1 | What exactly must a person to be saved? | Bible general Archive 1 | inhisname | 79512
"Be diligent to present yourself approved..." How can you say this? Romans 10 verse 8-10 doesn't say you have to study, I don't think. Philippians 2 verse 13 says God does it all. Just let the Spirit teach you. That's what the Holy Spirit does. Don't have to study. Otherwise what's the baptism in the Holy Spirit for? Romans 10:9,10 doesn't say a thing about studying the Bible. "Not of works that any should boastt". inhisname |

Oh, I thought before the Cross was Old Testament. But maybe you know something else. Hebrews 9 shows the Old in force until the Cross. About the ruler, he wanted to go to heaven but walked away sad. Was that because he did not obey Jesus? You quote passages of works and shouldn't. All that matters is faith and what is said. The jailer didn't have to do a thing but believe. I want you to be careful not to emphasize works. If a person does the sins you reference then that is not them because God won't let the sanctified do those things. No true Christian will lie, cheat, steal, murder, commit adultery. Because their nature is not the old nature. A Christian who does such things is obviously not a Christian and has never been a Christian. Don't you agree? You talk that faith must do works to be genuine, but I was saved by a non-genuine faith? Forbid it that a working faith be needed. If I need to obey, God would make me. I just have faith which God gave me. I did nothing for salvation. So why tell people to obey? That takes the glory from God. Do you not agree that Romans 10:9,10 are the most important verses in the Holy Scipture? You are good to respond. inhisname |

That is for everyone who doesn't get Holy Spirit baptized. When you get Holy Spirit baptized then God speaks to you and you don't have to prepare beforehand. It will come to you. Everyone got Holy Spirit baptized in Acts 2 and they spoke of the things of God. They did not have to study. The verse you mention is for backup just to confirm like Paul went to the Apostles just to confirm that he was speaking truth. I'm against those who preach works salvation. They always emphasize what lost man has to do. No, all that counts is what God does. And He did it all at the Cross. Does that help you?

"To be technical about it, Jesus instituted the New Covenant at the Last Supper." To be really technical, he only wrote His will during this time of his life, but it went into force at His death. Hebrews 9 veses 15-17 says, "For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. FOR A COVENANT IS VALID ONLY WHEN MEN ARE DEAD, FOR IT IS NEVER IN FORCE WHILE THE ONE WHO MADE IT LIVES." If you deny this then I've got nothing else to say to you because it is clear. About the works you like to emphasize, God does them and not man. If they come, they come because God does them. No sense trying to do them. That's human effort. If they don't come then God didn't elect that person. God is glorified in both. You like to mention what God does and leave out the Philippians 2:13 which proves my point. "Why do you think all the New Testament writers instruct Christians to obey?" Because the word obey means believe and God gives me the belief. God tells me to work and He does the work. People talk about works and baptism but you have to admit if they don't do them then God didn't want them done. He only cares about faith which He gives as a gift. But emphasizing passages about obedience puts pressure on me to do, then where is the glory to God? That's all I can write. |

imuvhim -- don't worry about it because he only misunderstands what I say. Did I say that I don't study? I think I said I don't NEED to. Study is useless according to God until you are saved. I was saved without study. Before you have Holy Spirit renewing power and knowledge the Holy Word is like pages in a foreign book---1 Corinthians 2:14. It's stupid. So salvation comes first and then the book is beautiful. But the Holy Spirit baptized are promised tongues of men and angels. Study is hard work and saving is not involved with works so it's not necessary. |

That's obvious isn't it? This is a proof text to show that man is extremely vile and dead since he was born. Man is unlike any other of His creatures being with the disposition to do only evil. This PROVES why study is not important. I think you asked about ALL SCRIPTURE? It is from God, every word, but it is useless to the unelect. This is the way it is preached. Order of salvation is like this. Lost, Holy Spirit baptized, Saved. Then if you want to study you can but it's not necessary. Holy Spirit baptism takes care of that. God does only the works that He wants. He did not make all of us to be Paul? I don't think so. Does God give me the right understanding of this passage? |

You misunderstand. A Christian is known because of his actions. So obvious is that. Does God save me before I do a work? Yes. Is salvation from first to last day by faith alone? Yes. Clearly you bark up the wrong pole. Abraham got righteousness by faith alone. Where are the works there? I think you are misunderstanding and caught. If I did the work then the glory would be to me. I don't want that. blessings inhisname |

"With all due respect?" Have I not discussed the Bible? Have I not referenced Bible? Isn't Romans 10 verse 9 the plan of God to save? Did I not say that. God does it all, do you disagree? You did not answer my question "Abraham got righteousness by faith alone. Where are the works there?" by saying "Resulting from his saving faith". That means nothing to me, maybe you can explain it better. You cannot tell me that I'm saved without a work from first to last and then start telling me it's all about works. If you now expect a disciple to obey then you expect works. My understanding of Romans is that salvation is by faith only until death. I don't think you mean to suggest different. My humble opinion is you are misunderstandin me and caught. |

You are nice to bless me, and I am a radical to some. You think my position is extreme? Maybe. You are right that the Bible uses the word obey but God is Sovereign. Don't you see that faith and works don't go together and faith without works is what saves? God makes me I don't make myself. Isn't that the idea of Him shaping the clay (Romans 9)? If I start teaching my family to work then I am telling them not to trust in God. He saves me by faith alone and by nothing else. He gives me faith and He renews me and He gives me repentance and he gives me obedience. He determined my path from the beginning. So I can't take credit and I won't. If you see me and think I am obeying I'm not. Like an invisible force field God is drawing me and controlling me. That's God. If works come then God is doing them. All I do is nothing, because God does it all. Read about the teaching of what is called election. Then you will see the truth. |

Exactly. Peter said the promise is for all Believers. They all instantly began preaching the Gospel with total recollection---Acts 2:42 is speaking of the total devotion God works in the new Christians. The Christian reads the Bible but that is God directing him. God is Sovereign. He is the author of salvation and completed the sinner's salvation at the cross. Then when He gets ready he draws the elect who is spiritually dumb until then. God matures him. I understand your point of discernment. That is necessary because we are at different places. |

Yes, works. Ephesians 2 is the passage that comes to mind. It speaks of grace, and faith, and works. Grace at the Cross. Faith at the Holy Spirit baptism. The change looks like works is God's workmanship. Responsibility to me implies personal works and that emphasis doesn't give God the glory. I do not know why so many are writing me over this because I'm giving God the glory. There are more and I don't know if I can answer all. |

Scripture? "Not of works that any should boast" You asked for Scripture and I gave it. I think we are very much alike. We both believe that a person cannot repent, do good, confess Christ, love, hope, sacrifice, etc so how do you not understand that I'm saying what you are saying. I'm not saying that Christians aren't different from sinners. Christians can't sin and they can't lose their salvation. This work of God is only possible with God's help all the way. He does it all. I answered your past post the way I did because I thought you were a believer in the Sovereign God. But now you say, "train your children to be servants of God." A true understanding of Scripture shows this is folly. God trains, God does, God moves. The unregenerate can't do anything spiritual, but the regenerate can do everything spiritual. Holy Spirit baptism brings instant salvation and knowledge through tongues and prophecy. The Bible is readable by the unregenerate but completely not understandable. But when given a new heart, the Holy Spirit did this, then reading brings understanding. Suddenly, miraculously, you start confessing and changing. blessings inhisname The truly born again can't DO sin. He therefore can only DO right. God is doing that! |

You call me antinomian? Like I'm against God's law? What law do you believe in? I don't see John Piper in the Bible. I don't see Jerry Bridges in the Bible. I don't see Charles Spurgeon in the Bible. I don't see J.C. Ryle in the Bible. I don't see Westminister Catechism in the Bible. I quoted Bible and don't think I should be attacked by these people. I gave you Paul. To God be the glory. I don't need writings of man to define what I believe. blessings inhisname |

"But not until faith acts according to the Word. Again faith without works is dead. Obedience by faith is the avenue God chose to bless His people." This makes sense to one side of me but not to the other--I can't explain what I mean. But in/since faith alone is true then faith plus works can't be. If faith alone is true, works are not necessary. Maybe I'm too simple to understand your point. |

The point the other character attempts to make is that I am against God's law. Maybe I shouldn't mention Calvin. Is that what 'hmmmmmm?' means?
18 | What exactly must a person to be saved? | Bible general Archive 1 | inhisname | 79830
If theologians and authors and preachers accurately teach faith only I'll listen. But if they then teach, btw, you must do obedience, then they are contradicting. I'm different as a Christian but I'm not working. I don't need to. God does it. If it was me then it wouldn't be to God's glory, it would be to mine. I don't have faith, it is God's faith. Everything is God's. Isn't that what Ephesians 2 says? I think so. |

"God...made us alive" "raised us up with Him" "seated us with Him" God "brought near by the blood of Christ." In the Calvinistic way, I understand that God made me alive, raised me up, seated me, brought me near. Am I closer to Him? Yes. Did I do it that I should boast? No. So it looks to man like works, but isn't. Thank you for asking about my wrists. They do hurt a little bit but its more to do with the position of the mouse. |

I did not mean to say you were a fool. I'm not sinless, I just don't practice it because I can't. I've got a new heart. Do you practice sin? If so, then you may not have a new heart. Do you know what changes the heart of man? A miraculous and supernatural intervention by the Holy Spirit. It is changed. Since salvation is comes even before a single thought of goodness, then how are works now necessary? You don't believe like some that it starts with faith and ends with works? I'm sorry for sounding offensive to you. |
