1 | Why did Jesus condemn the Pharisees | Matt 23:13 | philemcc | 87134
John 5:41"I do not accept praise from men, 42but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. 43I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. 44How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God 45"But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. 46If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?" 2 | How to deal with death? | Matt 5:4 | philemcc | 86895
When my son died unexpectedly I found these two verses very helpful. Mat5: 4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Rom8: 28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. It was through prayer that these verses became real to me, as Jesus told the woman at the well, “The water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." Philemcc |

3 | Searching for the truth | Is 43:2 | philemcc | 85037
The Earth was not totally destroyed, the righteous were saved. 1 Peter 3 20who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge[1] of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, What this means is, as surly as the wicked will be destroyed, the righteous will be saved. 2 Peter 3 6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. These verses give the believer hope in a hopeless world Isaiah 43 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. philemcc |

4 | J. Preston Eby? | 2 Cor 11:4 | philemcc | 82983
Norrie I don't know who Mr. Eby is but I know what the Bible says!!! Rev 20: 10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever..... 15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. and then in 2 Peter 2: 1But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. philemcc |

5 | Is this verse referring to Christians | Luke 12:47 | philemcc | 81656
Jesus' answer to Peter's question by asking a question, "Who is the faithful and wise manager?" He is pointing out that all people will be held responsible for their actions (what they believe). Paul expressed this same idea in: Rom 2:6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done." 7To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. philemcc |

6 | Why is important to worship god in life? | Rom 1:17 | philemcc | 81508
God is the source of all life, to not worship Him is to deny this and separate oneself from life. ROM 1: 17For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." God's Wrath Against Mankind 18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. philemcc |

7 | When does God forgive me? | Rom 3:1 | philemcc | 79024
God has not only forgiven us… Rom 8: 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. But also peace in our heart….. Rom 5: 1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And a new birth into a living Hope…. 1 Peter 1: 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. philemcc |

8 | Belief in God? | James 2:19 | philemcc | 78991
Let me add to the discussion, these people had knowledge of and a belief in God….. Mat 7: 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' What was the difference between them and Abraham whose faith resulted in His righteousness….. Gal 3: 6Consider Abraham: "He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." philemcc |

9 | The 3 witnesses of 1 John 5:7-8? | 1 John 5:16 | philemcc | 78931
His miraculous birth – the water His miraculous death – the blood His resurrection -- the Spirit This is God’s testimony which he has given about His Son. When we believe this testimony than, this is the victory that has overcome the world. 1 John 5: 10Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. This is how I understand the meaning here philemcc |

10 | Was Jesus Rich? | Is 53:2 | philemcc | 78851
No, he told those who wanted to follow Him… Mat 8: 20Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." The profit Isaiah described Him this way… Isaiah 53: 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. philemcc |

11 | Is lifting His name related to this vs? | John 12:32 | philemcc | 78844
We are not told to do it,, God has already... Phil 2:8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! 9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, philemcc |

12 | Is "the whole world" localized/ global? | Matt 24:14 | philemcc | 78843
Searcher, why are you asking this question, you know the answer??? All men is just that, all men.... 1 Tim 2:1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time. 7And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. philemcc |

14 | Do inalienable rights include salvation? | Rom 1:24 | philemcc | 78833
According to Webster inalienable means: incapable of being alienated, surrendered, or transferred and rights means: something to which one has a just claim: as a : the power or privilege to which one is justly entitled. I would have to say no because of….. Rom 2: 1You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? 4Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? 5But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6God "will give to each person according to what he has done." philemcc |

15 | One save always saved? | Rev 3:5 | philemcc | 78788
Hear are just a few verses dealing with salvation, they have been used to both support and reject eternal salvation, it would seem some are more interested in their opinions than the truth. Psalm 111: 9 He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever- holy and awesome is his name. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. Phil 2: 12Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. 1 John2: 24See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. Heb 6: 4It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, 6if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Gal 5: 2Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 2 Pet 1: 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. 10Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, 11and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Rom 8: 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." philemcc |

16 | What does the fig tree symbolize here | Mark 11:21 | philemcc | 78716
As to what the fig tree symbolizes. All through the bible God uses trees and fruit to express His meaning…. Genesis 3:2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' " Rev 22:1Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. Matt 7:15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. John 15:11"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. In the context of Mark 11 I believe the fig tree represents the traditions of men based on the written word….. Col 2:6So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. 8See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. 9For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. philemcc |

17 | What does the fig tree symbolize here | Mark 11:21 | philemcc | 78704
When confronted with the Truth some will try to understand it, others will reject it. The world looks at the creation, which it does not understand, continuing to look for answers rather than accept the obvious. The disciples did not understand what Jesus was doing, they knew that He could say the word and change the world and yet He seemed to only exercise that power at certain times. We are the same way today. God is in control of everything, some we pray for are healed while others are not. Some are saved, some are not. I think Jesus was revealing to His disciples, and to you and I, our need for Him. Not to understand Him but to have a personal relationship with Him. If this is the condition of mankind…. Rom 3: 10 As the Scriptures say: "There is no one who is righteous, 11 no one who is wise or who worships God. 12 All have turned away from God; they have all gone wrong; no one does what is right, not even one. 13 Their words are full of deadly deceit; wicked lies roll off their tongues, and dangerous threats, like snake's poison, from their lips; 14 their speech is filled with bitter curses. 15 They are quick to hurt and kill; 16 they leave ruin and destruction wherever they go. 17 They have not known the path of peace, 18 nor have they learned reverence for God." Than this is the answer….. Acts 2: 9 We are from Parthia, Media, and Elam; from Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia; from Pontus and Asia, 10 from Phrygia and Pamphylia, from Egypt and the regions of Libya near Cyrene. Some of us are from Rome, 11 both Jews and Gentiles converted to Judaism, and some of us are from Crete and Arabia—yet all of us hear them speaking in our own languages about the great things that God has done!" 12 Amazed and confused, they kept asking each other, "What does this mean?" 13 But others made fun of the believers, saying, "These people are drunk!" philemcc |

18 | Matt 24 Is it all in the future? | Matt 24:1 | philemcc | 78368
Jesus did not say these things in Mat 24 so that we would know the when, where and the who. These are words of encouragement pointing out that He, God, is in charge of this world and things will go just like He says. We must be careful not to get so involved with His words that we don’t hear what He is saying to us. Prov 3: 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. 6 Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. Haggai 2:4 But now don't be discouraged, any of you. Do the work, for I am with you. 5 When you came out of Egypt, I promised that I would always be with you. I am still with you, so do not be afraid. 6 "Before long I will shake heaven and earth, land and sea. 7 I will overthrow all the nations, and their treasures will be brought here, and the Temple will be filled with wealth. 8 All the silver and gold of the world is mine. 9 The new Temple will be more splendid than the old one, and there I will give my people prosperity and peace." The Lord Almighty has spoken. Heb 12:25 Be careful, then, and do not refuse to hear him who speaks. Those who refused to hear the one who gave the divine message on earth did not escape. How much less shall we escape, then, if we turn away from the one who speaks from heaven! 26 His voice shook the earth at that time, but now he has promised, "I will once more shake not only the earth but heaven as well." 27 The words "once more" plainly show that the created things will be shaken and removed, so that the things that cannot be shaken will remain. 28 Let us be thankful, then, because we receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Let us be grateful and worship God in a way that will please him, with reverence and awe; 29 because our God is indeed a destroying fire. 2 Tim 3:14 But as for you, continue in the truths that you were taught and firmly believe. You know who your teachers were, 15 and you remember that ever since you were a child, you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, 17 so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed. philemcc |

19 | Scriptures supporting Matt 5:39 | Matt 5:39 | philemcc | 78301
luke 21:12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you. They will hand you over to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of My name. 13 It will lead to an opportunity for you to witness. 14 Therefore make up your minds not to prepare your defense ahead of time, 15 for I will give you such words and a wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. 16 You will even be betrayed by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends; and they will kill some of you. 17 And you will be hated by all because of My name. 18 But not a hair of your head will be lost. 19 By your endurance gain your lives. philemcc |
