2 | release of my husband to God | 1 Cor 7:13 | rachiero | 158018
If I may ask, who initiated this separation and why? My wife left me some years ago. At the time I was at best "carnal". Nominal in attendance, doing drugs here and there, and generally a confused, angry young man. No evidence of christ likeness in me. She left, because - she saw no future. Months went by, I chased the world. Then she said, I don't love you anymore, and I broke. I heard an audible voice in my car one night -"Richard, what are you doing?" I turned to the back seat where the voice seemed to come from. No one was there. In an instant I knew who it was, and what I had to do. God did a 180* turn in my life. It took a long time, but everything about me changed - for the better, everything. My ultimate place of peace came when I literally gave my wife (who by now had filed for divorce)back to God where she rightfully belonged, and I took her off the cross and put Jesus front and center in my life where he belonged. That opened one of the best periods in my life, even though she was still gone. As it turns out, through a string of incredible events, my wife and I overturned the petition for divorce 7 days before it was to be final. Now many years and three children later, I (we) can say that we know what it means to have a one flesh marriage. But from the time she left til she returned was 18 months. I trusted God and refused to beleive anything else but victory. Most important verse on marriage for men in my book is "Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave His life for her." Nothing can top that - and I have never met a woman who did not want to be loved like that, out of which she will naturally respect and honor that kind of a man, which is what a man wants. Remember, God hates divorce - and he does not like it at all when a man deals treacherously with his wife. To me the husband being spiritual head, does set the tone for the marriage. Hope that is of value to you. |

4 | Release my husband to God | 1 Cor 7:13 | rachiero | 158007
These verses apply to a woman who has an unbelieving husband. If that is your situation, then these are appropriate.
5 | Quenching the Holy Spirit? | 1 Thess 5:19 | rachiero | 158005
Literal translation of "quench" is to "suppress". We shut down the flow of the Holy Spirit by ignorance, or by design. There is so much He wants to do in us, but we limit Him through our own unbelief, or religious practice. The issue of conviction is quite different than form what the author of Thessalonians was pointing out. I think a look at Romans 8:13 provides good insight. "But if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the body.." The Holy Spirit will show you where you missed God's standard, and will also enable you to conquer that area so that you (or I) am no longer in bondage to it.
