2 | On What Should the Sinner Focus? | Rom 1:16 | wdc | 103371
Hank, A sinner should focus on nothing but the cross of Jesus Christ. That is the only thing that can save him and take away his sin and guilt. Paul said in Rom. 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes:..." There is no mention of anything else, the gospel tells us that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and the only way to be saved is to come to Him in repentance and faith. There is no mention of water. We are baptized out of obedience to Him because we are saved. Everything the sinner finds in salvation is wrapped up in what Jesus did on the cross. The power to overcome sin comes through the cross, not water, Col. 2:13-15 "And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." Everything we have comes by the cross. I could go on and on, but you get the point. wdc |

4 | How did they do it? | Ex 7:10 | wdc | 28676
Beth7, Satan can do all kinds of things and empower his servants to do lying signs and wonders. (2 Th 2:9) Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, We are warned over and over not to be deceived, because Satan is a master of deception. Remember Satan and his servants can even transform themselves into ministers of righteousness and angels of light, 2 Cor. 11:13-15. Hope this helps. later...wdc |

5 | God dwells in the praise of his people? | Ps 48:10 | wdc | 28252
Hello Margie, Ps. 22:3 is the verse you are looking for. The KJV says God "inhabitest the praises of Israel." In the Hebrew, the word inhabitest (Strong H3427) means; properly to sit down (specifically as judge, in ambush, in quiet); by implication to dwell, to remain; causatuvely to settle, to marry. So I think it is safe to say that God dwells in our praises. later...wdc |

6 | Resurrection of 2 witnesses and Rapture? | Revelation | wdc | 14539
Retxar, There will be people that get saved during the tribulation period. I don't that the two witnesses get saved during the tribulation, they may already be saved and serving God in some capacity before the tribulation starts. Rev. 7:9-14, espicially verse 14, (13) And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?(14) And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. I believe there will be others that will come out of the tribulation as saints of God due to the witness of the 2 and also the witness of the 144,000. See also Rev. 6:9-11, I believe these people come out of the tribulation as saints of God. So there will be Christians in the tribulation. Some this is the Church, I guess that depends on your view of when the rapture takes place, pre, mid, or post. Hope this adds to the discussion. later...wdc |

7 | How is Christ the end of the law? | Rom 10:4 | wdc | 13027
Bill, Christ is the end of the law because He fulfilled the law. (Mat 5:17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. In His life, He kept all the requirements of the law the way God commanded them to be kept. In doing so, He is the end of law for righteousness, and for us. (2 Cor 5:21) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. When we come to Him in faith, the righteousness of the law is imparted to us because of what He has done in His life and on the cross. Romans 8:3-4 (3) For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:(4) That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. This is why we can be accepted by God, not by what have done or can do, but by what Jesus did, and enter that by faith. Hope this helps. later...wdc |

8 | What are the 'signs of the times'? | Matt 16:3 | wdc | 12743
Nolan, After reading many of your postings, I'm sure you know this, but here goes anyway. One answer to what are the signs of the times is found in Matthew 24:1-8. Jesus said these things would precede His coming and the end of the age. Matthew 24:1-8 (1) And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to show him the buildings of the temple.(2) And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.(3) And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?(4) And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. (5) For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.(6) And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.(7) For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (8) All these are the beginning of sorrows. There are other signs, but is a good general list. I also believe we are living in the time period Jesus foretold. later...wdc |

9 | Jesus' name baptism? | Acts 2:38 | wdc | 4753
Hello, Here is something I posted a while back to this same question. I just thought I'd put here again. Here is my thought on this subject. It is one that I have studied because I asked the same question and got the same standard answers. In Mat. 28:19 we are told this: (Mat 28:19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Then in the book of Acts, we see the Apostles baptizing people and they baptize them in Jesus name and not the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost. Using the Bible as my guide and not men's opinion nor doctrine. I have come to this understanding. Jesus is the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. It was in Jesus that God revealed Himself to mankind. Hebrews says, (Heb 1:1) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, (Heb 1:2) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (Heb 1:3) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Jesus is what we know of God. Everything we learn or understand about God we pretty much learned from or through Jesus. So I believe doing everything (Col. 3:17) in the name of Jesus is doing everything in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Remember also that John 14-16 says when He, the Spirit is come, he glorify Jesus, not God. So I see everything in Jesus bringing glory to God the Father. By the way, I believe in the trinity, but in God's wisdom, He chose to reveal Himself to us in Jesus, one man, His only begotten Son. WDC |

10 | Is anything above God's name? | OT general | wdc | 4689
If you read the KJV, it says this. (Psa 138:2) I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. 11 | Where is Plan of Salvation Found? | Isaiah | wdc | 4059
Hank, When I read your question, the first passage that came to mind was 1 Cor. 15:1-4. (1) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;(2) By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.(3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;(4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Paul here sets forth clearly and concisely the gospel that he preached. If you are speaking to a group of people that are non-Christians, most likely they are un-Churched as well and not fimiliar with Church words either. That is way I like this passage. The passage also leads to good questions they may ask or that you can lead into. Why did Jesus die or how does His death affect us? What does His burial and resurrection have to do with anything? Why according to the Scriptures? Three days? I am used to these questions because I use this passage quite often in circumstances you are refering to. You can take these questions and teach the whole Bible if you have time. later...wdc |

12 | Can religion lure us away from God? | Matt 23:13 | wdc | 4054
Hank, The best example for religion keeping someone form intimacy with God is the Pharisees. Jesus constantly cautioned them about letting the traditions they received from their fathers keep them from the truth of God. Mt. 15:1-8 is good example. (1) Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,(2) Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. (3) But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?(4) For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.(5) But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;(6) And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.(7) Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,(8) This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. Notice in this passage also that Jesus says they have made the commandment or Word of God of none effect by their traditions. This is the only place or thing in the Bible I can find that a statement like this made about it. There is nothing that can take away the power of the Word in our lives like tradition or religion. When we follow tradition or religion, we are saying the Word is no good, we need something else. If the doctrines or traditions of our Churches are not Scriptural, they are tradition, and make the Word of God of no effect. Let us be brave and go where few will dare tread today and follow the Word instead of traditions. later...wdc |

13 | How do we do the How? | Gal 5:16 | wdc | 4052
To walk in the Spirit simply means to be obedient to the Holy Spirit. (Rom 8:16) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: When the Spirit tells you to do something, do it. When He says no, don't do it. How do we know when He is telling us something. A good start are the things Charis listed in his posting. We MUST mediate on the Word and fellowship with the Father every day in prayer. The Spirit will never lead us contrary to the Word and will always lead us to bring glory to the Father in all we do. As you grow in your relationship with Him, it will become easier to hear His voice and discern His leading in your life. later...wdc |

16 | How did Noah know about clean animals? | Gen 4:5 | wdc | 2977
The Bible does not say exactly, but I think God must have told them what to sacrifice and what not to. Remember Cain's sacrifice (Gen. 4:5)that was rejected, I know there are other thoughts on this, I think I read a group of postings about this on the forum, but I am convinced that God did not except Cain's sacrifice because it was bloodless. But to answer your question, God would not ask us to do something like this and not tell us what was acceptable and what was not, so He must have told them. later...wdc |

17 | Where is the message found? | 1 John 1:9 | wdc | 2973
Lifer, let me get in on this. I want to address two things here. First 1 Jn. 1:9. This is something all Christians should do. When we sin, it hinders our fellowship with God. The meaning of confess is to agree with God. When we confess our sins to God, we are agreeing with Him that what we did or didn't do is wrong, like He says it is, and that we now agree with Him on it. All our sin was paid for on the cross, but we still have to confess our sinfulness to Him and call upon His as Savior (Rom. 10:9-10) before we can be saved. The main problem with unconfessed sin is the consequences we face here in this life and that goes farther than lost followship, you can cut off your arm, and be forgiven for it, but you want have an arm anymore. So we confess our sin to put ourselves in agreement with God and to help us see more clearly the area's of our lives we need to work and get His help. Cmpare also the teaching of Jesus to Peter in John 13:1-15, esp. verse 10. The second is the Lord's supper or communion. I think there is a bad error in our teaching here. In the context of 1 Cor. 11, Paul is pretty much scolding them about the big parties they had turned the Lord's supper into and the factions and groups that had come out of it. Remember also the problems they had the gifts of the Spirit and spiritual pride. When he tells them they are partaking in an unworthy manner, he is not talking about that they hadn't confessed every known sin, but rather the actual way they were serving the supper. Notice verse 29: (1 Cor 11:29) "For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body." Not discerning the Lord's body. The Lord's body is one, not many groups and factions, as they had split into. Also discerning the Lord's body is understanding why He died on the cross for our sins and shed His blood. We cannot come to the Lord's table on our own merit, even if we could confess every sin we had committed since the last time we confessed to Him, and we can't, we still would not be worthy to stand before Him. But when we come to the table, understanding that the only way we are worthy is because He took our sin and imparted to us His righteousness, 2 Cor. 5:21, and He secured this for us by giving Himself on the cross, then we can partake at the table in a worthy manner. I don't see any problem with confessing any sin you know of before the Lord's supper, but do not think you are worthy because you have done so. Know that you are only worthy because Christ is in you, and you stand by His blood and His righteousness. Notice also verse 31, "For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged." How do we judge ourselves-- not worthy of what He has done. But when by faith we stand "in Him", God sees us in the righteousness of Jesus, and we are then worthy in God's eyes. So let us never be remiss in confessing our sin, 1 John 1:9, but let us never forget that we can stand before God only because of what Jesus has done for us. Hope this helps. later...wdc |

18 | The reason why I'm asking this question | Genesis | wdc | 2959
The verse you are refering to is this: (Gen 2:7) And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. It does not say God put His mouth over Adam, but I don't know how else He could have done it. As for the why, I believe that man is created in God's image in part because when God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, God imparted to man His nature. When man sinned, he lost that nature, that is he died spiritually, that is why we must be born again, to recieve the Holy Spirit, or God's nature again. Compare (Gen 5:3) And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: Seth was born in Adam's image, not God's. We are all God's creation, but we are not God's children until we are born again in the image of God, receiving His Spirit. Hope this helps. later...wdc |

20 | Aren't all believers stewards? | 1 Cor 4:1 | wdc | 2041
You are right in saying all believers are stewards over His gospel. This paragarph was in my answer: In another sense, every one of us that are children of God are stewards of the mysteries of God because every one of us are to be witnesses to His saving grace on a daily basis. By a steward in an awesome responsibilty, and each of us should be careful how we handle the mysteries of God. |
