1 | How close are we to end times | NT general Archive 1 | Jeff W | 139887
Hello, Let's let Jesus answer that question from the book of Matthew chapter 24. The whole chapter has to do with the difining of the "end times", but there are some particular verses that give us clues especially verse 14 the gospel of the kingdom will be preached before the end comes. The gospel has had more freedom now than ever in history. The bible is written in more languages. . . In Daniel 12:4 he is told: "But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal up the book, even to the time of the end. . ." Is the book of Daniel understood today? I believe it is. Hello, Contrary to popular belief the 70th week of Daniel 9:27 ended about 3.5 years after Jesus died. It states: "in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease". When Jesus died the sacrifice and oblation ceased. How can anyone take the last week of a 490 year prophecy which started in the 5th century b.c. and put it into the future? even with my own reasoning, which is nothing without the Holy Spirit, I can add time spans. The going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem was given by Artaxerxes around 450 b.c.and if you add 490 years onto that date you will come to right around the time Jesus was crucified. This is simple math. The commentaries, and footnotes in many study bibles are not inspired by God. Although they are sometimes good references. But, so many people rely on commentary that they don't study the Word of God for themselves and let the Holy Spirit reveal the truth. God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello There are signs of the times which are spelled out very clearly in Matthew 24. The most obvious is where Jesus tells us that the gospel will be preached and then the end shall come verse 14. In verse 3 the disciples ask Jesus when will be the end of the world. Jesus gives us many clues as to when the time of the end will be, or even when He is at the door. I believe we were given these clues so we can get moved by seeing these things coming to pass, and desire to warn others. False Christs are arising, wars and rumors of wars like never before. If you download "Operation Vampire Killer", written by Jack Mclamb a retired Arizona police officer, you will know how close we are to the time of great tribulation spoken of in verse 21. Hello CDBJ, I agree with you. The only way the gospel can be preached to all the world is by the power of the Holy Spirit. Look at all the televangelists. There are many out just for filthy lucre, but there are some that are sincerely preacheing the gospel of Jesus Christ in truth. Compare this effort with just on day of preaching on the day of pentecost, wow!!! Did the apostles have sattelite TV, or radio stations, or even a P.A. system? All our human efforts are nothing. Are we seeing many flocking to Christ today? I see many flocking to the churches, I'm not judging, but where is the primitive Godliness displayed by the apostles today? How many of us, me included, are willing to toatlly give our lives to Jesus and let Him pour out His Spirit with that kind of power? Yes Rev 14:6-12 is very pertinant for us today. What is an angel? An angel is a messenger. We are the three angels of Rev 14:6-12. Who else is going to preach the gospel. God could make apostles out of rocks, but with His infinite wisdom, and love He chose us to finish the job. We are not waiting on Him to come, He is waiting for us to finish the job, and until we give our WHOLE heart to Him I don't believe He will trust us with the pentecostal power. God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello Again lets let Jesus answer this as we read the whole verse 29 which mentions the sun shall be darkened, the stars shall fall from heaven. . .then shall appear the Son of man in the clouds, all the tribes of the earth mourn. He sends His angels with a sound of a great trumpet. I will ask you: which tribulation is this. I believe there is only one tribulation and Jesus mentions it here. I take the words of Jesus seriously, and literally. Nowhere do I read about any othere tribulation periods. God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello My opinion of what the end times is, is the time right before the Lord comes to take us home. I cannot give any days or dates. But I do know, from studying the Word of God that we are in that time. God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello The church has always had persecution, and today it is not very opressive like during the reformation, or the times of the disciples. We do not know what persecution nor tribulation is! Especially in the USA. In Russia, Romania, Africa, East Germany, these dear people of God have been through much persecution, but the tribulation period hasn't even begun yet, like Daniel writes in 12:1 a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation, and Jesus seconds that motion in matthew 24:21. But in Daniel it gives us a time frame When Michael stands up, whenever that might be but it seems to be right befor Jesus comes. God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello, Look at Daniel 12:1 again and you will see a strange thing takes place. Michael the archangel satnds up, This is highly significant in regards to a time frame. When a king or a monarch stands up from the throne, especially in such a conspicuous manner something major happens, a war, or some kind of final judgement was about to take place. Also Michael stands for the children of God's people. . . isn't that God's church? This is definitely an end time prophecy and to suppose that the church differs from God's people, well I don't know. Hello, I have been looking all over for this post. I'm not very knowlegable in this forum yet. Check out this verse again: "and thy people shall be delivered, everyone that shall be found written in the book." Are the Jews the only ones who are found written in the book? God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello Edb I do believe you are one of His people, I know I am. I also know that all those who are walking in Christ's righteousness will be found written in the book. To base the pre-trib rapture on this is pretty slim, especially with all the proof pointing to post trib. God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello Mark, I do not believe that this is a question of what I believe nor of what anyone else believes. This is a matter of what the bible clearly states. If you notice in all the popular rapture verses: 1 Thess 4:1-17, and 1 Cor 15:51-52, and also Matthew 24:29-31 clearly define a certain timeframe: at the last trump. The trumpet shall sound. This is a definite clue as to when the "rapture" will happen. This is from the bible only, not me, nor commentary. This is elementary. The only reason we are told to watch and be READY is because anything can happen to us at any time. This is not evidence of some sneaky thing happening. Besides those who are in Christ will not be overtaken as a thief 2 Thess 5:4. Let's stick with the bible, and let the Holy Spirit reveal the truth to our hearts. God Bless you Jeff W |

14 | the Son of man is Lord of the sabbath | Ex 20:10 | Jeff W | 138214
Hello, Amen brother, We should always lift up Jesus 24/7. But this is not what the forth commandment is about. We are told by God himself to set apart one day per week for Him. Yes we are to be fully persuaded in our minds about everything we do, but if God tells me to keep THE seventh day holy I will. This is not any day of the week, we know that the seventh day is the day before the first day in which Jesus resurrected. Many are quick to admit that easter falls on SUNday, and every week many worship God on the day that commemorates the resurrection. BUT when it comes to what day is the sabbath more than many become purposefully ignorant, THE seventh day is obviously the last day of the week and falls on the day before the first day, and this is the day that God chose for us to set appart for Him. I have been keeping the sabbath holy (most of the time) for many years, and it is such a blessing to look forward to during a hectic week, God's rest day. Happy Sabbath God bless you Jeff W |

15 | Why is the Sabbath now Sunday? | Ex 20:10 | Jeff W | 138216
Hello, I would like to take a moment to thoroughly respond to this post little by little. First you state that the old testament regulations regarding the sabbath are ceremonial, not moral. I agree with you because the regulations which the Jews put on the sabbath made it such a burden which drove people away from God. All through Ezekiel, and most of the prophets God says that the jews have profaned His sabbath, and by adding manmade regulations they did just that, but God's seventh day sabbath was given to man by God Himself. Many want to use Colossians 2:14-17 to support the thought that the commandments, especially the forth have been "nailed to the cross". But when we breakdown what Paul writes here we find something quite different. "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances. . ." what are ordinances? Is the constitution of the united states ordinances? The constitution is the law of the land, the bill of rights are ammendments to the constitution, these are the ordinances. Just as God's TEN commandments are His unchangeable, immutable, written with His own finger in stone laws, not ordinances. Jesus stated, quoting from Isaiah 29:13, ". . .teaching for doctrine the commandments of men." The jews were guilty of this forever. They tried to turn God's law into mans traditions, forcing all to obey their ordinances, and yet hiding the truth from the honest seeker. This is one of the reasons Jesus came, to show us how to keep the moral law. When you look at Col 2:16 it uses sabbath in the plural. During the time of the feast days all the feast days were called sabbath dayS. In Leviticus 23 we read about many of these sabbath feast days. Also in Leviticus 16 we are told about the day of attonement sabbath. These are the shadows that Paul writes about in Colossians. AAMOF the meat, and drink refered to in this verse is meat and drink offerings that have been polluted. I ASK ALL; Who was the TEN commandments given to? Was Abraham a Jew? Was Moses a Jew? Abraham, who was given the new covenant while he was uncircumcised, was a Babylonian from Ur of the Chaldeas. Moses was a Hebrew born and raised in Egypt. To say that the TEN commandments were given to the Jews, well, that just doesn't add up. There were no Jews at Mount Sinai. If you read Ezekiel 20:20 closely it does not mention the jews, it's talking about His people, aren't we His people today. The new testament does not command anyone to observe the sabbath, but there are many examples of sabbath keeping throughout, especially the book of Acts. AAMOF the sabbath commandment is mentioned more than any other commandment in the new testament. To say that the apostles were just keeping the sabbath because they were accustumed to it but after they all died the SUNday started to be recognized for some reason or another, this does not add up either, because we read in Hebrews 4:8 "For if Jesus had given them rest, then would He not afterward have spoken of another day." There are many worship services in the book of Acts, but the apostles never had a place to worship, their church was wherever people were gathered in Jesus name. They worshipped on beaches, by rivers, in houses, etc. Let's take a look at Acts 20 where Eutychus fell from the church. First off, what time does it tell us when Paul was preaching? One ths first day of the week, he preached until midnight, then Eutychus fell, then he preached until the break of day. When does the the first day of the week start? Back then, as should be today, the days started at sundown, so the first day of the week started at sundown on sabbath, and to preach to someone does that tell us that he was keeping a certain day holy? God's Commandment is explicit, it tells us to keep THE seventh day holy. I have bible study, and preach on any day, but the sabbath is the Lord's day, set apart for HIM. As for keeping the sabbath before sinai, well, even the commandments were kept by the Israelights before sinai. Please read Exodus 16, especially verses 28-29. When the apostles met to write the letter to recomend what laws to obey, you will notice these are just the cermonial laws which they imposed on the Gentiles. The letter didn't tell them not to kill, or steal either. In Galatians 4 we must remember who Paul is writing this to. These Gentiles had a form of worship, and they did observe days, and weeks, and months, and years. Not necessarily the sabbath. Romans 14 does not even mention anything about keeping anything holy. Romans 14 tells us that some days we will be happy and some days we won't. It tells us that we all regard days differently, let us all be persuaded in our own minds. AAMOF I am not trying to persuade anyone, all I can do is share what the Lord has laid on my heart, and I thank you all for the priviledge. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath! Consequently the Sabbath is the Lord's day. Happy Sabbath God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello Today, I am not a Jew but I am an Israelite. I am of Israel spiritually not physically. What I wrote was that the commandments werre not given to the Jews like many believe and teach. The Israelites are the people of God today. All throughout Pauls writings we read verses like this: ". . .they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: neither because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children. . ." Romans 9:6-7 KJV. Check out Romans 2:28 or Galatians 3:16. Praise God for this forum. God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello, From these verse where does one get all the ideas that Israel is the nation that will be doing all the things that are supposed to happen. The temple being destroyed, and rebuilt. The seven year "tribulation" period. The anti-christ (counterfeit)? I read more about Babylon in Revelation than any other kingdom. God Bless you Jeff W |

18 | Where will they be "taken" to? | Luke 17:36 | Jeff W | 139932
Hello, Praise the Lord brother. There are many who will say that these are taken to heaven to prove the pre-trib position. But you hit the nail on the head. Those who are taken are taken to perdition. In fact in Revelaiton 19:20 John uses the word "taken" to describe the beast being "taken" to the bottomless pit KJV. These are not taken to heaven, but to where the eagles are gathered together, where the dead carcasses are gathered during and after armageddon. God Bless you Jeff W |

Hello, I appreciate all the studies and commentaries that are out there, but I try to limit my studies to the Word of God only. Sure sometimes I might use strongs, or a bible dictionary, but I have skimmed through many commentaries, and foind that they are the easiest way to take our focus off the simplicity of the gospel as brought to us by oue Great Example Jesus. His simplicity is so profound that even a child can understand His Word. I don't condemn anyone for wanting to move along in their studies, but I would like to encourage all who use commentaries to be careful to not overwrite God's word with them. God Bless you Jeff W |
