1 | Sir Pent and GeneralWas, notice please. | Bible general Archive 1 | GeneralWAS | 14571
Sir Pent and Bill Mc, I find this fascinating, though not peculiar. First of all, I do not know Bill Mc, we are not the same person. Furthemore, I have not read any of his posts to date, though I am encouraged to do so now, especially the one to which you refer if I can find it. Also, I have not heard of, and hence not read anything by Fowler. The ideas I stated came from my own personal study and gleanings from the Scriptures. It does not surprise me, however, that the interpretations are similar, even remarkably so, to others. After all, the interpretation of the scripture is a work of the Holy Spirit. Honest and spirit-led study should lead men of God to the same truths, those which God intended in His Word. Your post encourages me that I did not misinterpret what He led me to. Thanks. |

Ray, Still not sure what you are looking for. Is there a particualr posting you want me to look at? If so, please point me to it. What is the subject you refer to with the phrase "the gift of God". Scripture uses this phrase to speak of eternal life (Romans 6:23) as well as the faith it takes to be saved (Eph 2:8)? Is there something else you have in mind? I did a quick search on your name and came up with over 10 pages of hits, so I did not try to look through them all. |

Ray, Not sure what you mean by "joining you", or what you want to discuss or even what you mean by "the gift of God". If you post something, I will be glad to give it careful, prayerful and studied consideration as time allows. |

Please feel free to use whatever you like. Much of the material in there is based on R.C. Sproul's book, "Chosen By God". It is an excellent resource. He is one of my favorite authors and theologians. It must have been a blessing to have been pastored by him.

I said to be careful, not ignorant. The true student of the Word of God wants to see it in it's completeness and this takes careful study and a lot of time. As you stated, such a study gives the BIG picture of who God is, who we are and who does what in salvation. It is an eye-opener and should be pursued, but it should be done slowly and prayerfully. As to your statement of free will, this is true, to some extent. We are free to choose that which we have the ability and desire to choose. Choosing Christ is not within either our ability or desire until we are born again, and that is solely a work of God. As to your comment about being removed from the Book of Life, your interpretation of Exodus 32:33 is incorrect. God is speaking about his revelation to Moses at this point, the history from Genesis on to that day. It is not a reference to the Book of Life in Revelation. We cannot lose our salvation. I can show you dozens of verses which prove this beyond a shadow of a doubt. In fact, the very study of predestination and election leads to this conclusion as well. |

I didn't always understand it either. It used to make me think of God as harsh. The problem was I was thinking of God as way too small and my sinfulness as way too little. All I recommmend you do is go through it a little at a time. Keep your heart open to the Spirit of God, and let the Scripture speak for itself. You may just find, as I did, that God cannot be kept in a box. He is bigger than I ever dreamed, and his mercy and grace mean far more to me than I ever imagined. Don't rush and enjoy the discovery. Feel free to ask any questions either here or via e-mail.
