will call ‘my people,’ and her who was not beloved ‘beloved’; and in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’†(Rom 9:6-8, 24-26 ) Thus, others, from among the Gentile nations, were selected to complete the number of the "seed of Abraham", this new "nation." And concerning 1 John 3:8, Jesus was made manifest to "break up the works of the Devil". But how will he do this ? On the night before his death, Jesus instituted a "new covenant" for a kingdom.(Luke 22:20,29) And of what did Jesus say that he was the "chief cornerstone"? (Matt 21:42 ) God's kingdom.(verse 43 ) Thus, the apostle Peter wrote: "Coming to him as to a living stone (Jesus Christ), rejected, it is true, by men, but chosen, precious, with God, you yourselves also as living stones are being built up a spiritual house for the purpose of a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." (1 Pet 2:4,5 ) Hence, along with Jesus Christ, those who make up this "kingdom of priests and a holy nation", are "living stones", and are chosen "out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation", to form the "kingdom", this heavenly government.(Rev 5:9,10 ) And why was this "kingdom" conceived ? Daniel 2:44 says that "the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite." Therefore, God's kingdom will remove all traces of human rulerships, wickedness, and the deadening effects of Adamic sin, yes all the "works of the Devil".(Prov 2:20,21; Rev 21:3,4 ) |

Why are you asking me this question ? Are you not aware that wickedness began with Jehovah God's archenemy, Satan. As James wrote: "When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.†For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death."(James 1:13-15 ) Thus, this wicked angel, by allowing distorted thinking to over take him, eventually seduced Eve, whereby Adam followed her in this rebellious course.(2 Cor 11:3 ) This course of action has led to all of imperfect mankind being condemned to death.(Rom 5:12 ) Jesus identified that the angel that became Satan, was among the angels loyal to God before his defection, for he said: "That one was a manslayer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth, because truth is not in him.†(John 8:44 ) However, Jehovah God, immediately upon Adam's violating God's command to not eat from the "tree of knowledge of good and bad", made arrangements to undo this "damage".(Gen 2:16,17 ) He purposed that a "seed" would come forth from the "woman" to ' bruise Satan in the head '.(Gen 3:15; Rev 12:9 ) This "woman" was not Eve, for she had proved disobedient along with her husband Adam. Rather, this "woman" is spoken of again some 4000 years later, at Revelation 12. The primary "seed" of this "woman", Jesus Christ, became the "chief cornerstone" of God's kingdom. There is a selection of others, a secondary "seed", who also are chosen to make up this "kingdom".(Matt 21:43 ) Hence, this "kingdom" is designed to "break up the works of the Devil."(1 John 3:8 ) Therefore, the day is coming when "evil" or wickedness will be no more, for David was inspired to write: "And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more. But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, and they will find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."(Psalms 37:10,11 ) Isaiah furthermore wrote of this worldwide peace, with even the animals, saying: "They will not do any harm or cause any ruin in all my holy mountain; because the earth will certainly be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah as the waters are covering the very sea."(Isaiah 11:9 ) | ||||||
