1 | How can we be sure of eternal salvation? | Phil 1:6 | twn | 24025
Tell your friend to think of his salvation experience as a birth into a family. Once you become a child of your father, you will always be a child of your father. Just as your earthly father may discipline you and chastise you for your own good, so will your heavenly father when necessary in order that you may grow in truth and knowledge. Also, ask your friend this question: "If you can do anything to save yourself, then why was it necesary for Jesus to die on the cross?" Since we can do nothing to save ourselves except to accept the free gift of salvation, we can do nothing to keep ourselves saved. As the bible says in Ephesians chapter two, we are saved "unto good works." Our good works are the result of our salavation, and not the cause for it. The motivation for our good works is our gratitude for what God has already done for us, is doing now for us, and will do for us in the future. When motivated by an attitude of gratitude rather than coercion (to save our own souls), we are truly free (and this is what the scripture means when it says the truth shall set you free). It's like having a job that you enjoy so much that it isn't really work to you. It is truly a labor of love! Since you have already shared the scripture with you friend, I will stop there. God Bless You!
