1 | isaiah 65:20 ? | Bible general Archive 1 | stokeyhk | 55977
Hi, Dan. Sorry, I may have inadvertantly prevented others from giving their understanding of this verse by posting my note. Jehovah God disciplined his people by allowing them to be besieged by the Babylonians because as Isaiah 65:2-5, 7, 11, 12, mentions they had become incorrigibly rebellious. Now turn to Lamentations to see what happened during the siege. Jeremiah said God had: "Hurled down the splendour of Israel from heaven to earth." He had "brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonor." (Lamentations 2:1-3) Then verse 21 says: "Young and old lie together in the dust of the streets." Further, "With their own hands compassionate women have cooked their own children." (Lamentations 2:20; 4:10; Deuteronomy 28:53-57) So Isaiah promised in 'newly created Jerusalem' "never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years." (Isaiah 65:20a) Notice Jehovah says: "Be glad and rejoice FOREVER in what I create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight." (Isaiah 65:18) Romans 10:20 and Revelation 21:1-5 show this applies today. (Isaiah 65:1, 17) Jerusalem today is God's kingdom. (Matthew 6:10; Hebrews 12:22, 28; Revelation 21:2) The "new heavens" refer to God's heavenly kingdom government. "Heavens" sometimes refer to governments. (Daniel 4:25, 26; Ephesians 6:12) "The new [righteous] earth" is made up initially of "the great multitude" who survive "the great tribulation." (Revelation 7:9, 14; Psalm 96:1) Revelation 21:1 reveals the timing. It says: "The first heaven and the first earth had passed away." This happens at the day of Jehovah when he destroys "ungodly men" also called "Armageddon" which is "the battle on the great day of God Almighty" against "the kings of the whole world." (2 Peter 3:7, 10, 13; Revelation 16:14, 16) What about "he who dies at a hundred [who] will be thought a mere youth; [and] he who fails to reach ["the sinner who reaches," footnote] a hundred"? Well, as you rightly reasoned, "heaven is for eternity." There are no "infants" or 'old men' in heaven, for they are "raised a spiritual body" "with immortality" no longer subject to old age and death. (Romans 5:12; 1 Corinthians 15:36, 44, 50, 53) Revelation 21:2-4 focuses on the earth, on "men." Here there will be "no more death." So obedient mankind, forming a further part of "the new earth" together with "the righteous" and the "great multitiude" will not grow old, get sick and die anymore! (Acts 24:15; Revelation 7:9) But what about the "sinner"? (Isaiah 65:20b) Four verses can help us: "Those who have done evil [after their resurrection, see Romans 6:7] will rise to be condemned" because "even in the land of uprightness" the wicked "go on doing evil." (John 5:28, 29; Isaiah 26:9, 10) What happens to these 'resurrected wicked ones'? (Acts 24:15) Isaiah 65:20 says they "will be considered accursed." Or as Revelation 20:11-15 says after "earth and sky ["the heaven," KJV] [have] fled from his presence" "the dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books [which are not opened until after Armageddon]." "If anyone's name was not written in the book of life" it would be "the second death." Compared with a 1,000 years and eternity, such ones who die "at a hundred" would "be thought a mere youth." Dan. Have you asked Jehovah's Witnesses? They released the book "Isaiah's Prophecy-Light For All Mankind" in 2001, which includes a verse-by-verse explanation of Isaiah chapter 65. If you would like me to explain it, let me know. Stokey. |

4 | Who is Jesus Christ? | John 9:24 | stokeyhk | 55697
Does everyone else in the forum agree that "OT scripture clearly teaches that there is but one God, Jehovah"? So, does this mean you don't believe the Trinity is taught in the OT? Isaiah 43:11: "I-I am Jehovah, and beside me there is no savior." Consider the context. Verse 3: "I am Jehovah you God, the Holy One of Israel your Savior." Verse 5-7: "Bring my sons from far off, and my daughters from the extremity of the earth, everyone that is called by my name." Verse 9: "Let national groups be gathered together. Who is there among them that can tell this? Or can they cause us to hear even the first things? Let them furnish their witnesses." Verse 10: "'You [Israel] are my witnesses,' is the utterance of Jehovah." So no salvation was to be found for Israel from any of these "national groups." Judges 3:9 says: "The LORD [Jehovah] raised up a saviour to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel." Isaiah 19:20: "[The LORD (Jehovah)] shall send them a saviour, a great one." Nehemiah 9:27: "[Jehovah] gavest them saviours, who saved them." From these it can be seen that Jehovah is the Source of true salvation, and he does so by raising up individual saviours. Were these individuals God? Was Othniel God? Of course not! Now let's turn to Titus. But before we do, let's see it in the light of Jude 25, NIV, which says: "To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord." So God saves by raising up Jesus. (John 3:16) Yes, both Jehovah and Jesus are saviors, just as Jehovah and Othniel were saviors. This agrees with Acts 13:23: "God raised up for Israel a Savior-Jesus." So, in the context of Isaiah 43, God was the only Source of salvation for Israel. That has always remained true. There is no other Source of salvation. From what source did the savior Jesus come? Acts 13:23 makes it clear. So when we get the complete picture form the scriptures, its not "inexplicable." By the way, just in case someone wants to equate Jehovah with Jesus using Titus 2:13, the Greek reads "of savior" and the New American Bible, for example, correctly translates it as "of the great God and of our Savior Christ Jesus." 5 | Do you yet say that Jesus was just a man | John 9:24 | stokeyhk | 55038
Ay up, Ray. Because Paul, an apostle, said he was a man! 1 Timothy 2:5 says: "There is one God and one mediator between God and men, THE MAN Christ Jesus." Now, of course, he is "a life-giving spirit." (1 Corinthians 15:45) Stokeyhk. |

6 | dead bury the dead? | NT general Archive 1 | stokeyhk | 53278
Matthew 8:21, 22 and Luke 9:58, 59 say: "Another disciple said to him, 'Lord, first let me go and bury my father.'" "He said to another man, 'Follow me.' But the man replied, 'Lord, first let me go and bury my father.' Jesus said to him, 'Let the dead bury their dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.'" Acts 5:5-7 shows that the dead were buried in some cases within three hours! So, its unlikely this man's father was already dead. It seems that he wanted to wait for him to die and then become a disciple. Jesus said that his other relatives could do this. However, this disciple was not spiritually dead; he had no time to lose in doing God's will of proclaiming God's kingdom which takes precedence over family matters (Matthew 10:34-39). Stokeyhk. |

7 | was paul married? | 1 Corinthians | stokeyhk | 52861
The only two Bible verses that really touch on the matter are 1 Corinthians 7:8 and 9:4, 5. The first one suggests Paul could have been a "widow." The second suggests Paul was unmarried at the time of his missionary journeys. Stokeyhk. |

10 | explain gen 6:3 | Genesis | stokeyhk | 51582
No. (Genesis 5:5-32) Consider the context. Verse 2 mentions the unnatural union of rebellious angels and "daughters of men." (2 Peter 2:4, 5; Jude 6) The result? Verses 4 and 5 say: "Giants in the earth" who were "mighty men" and "men of renown." This caused 'the wickedness of man to be great in the earth.' Verse 11 says: "The earth was filled with violence." So God said: "I will destroy them with the earth." (Genesis 6:11, 13) But "Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD." (Genesis 6:8) Evidently, God was going to tolerate this situation for only 120 years longer! (Matthew 24:37-39; 2 Peter 3:5-13; Malachi 3:6a) Stokeyhk. |

12 | Why do you wait? | Phil 3:20 | stokeyhk | 51102
Those who have the hope of going to heaven are waiting "earnestly" for 'the transformation of their lowly bodies' to be like Jesus' glorious body. (Philippians 3:21) What body does Jesus now have? "A spiritual body." (1 Corinthians 15:42-50) When will he "change" their bodies to 'spiritual bodies'? "When he comes" and when the kingdom of God comes. (1 Corinthians 15:23, 50) Revelation 11:15-18 shows that this event would be associated with 'the nations becoming angry.' Matthew 24:7, 8 calls it 'nation rising against nation.' Acts 4:25 says: "The nations rage." These events fit the First World War onwards. (Revelation 6:2-4; 12:7-12) I'm eagerly waiting to "inherit the earth." (Matthew 5:5)Stokeyhk. |

13 | Why do you love him? | 1 Pet 1:8 | stokeyhk | 51095
1 Peter 1:10-12 tells us why they and we can love Jesus without seeing him. 'Through those who have declared the good news to us.' This was shown in John 1:45. Further, Jesus said: "If you love me, you will obey what I command. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching." (John 14:15, 24; 15:10) |

14 | With anger? | Bible general Archive 1 | stokeyhk | 50669
You might want to study Galatians 5:19-21 which shows that "fits of rage" are "acts of the sinful nature" and such persons "will not inherit the kingdom of God." However, Ephesians 4:26, 27, 31 tells us: "'In your anger do not sin': Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry" and "get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger." So, evidently, although you say this person is reading the Bible every day, maybe he's not reading and reflecting on these verses so as to control his angry actions! (See Psalm 106:32, 33; Genesis 4:5-8; 49:7; 34:7; 1 Timothy 3:3) stokeyhk. |

17 | what does it mean by chosen children? | NT general Archive 1 | stokeyhk | 50566
Matthew 22:14 says: "There are many invited, but few chosen." The entire nation of Israel was invited to be "a kingdom of priests and a holy nation." (Exodus 19:5, 6) However, this depended on obedience. Jesus indicated the response to the invitation in verses 3-6. Verse 8 explains why they were not chosen: "Those invited were not worthy." (Matthew 22:3-6, 8) They were chosen according to their response to the good news. (2 Thessalonians 2:13, 14) Stokeyhk. |

18 | How can I do Jesus will | NT general Archive 1 | stokeyhk | 50564
Macktony2000: First of all, a person can't deliver a message if he doesn't know what it is! E.g., please study the following verses: (1) Galatians 6:6 (2) Acts 18:24-26 (3) 2 Timothy 2:2 (4) 1 Timothy 2:3, 4. So, we must learn and observe Jesus teachings before we can teach others. They are contained in the Bible. Stokeyhk. |

19 | Geneology from Ezra back to Aaron? | Bible general Archive 1 | stokeyhk | 50548
The geneology of 1 Chronicles 1-9 is the most complete in the Bible. The Azariah, Amariah, Ahitub and Zadok of verses 11 and 12 are later descendants of the same mentioned in verses 7 and 8. Ezra simply refers to selected forefathers of his to prove his credentials. He, therefore, refers to the Seraiah of 1 Ch 6:14 and the Meraioth of 1 Ch 6:7. This a shortened, or telescopic geneology to serve that purpose rather than to discuss genealogies in themselves which Ezra had already done in Chronicles. However, note Paul's counsel in 1 Timothy 1:3, 4; Galatians 3:28. The Jews' family trees were destroyed in 70 A.D., having served their purpose of identifying the Messiah. So these geneologies preserved in the Bible serve to show it to be a genuinely historical account. |

20 | heaven now or later? | NT general Archive 1 | stokeyhk | 50539
1 Corinthians chapter 15 discusses the resurrection in detail. Verse 22 says: "In Christ all will be made alive." This shows that Jesus is the way to eternal life. Verses 23-26 show when. "Each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him." Verse 50 says: "Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God." Verse 51 says: "We shall not all sleep." So some of those who belong to Christ will sleep! However some will be "changed" in a flash "at the last trumpet." So, the questions are: (1) When does Jesus come? (2) When does the kingdom of God come? (Matthew 6:10; Acts 1:6; Luke 19:11, 12) and (3) When is the last trumpet? Well, they all refer to the same time period. Jesus is the king of God's kingdom and he blows the trumpet. (Luke 1:32, 33; 1 Thessalonians 4:16) The "sign" of Jesus' coming [Greek, parousia, meaning presence.] is found at Matthew chapters 24 and 25 among others. Verse 7 says: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations." All these things have been happening on an unprecented scale since the outbreak of World War 1 in the year 1914. So Jesus came in 1914 and that's when the resurrection to heaven began. All faithful followers of Jesus who died before 1914 slept in death until after 1914. Those who died after 1914 received an instantaneous resurrection "in a flash." Further, the Bible shows there is more than one resurrection. Acts 24:15 says: "There will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked." Revelation 20:6 speaks about a "first resurrection" indicating another will follow as mentioned in the same chapter, verses 12-15. All of this happens after "earth and sky fled from his presence." (Revelation 20:11) However, note Revelation 21:1. |
