1 | In the fullness of time! | NT general | wilyelder | 216470
God’s plan is perfect. It is the Hollywood formula that God is on a soul-winning campaign, in a contest with the devil. This formula pretends that Satan is almost as powerful as God. Anyone who believes the Hollywood formula would have to believe that God is an abysmal failure. This is obviously a flawed thesis. The sacrifices only became useless after the sacrifice of Christ (the Lamb) caused them to no longer be needed. “…For even Christ, our Passover, is sacrificed for us” (1 Corinthians 5:7). Even during the ministry of Christ, prior to his death and resurrection, there were only the 70 appointed (Luke 10:1) in addition to the 12 Christ called (Matthew 10:1). Christ also chose the 12 and one of them was “diabolos” (in the Greek), a slanderer opposing the cause of God (John 6:70). God is not in a numbers game. His emphasis is on quality of character. “For many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14). Character development takes time and experience. It cannot be created by fiat. The roughly less than 4000 years of trial and error in human behavior before the birth of Christ was not in vain. The chosen nation was not only an example of good behavior and good consequence but also an example of bad behavior and bad consequence. “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come” (1 Corinthians 10:11). It is the Son of man who does the choosing. “You have not chose me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit…” (John 15:16). However, being called and being chosen is not enough. To be a member of the Lamb’s headquarters team we must be called, chosen, and faithful. “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful” (Revelation 17:14). |

2 | Bible Version for Lutheran | Bible general Archive 4 | wilyelder | 214897
The NIV and KJV are generally good for networking and being on the same page with people around the world, because most people have one or the other. For accuracy, the Concordant Translation of the New Testament, the Aland 27 Greek/English of the New Testament and the NASB of the entire Bible offer a quality of translation that was not generally available to previous generations. If you are wanting to explore the scriptures in depth, getting to the original Hebrew and Greek, Hermeneutica Bible Works (software) is excellent, probably into its 7th version by now. |

3 | For what does the woman or harlot stand? | Rev 17:1 | wilyelder | 214858
The great whore of Revelation is the control system against God. Most scholars will declare that it is false religion. However, false religion is only one component part. If it was only false religion, the command would not be "...come out of her, my people..." (Revelation 18:4). The command would have been "come out of her, you Pagans." The ship captains would not be throwing dirt on their heads (Revelation 18:17-19), if the whore (Babylon) was only false religion. The whore is the control system against God and it is in full swing in today's world. |

4 | What is th sign of Jonah mean in Matthew | Jon 1:17 | wilyelder | 214147
The sign of Jonah is: 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the fish. "Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights" (Jonah 1:17). After being told by Christ of the unpardonable sin (Matthew 12:32), the religious leaders (scribes and Pharisees) asked Christ for a sign (Matthew 12:38). Christ made it clear that the evil and adulterous generation would receive only one sign, the sign of Jonah (Matthew 12:39). "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the fish's belly, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth" (Matthew 12:40). By this Christ indicated how long he would spend in the grave before being raised from the dead. |

5 | Which Day Is The Sabbath Day? | Bible general Archive 4 | wilyelder | 213762
The Sabbath is the seventh day of the week (Saturday). It is a memorial of creation. The Sabbath Day command is the only one of the ten commandments which starts with the word "Remember". "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made" (Genesis 2:2-3). God reminds people of it in the ten commandments. "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six day shall you labor, and do all your work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it" (Exodus 20:8-11). |

Either the interface is looping or there is a repeated question syndrome. As mentioned before by another participant, a specific question might render a more optimal response pattern.
7 | Were priests electrocuted? | 2 Tim 2:15 | wilyelder | 213460
I don't watch that network. They may have been referring to the history in which the Sadducees were appointed as high priests during the second temple period. The Sadducees were more political than religious. So when they would go into the Holy of Holies on the day of Atonement, being impure, they would be struck dead by God. So, the Pharisees, who supervised them, eventually required them to wear a bell around their neck and a rope around their ankle so that if they were struck dead they could pull them out of the Holy of Holies without getting killed themselves.
8 | more than one gospel? | 2 Tim 2:15 | wilyelder | 213459
John Nelson Darby, by his own admission, invented systematic dispensationalism in 1833, due in part to the fact that it fit into a pattern of beliefs at the time, part of which was the newly popularized pre-tribulation rapture espoused by Margaret MacDonald who claimed she had seen visions of the second and third coming of Christ. Darby visited the assembly in Scotland that accepted Margaret MacDonald's ideas. Although he was turned off by the pentecostal gymnastics of the people, he accepted MacDonald's idea of the rapture. They and other similar groups accepted his idea of dispensationalism.
9 | TRUE HEART OF WORSHIP | Bible general Archive 4 | wilyelder | 213366
A search of "true heart of worship" renders zero results. "True worship" is found in John 4:23. "But the hour comes and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth." This was in answer to the woman projecting the idea that a specific place was needed for the purpose of worship (verse 20). |

I think you meant to say eschatology. It is the study of last things. Last things include the end of your personal life and the end of the world (the end of the age of man's rule of this planet).
12 | What translation do you use? | Bible general Archive 4 | wilyelder | 213362
I use 40 translations. The best of them are the NASB for the whole Bible, the Concordant Translation of the New Testament and the Aland 27 for the Greek and English New Testament. The Brenton Septuagint is good compare to the Hebrew texts of the Old Testament. |

15 | Love for all, judge not anyone | OT general | wilyelder | 213132
Hello Kam, The answer to the overall questions revolve around separating out the 3 classes of memos given from the Eternal to Israel. There are the commandments (remember the Sabbath, for example), the judgments (death sentences, for example), and statutes (observe the Passover, for example). The fact that the Ten Commandments were written upon stone tablets give us a clue as to their importance, compared to everything else. Everything else is not written in stone. There is no incompatibility in applying the Ten Commandments to individuals, regardless of whether they are citizens of Israel or not. The passage referred to (Deuteronomy 5:17) is traditionally quoted as: "Thou shalt not kill". The word "kill" is from the Hebrew "ratsach", primarily rendered as "murder". This realization removes the supposed contradiction of people, particularly the children of Israel, killing people in wars and doing so with the blessing of God. Murder is generally the result of premeditation or personal vengeance. Killing in war is generally done for the purpose of national self-defense. The judgments were in effect when the children of Israel constituted a genuine theocracy. People in that period of time knew they would be executed for profaning the Sabbath or engaging in homosexual acts. There are no genuine theocracies in existence in today's world. Therefore there are no governments executing judgments with the blessing of God. Therefore much of the imperatives, other than the Ten Commandments, are discontinued. Just about anything that attached to the theocracy of Israel faded away when the temple curtain was ripped in half at the death of Christ, and later when the temple was destroyed. After all, no temple, no temple service, no priesthood, no sentencing, etc. Forbidding Israel to eat pork was a way of consecrating them (separating them). However, an individual today may choose to be consecrated and adopt healthy eating habits. One may choose to honor Christ in a New Testament version of the Passover. He is the Passover Lamb. Has he changed? Not really. He was considered slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8). That divine sameness is not a static state but a dynamic state in which all things become new (Revelation 21:5). Take care. -Wily |
