1 | the smallest bible passage | John | skccab | 214593
Shalom Emcee, Welcome to SBF!! I think the smallest Bible verse has to be John 11:35 Jesus wept. (But one that says a great deal about our Master!!) Cheri |

2 | Buddha statue in a house of a christian. | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 214355
Shalom Chumba, Our brother Beja gave you a wonderful answer and I cannot improve upon it. I can only direct you to read further on in Rom 14 to verses 22 and 23. I have always held that if one has to ask if something is wrong, then it is probably wrong for that particular person. It could be that the Spirit is trying to speak to you personally or there could be someone within your "fold" who is being harmed. Either way, the "thing" should be done away with, or you wouldn't be asking about it. :o) Cheri |

3 | This generation will not pass away.... | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 214178
Shalom Eascusa, Just my 2cents worth: I've always understood that verse to mean that the generation living when "these things" begin will not die out before the great tribulation is ushered in...:o) (This would be allowing 80-100years for a generation.) Cheri |

4 | Does Jesus die for Gentile's sins too? | Gen 18:18 | skccab | 214155
Good evening Edscusa, You have some very good answers for both of your questions - but let's connect them. Nineveh was a nation of Gemtiles. Jonah was in the belly of a big fish 3days and 3nights, then relented and preached to Nineveh. The city heard and repented, and was saved from destruction. The Master was in the belly of the earth... Gentiles have always been allowed and welcomed to be a part of God's chosen people. When they attached themselves to Israel in the wilderness and in the Land, they were never to be treated as anything less than full-fledged Israelites, never ever second-class citizens. See Romans chapters 9-11. Cheri |

5 | Reason 4 "6" Cities of Refuge? | Num 35:6 | skccab | 213942
Shalom Pattycake, I don't know of any significance in the particular number of cities, but I think I can help in the other part of your question. It was an ancient tradition to avenge the killing of a family member. This would be done by the "blood avenger." The cities were to be for refuge for accidental killings, not pre-meditated murder. The accused would find shelter within one of these cities as he awaited the verdict of the "judges" concerning the death. If pre-meditated murder he would pay with his life by the hand of the "blood avenger", there would be no refuge; if accidental (where there was no previous animosity between the two), then he would remain within the city until the death of the current high priest. If he left the confines of the city before that time, then the "blood avenger" could seek his life. (Num. 35:9-33) I pray this helps a bit, and that someone else may have an answer on the specific number of cities, that might be interesting.... Cheri |

6 | After information about the vessels. | 2 Chr 5:1 | skccab | 213913
Shalom Wymer, I don't know what kind of time you have to invest in your quest, but there is a fine Old Testament teaching website that covers the books chapter by chapter, and very often verse by verse. The link is: http://www.torahclass.com/download.html You can download, stream, or just read the text files of the teachings (there are also PDF files to supplement the audio teachings). Beginning in Exodus around week 25 (give or take) Mr. Bradford goes over in detail all the parts, vessels, utensils, different fabrics, etc. of the Wilderness Tabernacle - what they are, what they were used for, how they relate to God's Messiah... Have fun in your studies Cheri |

7 | does it say Jesus is a personal God | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 213817
Shalom Lovemylord, Well, let's see....from Gen. 1:1 to Rev. 22:21??? The very best passage that comes to mind is Rev. 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me." Can't get much more personal than that!! Cheri |

8 | Study Bible | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 213617
Shalom Fcs, I personally use a very simple bible with just center-column references. When I hit on something hard to understand, then there are the commentaries (Christian and Jewish) to be looked into. And, of course, right here on SBF, can be found great insights! There are many benefits for not having a "study" bible - one being it is much smaller and easier to carry around, the print can then be much larger while still keeping the book quite manageable. Just as when I was in college, it was cheaper to buy used textbooks but it was also too easy to get lost in the previous owner's notes rather than my own. Soooo, even though it cost me more in money, a plain new book gained me more in productive study and learning.... :o) Cheri |

9 | its a ckass excercise due sunday | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 213587
Shalom Inwright, It wasn't a controversy in "the church," it was in the Jewish community. The Jews couldn't understand how Gentiles fit into God's plan of salvation apart from physical conversion and mikvah (i.e., circumcision and water immersion). Paul's teachings appeared contradictory to the Law (it wasn't but it was somewhat contradictory to the Rabbinic interpretation of the Law) so - confusion and controversy. Read the book of Acts, and do some digging - clean, comfortable archeaology, finding nuggets and true treasure. Life is good. Have fun. Cheri |

10 | creation | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 213439
Shalom Insearchof, For the most part, most "why" questions require pure speculation...this one also. My 2cents worth is this: everything else God separated was opposites - light/dark, land/water etc. - but when He separated the waters He divided something that needed no division except to make room for man. So, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good (to Him) either (notice Rev. 21:1b). :o) Cheri |

12 | Did God bless the beasts as well | Gen 1:25 | skccab | 213300
Shalom Azure, That's an excellent question. To the 2 passages you used, they separate the different creatures: air and waters and earth. Man is more than an animal but we are "upon" the earth with the beasts, so it's quite possible that the blessing to man could spill over to anything else that walked or crept UPON the earth...?? This is just speculation, but do you think maybe He didn't bless the beasts on the earth specifically because He knew one of them would cause the havoc that took place after He had finished His work (Gen. 3:1)? Thanks for setting my brain to task....:o) Cheri |

13 | Please explain 2nd Kings 4:8-17 | 2 Kings | skccab | 213234
Shalom Nitsa, This is one of my favorite stories. I'm not sure what you don't understand and unfortunately I can't give you any deep hidden meaning to it (except maybe be kind and helpful to all cos you never know when you might be caring for one of God's angels :o) ). I pretty much take it at face value. There was a man of God, Elisha, Elijah's successor, who travelled thru the area often. A couple used to take him in when he was in town and the wife decided to make a permanent place for him to stay as he'd travel thru, a place where he could leave his things in safety. She was apparently much younger than her husband and would be left alone at his death, and in those days a widow without a son to help care for her could find herself in dire straits. Soooo, Elisha, wanting to thank her for her unwarranted hospitality, found out what she desired and needed most - a son. He was a prophet of God, his word was good - as she soon found out... I love the rest of the story too! Cheri |

14 | Bible software? | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 213176
Greetings akh, I use e-Sword, the software is free, much of the add-ons are free. It has numerous free bible versions, commentaries, etc. Some of the newer Bible versions are not free but they are very reasonable. The "search" feature will search what you're looking for according to the bible version you may have open in the program. Nave's Topical Bible is also available as a free add-on, and is ofter quite helpful in locating passages. :o) Cheri |

15 | "can you explain to me Acts 2:46-49 | Acts | skccab | 213081
Shalom Dcmartin, My bible only has to verse 47 in Acts 2...(some times they vary). I'm not sure what you don't understand, but I'll try to explain what I understand of the passage... This was the extreme infancy of the church and it was still mainly made up of Jews, just another sect of Judiasm. They continued daily in the temple with one accord - they still said the prayers 3 times a day in their local worship area (the Temple, for these spoken of), preached there the gospel that the promised Messiah had come, they took their meals with fellow believers in their different homes V. 47 they were continually praising God as He showed them favor and more and more people were added to their fellowship. If you're confused about the statement "those who were being saved" - salvation in a one time thing but a life time of attaining. Little by little, day by day, one's life changes as they follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Hope this helps Cheri |

16 | what do Isaiah 58:9-12 mean? | Isaiah | skccab | 213069
Shalom New Kid Welcome to the Forum!! Isa 58:9 Then you will call, and Adonai(the Lord) will answer; you will cry, and he will say, "Here I am." If you will remove the yoke from among you, stop false accusation and slander, Isa 58:10 generously offer food to the hungry and meet the needs of the person in trouble; then your light will rise in the darkness, and your gloom become like noon. Isa 58:11 Adonai will always guide you; he will satisfy your needs in the desert, he will renew the strength in your limbs; so that you will be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails. Isa 58:12 You will rebuild the ancient ruins, raise foundations from ages past, and be called "Repairer of broken walls, Restorer of streets to live in." Isa 58:13 "If you hold back your foot on Shabbat (the Sabbath) from pursuing your own interests on my holy day; if you call Shabbat a delight, Adonai's holy day, worth honoring; then honor it by not doing your usual things or pursuing your interests or speaking about them. Isa 58:14 If you do, you will find delight in Adonai — I will make you ride on the heights of the land and feed you with the heritage of your ancestor Ya'akov (Jacob/Israel), for the mouth of Adonai has spoken." CJB, (parentheses added for clarification) These verses are God speaking to Israel, they had not been walking in God's commands. Those who would begin to do so would be the ones who would begin bringing about the restoration of Zion as in the former days. Hope this helps. Cheri |

17 | Ananias and Sapphira paid for their sin | Acts 5:9 | skccab | 213051
Shalom Keliy, Let me say first that I'm at work and not on my own puter, so if you need scripture references, I can get to them way later tonight. But I consider the act of these two NT people goes back to the Torah where it says that once a thing is purposed in one's heart to give to God, it's His - it's not to be changed, not even for something better (and if one did change what was purposed then BOTH would belong to God). Annias and wife purposed to give ALL and then held some back - what they held back already belonged to God, it had become holy because it was His and they abused it. (I figure you probably know where this law is but if you need me to reference it, I can do so when I get home.) :o) Cheri |

18 | Why weren't Levi and Simeon punished? | Genesis | skccab | 212972
Shalom Adriana, To answer your 2nd question first - yes, indeed, God did say that a man who spilled another's blood would pay with his own blood. First, you must be aware that it was not just the 2 men, Simeon and Levi, the scenario included all of the men of military age in both of their entire tribes (which according to the number of all of Jacob's family were not very large). Simeon (the man) payed dearly, he lost the blessing of the first born which would have gone to him because of what Rueben had done (Gen. 49:5-7). That scripture also includes Levi who also lost the first born blessing which would have gone to him due to Simeon losing it. That, alone, was bad enough for them, but look at your maps in the Bible and see that Simeon only got a very small portion of land WITHIN Judah's portion, and Levi got nothing of their own. They paid. Just as an aside: the firstborn blessing was split between Judah (given the right to rule entire nation after Jacob Gen. 49:8-12) and Joseph being given the double portion (which was split between Manasseh and Ephraim) of the material wealth of Jacob (Gen. 48:5-6 and 49:22-26). Hope this helps a little bit :o) Cheri |

20 | david's Faith | OT general | skccab | 212917
Shalom Abyeapenalex, The Bible says much about David, and perhaps someone else can expound on it for you, with greater historical information - I can only offer one simple little lesson to be learned by David's life. What I get out of the Bible's history of the man, aside from the obvious connection to our Savior, is that he was very much just an average man with very many faults (with adultery and murder under his belt) - but he was a man who loved God and His commandments, a man who was quick to hear and even quicker to repent, as opposed to allowing himself the pleasure of wallowing in his 'ol woe is me' state of mind. Lesson: the devil has no weapon against you if all of your known and unknown sins have been taken care of - he's talking to a forgiven person, his bullets are all blanks! Cheri |
