1 | Evidence of holy spirit in a Christian? | 2 Tim 1:14 | FightingForTheChurch | 104590 | ||
Hello, Ray. Thanks for answering. I think what I meant was the Spirit of wisdom (lowercase wisdom)comes through the empowerment of the Spirit. Thats what I was meaning. Other examples to back this up are people like Micah when he says in Micah 3:8 "But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, to Israel his sin." and also Samson in Judges 14:6 "The Spirit of the LORD came upon him in power so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat." Samson was given supernatural strength when the Spirit came upon him, and the same Spirit came upon Micah so that he could declare to Israel their transgressions. Micah was not given strength, and Samson was not given the power to declare Israel's sin. Yeah, I think we agree on everything else you mentioned in your last note! This has challenged me to really get the gears turning! Thanks Ray! In Christ, Eli PS- I read your profile and I understand you have prostrate cancer? I will be praying for you! I believe that the Lord can heal you as he healed people in the past!" (Acts 3:16, Acts 4:22, Proverbs 3:5) |

Thank you very much Ray for answering to my note, I am thankful for your encouraging words. I'll attempt to clarify those two verses that you commented on! First, Deuteronomy 34:9: I don't see the difference between the Spirit of Power and the Spirit of Wisdom, for it is one Spirit, and the gifts are the manifestation of the Spirit. 1 Corinithians 12:4 "There are different kind of gifts but the same Spirit." and verse 8 is the connection with Joshua: "To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom..." So what did Joshua receive? A seperate Spirit of Wisdom? Is there a Spirit of Wisdom that I am unaware of? It is the same Spirit, but everyone is given different gifts, as it is today! As it says furthur on in 1 Corinthians 12:11, "All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines." The second verse, Luke 1:41, shows a powerful example of the Spirit bearing witness with the Spirit! There was some radical connection between the two babies that made John the Baptist leap when Mary greeted Elizabeth. Even later on, John new exactly who Jesus was when a much older man stood before him at the sea of Galilee. No human words were spoken, but John immediatly recognized Jesus as the Son of God. This is an example of the Spirit testifying with the Spirit. (Romans 8:16) Also read 1 Corinthians 2:10-16. This bit of scripture makes it clear that what is revealed of God is by the Spirit and not by human understanding. John was filled with the Spirit from birth (Luke 1:15b) but Jesus was born OF the Spirit and his birth was through the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:18, Luke 1:35, Matthew 1:20) The same Spirit, a powerful reaction! I want to thank you again, Ray, for correcting me. I have a lot to learn from the Word and I hope those here who are older than I am can help me out, the Bible says for the young not to despise the wisdom of the wise, but to listen and learn. Please encourage me and correct! Mr. Aixen, I am willing to listen to you and would be very appreciative if you gave me verses and instruction on your points as well, I am not as you said unwilling to learn!:) I apologize, Ray, I am completely unaware in the area of capitilization so I can't really answer your question... but I would be happy if you could explain to me what you are saying about capitalizing the "Spirit" and "Power" etc. Thank you, hope to hear from you soon! Love in Christ, Eli |

Dear Mr. Aixen, I do appreciate you responding to my note and I apologize if I have offended anyone or said anything rashly. It is my first time on these forums and I am still learning my way! I am sorry! I do not disagree when you say that the Holy Spirit enters a new believers life upon salvation and that he/she is saved through the Spirit, and is marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit. I am drawing your attention to the endument of power in a Christian's life. We as humans are powerless to preform miracles and signs correct? But when we are empowered by the Spirit as Jesus said, we have the ability to do greater things than He! (Acts 1:8) The result of pentecost thrust the early church into a bizarre new world for all of them! Simple fishermen and farmers found themselves healing sicknesses and casting out demons in Jesus name! The teachers of the law where shocked when they saw uneducated men so fearless and knowledgable in Acts 4:13. I have to disagree with you when you say that the days of the early church or set apart from our present day. I find no scriptures to support the claim that the laying on of hands was for that specific time, and that the power of the Spirit was only given to the early church. If we are to say that those days are gone and we live in a new era of the Spirit where the Power is not poured out then we are not living in the kingdom of God, "for the kingdom of God is not of talk but of Power! 1 Corinthians 4:20" Actually, I have been a witness to the same experiences today that were then! I seen people become full of the power of the Spirit when others had laid hands on them, and I myself have recieved the Baptism of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands. For me to say that it does not happen today would be denying what God has done for me and I would not dare to do that! And to go on further, I also have laid my hands on other believers and they have been filled with the Holy Spirit in a dramatic way! It is important that we don't convince ourselves of another way of ministering, because Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2:4 that "his teachings were not with wise and pursuasive words but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that faith may not rest on the wisdom of man, but on God's power!" Halleluia! (Read Acts 4:33) Again, I apologize for causing a dispute but this is something laid on my heart and I must let it out. I understand this thread was about the evidence of the Spirit, so you those who are interested read Acts 2 on the day of pentecost, Acts 10 at Cornelius's house, and Acts 19 on the road to Ephusus. You will see what happens to the believers when they are Baptized in the Holy Spirit. The Spirit then enables them to do things they could not do before. (Acts 2:4) Please explore this and ask God do reveal the truth of this subject to you. Grace and peace in Christ, Eli |

Hello, my name is Eli and I am fellow believer in Jesus Christ! I'm 18 years old and I was looking for an internet bible forum and that's why I'm here. I was just looking through the posts on my first day here and I fell upon this thread. I do have something to add here if you don't mind... please don't look down on me because of my age, for it is the spirit within a man that speaks! I apologize because I don't know your names... but I noticed that you mentioned that the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is automatic when a person becomes a Christian. I have to raise the point that in the Bible this is not true, because if you read in Acts the apostles were laying their hands on Christians in order for the Holy Spirit to come upon them. Jesus himself breathed the Holy Spirit UPON his disciples in John 20:22. And in Acts 8:14-17 we see probably the most clearest picture of the Holy Spirit being received through the laying on of the hands. Also in Acts 9:17-19 Paul himself receives the Holy Spirit when Ananias lays his hands on him via instruction of Jesus Christ! And later Paul lays his hands on a group of Christians he meets on the road and they are filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:1-6) Even as far back as Deuteronomy 34:9 we see the Holy Spirit being received when Moses lays his hands on Joshua. This process was specifically instructed by God if you read Numbers 27:18-22. But we must understand that it is not necessarily the Holy Spirit that is being received in all these verses but the "Empowerment" of the Spirit. As it says in Romans 8:9-11, it says that if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he does not belong to Christ... so we do receive the Spirit upon our salvation, but it goes on to speak of another spirit... "the Spirit that raises Christ from the dead". NOW we are not talking about the Spirit of Christ but the Spirit of Power! The same Spirit that was prayed into Joshua by Moses and Paul by Ananias! (Read Luke 24:49 and Acts 1:8) This is called the "Baptism of the Holy Spirit!" And if you would like more clarity, even Jesus received the empowerment of Spirit when the dove came upon him! For he was God in the flesh, and even in the womb he was full of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:41)! Once Jesus was baptized and the dove descended we see he now has the power to begin his ministry which he didn't have before. Now full of the Spirit, he can fully operate in the Spirit, being empowered and guided by the Spirit. See Matthew 4:1, Luke 4:1, and Luke 4:14. The exact same thing happens to the apostles in Acts, after Pentecost are not "full of the Spirit" and are supernaturally empowered to do the work of the Lord! (Acts 4:8, Acts 7:55, Acts 13:9, Acts 20:22) So it is clear that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, or the empowerment of the Spirit, are vital in the role of our Christian lives, for then we are able to live according to the Spirit, and walk in Spirit and in truth, being empowered to do the work of the Lord! And as shown in the Bible, the baptism of the Holy Spirit is received through the laying on of hands! It is even listed as an elementary teaching alongside salvation in Hewbrews 6:1-2! But why? Because the Lord loves to use PEOPLE to do his work. Yes the Lord could pour the Spirit of Power on us without the laying on of hands, but throughout the Bible we see that God uses people to carry out the work. God could easily have slain Goliath but instead he chose to use David to do it, and he could easily have brought the walls of Jericho down with one word, but he chose to use His people to do the task. And the reason is to show his people his awesome power, to build our faith, and to get us involved! Isn't it exciting that the Lord wants to empower us to do even greater things than He did?! (John 14:12, Mark 16:15-18) THIS is exciting Christianity! THIS is what we all are called to! I hope this was helpful and encouraging to everyone who reads it! I was brief and there are much more verses I could have given but I feel that the Lord has told me what to say and nothing more. If you want to continue to talk about this feel free to email me at e_brayley@hotmail.com! I would love to talk and go more indepth on this subject! Your brother in Christ, Eli |
