1 | Can all be saved? | 1 Cor 5:5 | slide_m46 | 119284
Sandre, I think the question you have asked is one that has been debated in this forum, and throughout the history of our faith. Can EVERYONE be saved? Christ told us clearly that "I am the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me." He also stated that "No one comes to me except that my Father who sent me draws him..." This scripture illustrates, as other scripture indicates, we cannot turn toward Christ without the Father's call. All of our righteousness is "like filthy rags," and not one among us is worthy of His grace Does the Father draw ALL to Christ? Once we are drawn by the Sovereign of the Universe can we resist His drawing? Does He know, being the Omnicient Lord of All, that we will or will not accept His call? If He knows, does that mean that we then cannot alter our path? Are we predestined toward salvation or destruction? All these questions give us cause to study His word and to prayerfully ask for the Holy spirit to lead us to understanding. I personally think that there are some things that we will not know in this life. Scripture leads me personally to feel that not all are called by the Father to the Son. Our saviour said that "not one that the Father had given Him would be lost." Not even one! We also know that many are lost. Does this indicate that not all were given to Christ by Our Father? I tend to think so, but many do not. I can't envision Christ being wrong about His statement nor do I see it possible for Jesus to have NOT told us the truth! "Some are "appointed to destruction." Some "hearts are hardened," and I know that His word tells us that "the potter has the right to make of the clay one vessel for good and one for evil purposes." At the same time, I know that Our Father is a merciful loving and all powerful God. He is capable of anything that His will desires. The questions that you and I raise should not cause division among the bretheren, rather they should cause us to search His Holy Word and counsel each other in our understanding. Whether all are saved or not is His concern, not mine. My concern should be ONLY to serve Him as He calls me to, to worship Him, and to do my best to hear, understand, and do His will. God bless and keep studying, Big Al |

2 | Did God elect me? Or did I elect Him? | John 6:37 | slide_m46 | 77310
Hi Chynna, John 6:44 Christ said that no one comes to me unless my Father who sent me draws him. Read all of John and then paul's letter to Romans. Jesus said that He would lose NONE of those that the Father had given Him. I am confident that he will fulfill every promise. You are indeed in the number of those elected by God the Father before time began for salvation. I praise God for His patience and for your faith. Our God is so good! Praise His holy name. Thank you for sharing your testimony and thank you for refreshing my spirit by so doing. God bless you. |

3 | Study the Word, Calvin, or Aminian??? | John 6:65 | slide_m46 | 76699
Child, Thanks for initiating some interesting and welcomed discussion on this subject. I too am being led by the Holy spirit in the study of God's word to consider this very vexing issue. For me it all boils down to a single verse of scripture where I think the trail I am walking ends. John 6:65 where our Lord says that "For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father." I noticed that it says no one CAN come to me... If it said no one WILL come to me then I might reach a different conclusion. Of course, there is a host of other scripture that are supportive of this thought process and I am not just basing my opinion on a single verse. The remaining question then is can someone once "drawn" by the Father NOT answer His call. Can a human resist the Almighty? My guess is that we can't, but until I continue my study and back up my thoughts with scripture, I will withhold opinion/belief. The entire discussion (it's not an argument for me) does not in any way change the fact that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and I cannot be saved ANY OTHER WAY! Praise God! Many things in the Word seem almost at odds with each other, and I seem to discover more of them the more I study. My belief and hope is that I am being led by the Holy spirit to delve into the Word of God to know him more intimately, and so that He can enhance His relationship with me by leading me thus. I think about the "elect" as water in the bottom of the well, water that cannot of it's own accord traverse the sides of the well until reaching the top and release itself from the depths. However, when our Father lowers the bucket and fills it and draws it up from the depths we are exposed to the light of His creation. Further He loses not even one drop of what He intended to raise up. For those drops, pints, quarts or gallons of water left behind, my prayers still go out to Him, asking that His will be done and if it is His will to raise up more of the deep waters to be used by Him at the surface then let it be done. Additionally, I emplore Him in prayer to use me to refresh and to quench whatever or whomever thirsts at the surface, AS HE SEES FIT. Praise be to the Living God and to my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ |
