5 | Disease or Bad Personal Choice?? | Bible general Archive 1 | prazn | 86914
1 John 4:8 tells us that "...God is love." John 14:6 tells us that God (Jesus) is the Truth. Since God is love, "God" (Love) rejoices in Truth. And, since God is Truth; God rejoices in His Truth (Jesus). Hope this helps. |

Sorry Angelightboy, I hadn't read the previous posts and didn't know what I was getting into the middle of. Essentially, sin is our wanting to live our lives independent of our Creator. The symptoms of sin are homosexuality, murder, lying, cheating, stealing, etc. God is love. Jesus is the truth. God's Word tells us that when we confess our sins, the Lord is faithful to cleanse us of our sins and to deliver us from all unrighteousness. Jesus (the Truth) tells us to take His yoke upon us...for His yoke is easy and His burden is light. So, when we confess our sins, the Lord will cleanse us. When we accept the work of Christ on the cross (He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him), He lifts our burdens from us and delivers us from our sinful ways. These are but a few of His promises to those of us who believe Him. |

I haven't said that same sex marriage is OK. Sin, however manifested in the life of a believer, is NOT OK! What I support is any individual who seeks relationship with our Lord. The Lord is the only One who can judge the human heart and the Lord is the only One who can change the condition of the human heart as it is yielded to His perfect will.
9 | speaking in tongues | NT general Archive 1 | prazn | 121986
In his epistle to the church at Corinth, the Apostle Paul makes it clear that speaking in tongues are : 1) a means by which man communicates to God; 1 Cor 14:2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. 2) a means by which the spirit of a man prays to God; 1 Cor 14:14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 3) a means by which the spirit of the individual is edified (i.e., built up); 1 Cor 14:4 One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; 4) another Spiritual gift for which present-day believers should thank the Lord. 1 Cor 14:18 I thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all; blessings! prazn |

10 | speaking in tongues | NT general Archive 1 | prazn | 122034
Ken John, There are many (thousands, if not millions) of churches in existence, around this world, today whose congregants speak in tongues. The Holy Spirit still gifts certain children of God to speak in tongues. When one speaks in tongues he, or she, is speaking to God with his spirit. The gift does nothing to edify the church (unless interpreted), but builds up the spirit of the one speaking. You many want to consider visiting a Pentecostal/Apostolic church sometime soon!?! blessings! prazn |

11 | Must Christians keep the Sabbath today? | Ex 20:8 | prazn | 86110
The following scriptures may shed some light for you: Rom 3:19-20 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. Rom 7:4 Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 1 Tim 1:8-9 But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane Heb 10:1 For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near. Rom 8:1-4 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. |

13 | Parallels? | Ps 119:1 | prazn | 86216
Amen! Phil 3:7 But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Phil 3:8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, Phil 3:9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, Phil 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; Phil 3:11 in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Phil 3:12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Phil 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, Phil 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 17 | LET US HEED TO THE CALL | Matt 22:14 | prazn | 86055
What has been revealed to me about Matt 22:14 is that many are called to salvation, but few are chosen to follow our Lord (forsaking the way of the world, and even our own lives, for the sake of furthering the gospel of Jesus Christ). Notice that throughout the New Testament, the Lord saved those (the many) who professed their belief in Him. However, the Lord only chose the original 12 disciples (or apostles) to forsake their lives and follow Him. And, of the 12, only 3 (Peter, James and John) were permitted deeper revelation knowledge of the person of Christ. Were the multitude of people whom the Lord granted spiritual healing and restoration any less saved than the apostles? No. We'll see them in heaven right along with the apostles and the rest who are chosen to follow our Lord and to serve Him. Stay blessed! |

19 | Jesus' advocacy towards poor | Mark 12:43 | prazn | 85320
There are different types of "poverty". Not only is there financial poverty, but poverty in the realm of the soul and/or the spirit. In Luke 7:22, Jesus says to John the Baptist's disciples, "Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM." With this statement, our Lord is obviously speaking about spiritual poverty. Notice that He didn't say, "the poor have been fed" or that "the poor have been given money with which to buy food." Similarly, in 2 Corinthians 8:9, Paul writes: "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich." Our Lord was not financially wealthy when He walked on the earth (in fact, the Bible states that the women who followed Him provided financial support for Jesus and His male disciples). Consequently, the above verse is a reference to Jesus' spiritual poverty when He was forsaken by God the Father as He was dying on the cross. Through His death, we who believe on Him have been made spiritually wealthy. Jesus characterized the widow's contribution as being "more" than all other contributions to the temple or synagogue treasury. This may be because the widow was financially poor, but spiritually wealthy in that her contribution was motivated by her faith and obedience to Almighty God. It's easy to give to a ministry when you are wealthy, but not so easy to give when you're not wealthy. A person who gives out of their poverty is not expecting an earthly reward. "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all... things will be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33) |

20 | Scriptural basis for your opinions | Luke 16:23 | prazn | 86111
I'm sorry, Tim. I didn't specify which note of yours I was referring to; you've written quite a few (glory to God!). Please provide the scriptural basis for the opinions that you expressed in your previous note, for the edification of those of us who are not as knowledgeable about the scriptures, as you appear to be (see below): Note: Greetings Phil! It has long been a common tactic for those who reject the teaching that the dead are aware to turn the story of Lazarus and the rich man into a parable. But, as I've asked several individuals over the last few days, where in Scripture is it identified as such? Of course, the answer is nowhere. So, you are operating on an assumption that this must be a parable. The only reason being that it disagrees with your belief about death. I accept it as the text presents it - an historical account of two real people. Now, on to your questions my friend! 1) What is the second death? Rev. 20:15 answers this question: "The lake of fire is the second death." The second death is the final judgement of the wicked. 2) Do I believe in an immortal soul? If by this question you mean, "Do I believe that once a person has been born, that their essence from that point on will continue to exist even after death" - the answer is "Yes". Man is not eternal as God is, but man will continue to exist either in the presence of God or eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire. 3) Living soul? Your analogy is interesting, but fails to consider that Scripture says we have soul, spirit, and body. I have always leaned toward a similar understanding as you, that man is a composite unity of body and spirit. I think of it in terms of man being a soul, not having a soul. However, I see the breath of life as being our spirit. Just as the body existed prior to the spirit entering it, it is also possible that the spirit can exist apart from the body. This is where your analogy falls apart. It does not consider the spiritual part of man at all, only the natural. 4) Sleep? I believe that 'sleep' is a euphemism for death. I don't take the term to be literal. It has long been the case that people don't like to say that someone died. So, we come up with ways to say it without really saying it. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
