Forgive me. I am new here, but was not Christ's work on the cross sufficient for the forgiveness of sins...once for all? Hebrews 9:26

Yes, which is why I am confused by your previous posts. Why would one have to ask for what they already have?

So, you are basically hanging your hat on 1 John 1:9. In light of the fact that Christ's sacrifice was accepted as payment in full, what is there left for Him to do? Is he supposed to die all over again? 1 John 1:9 is not a believers passage, it is describing our salvation experience. Don't you have to throw out a whole slew of other passages to cling to just that one? The Lords prayer does not apply, as you know, the cross is the dividing point of all things.

Are you saying that our forgiveness is dependent on us?

Surely you have read that without the shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness of sins. Does not the Word say that Christ's shed blood on the cross provides forgiveness of sins, once for all? Isn't this where we began, and indeed where is there to go from here? |

Did Christ's shed blood on the cross provide forgiveness, or is it our confession that provides forgiveness?

I believe it is unloving to call what is Gods Truth an opinion, but if there are none who are interested in truth then I will, of course, let it go. I will leave you with the thought that If you attack what you do not understand, you cannot grow in grace. Peace |

"How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?" Hebrews 10:29 In all honesty we are talking about the whole Bible here. One or two verses will hardly do it justice. |

It's not my line of reasoning, it is God's truth. We all know what the Bible says, and all have their own interpretation of what it means. But, without the illumination of the Holy Spirit, it is impossible to truly know what it means. Is this not obvious from the various meanings people derive? It's very simple...We are not forgiven because of anything we do, we are forgiven because of Christ's shed blood on the cross. There is nothing we can do to "activate" that forgiveness. It was God's initiative, He consulted no one, he did not ask if you wanted it, He simply did it. If you choose to believe that you are not forgiven, that is your choice, but it in no way changes what Jesus accomplished on the cross. You are still forgiven. This is the example set forth throughout the Old Testament, with the sacrifice of animals. Jesus is the perfect lamb, who takes away the sins of the whole world. The Father accepts His Sons sacrifice as propitiation for our sins. He places our sins behind His back never to see them again. Not because of anything we have done...but because of what His Son has done. We forgive because we are forgiven. |

Brother, I recognized you as such instantly. You know as well as I do that there will be those who will pick apart the verses you quoted, and then come back with verses that appear to contradict them. What does this accomplish? Words express thoughts. The words contained in the Holy Scriptures express the thoughts of God. The Bible is the mind of God. We can all read the words, even unbelievers, does that mean we all know the mind of God? If I use words that express the truth of God, are they any less valuable? If there is truth in them, do they not also originate with God? Is it the words that are valuable, or the thought behind the words that is valuable? Just a thought :) |

All words express thoughts. That is the purpose of words. I did not say that Scripture is All the mind of God, but it is the mind of God.

I do not claim to be wise, I am only a simple Christian who loves the truth more then I do the acclaim of men.

If you say in one breath that Christ’s crucifixation provides forgiveness, once and for all, and then in the next breath say we are forgiven only when we perform in a manner that causes us to gain God’s favor, God’s forgiveness, is this not double-mindedness? Is this not a mixing of the law and grace? Is this not exactly what Paul was addressing in the church at Galatians? “You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” Galatians 3:1-3 |

Again, we are back to where we started. There is this thing that occurred as a result of the work of Jesus Christ...it is called the New Covenant. It is called the New because it replaces the Old.
