1 | Acts 10:39 "Tree or cross"? | Acts 10:39 | newoldstock | 192045
Hi, God's blessing to you. According to Roman historians, the Romans used a wooden cross made from a tree to execute those who committed crimes against Rome. It was also a practise to hang dead bodies of those killed in battle or for heresy against a ruler from trees and let them be picked over by the vultures as a deterent to others to not follow their example.
2 | Why do we have to go church | Heb 10:25 | newoldstock | 191831
The Bible says that we should not forsake "our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near," (Heb. 10:25). It is wise to go to church because that is where we can go to hear the word of God preached and to experience the friendship of other believers. |

4 | Is | Rom 10:9 | newoldstock | 104769
This is your answer. This is what is required to be saved. However Jesus was fully man and fully God. Gnostics believed He was Sprit and not fully man. God Bless. Jim Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; Rom 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." Rom 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; Rom 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." |

8 | Why did Jesus MAKE John Baptize Him? | Matt 3:15 | newoldstock | 102816
God used Jesus' baptism to signal the start of his ministry with all 3 of the trinity present. Jesus also used it as an example, that we should do likewise.

Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; Rom 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
12 | How did alter calls or invitations start | Bible general Archive 2 | newoldstock | 102695
Thank you all for your well thought biblical answers. I really appreciate it. My church does not do alter calls and only does communion on Wednesday evening services ONLY about once every 3 months. I believe in the value of alter calls occasionally not every Sunday. And I believe that communion should be done occasionally in the Sunday main service. I have been praying and researching prior to discussing these issues with the pastor. Thanks again for all your help! Jim
13 | Why can't I have several wives? | Ex 21:10 | newoldstock | 102387
Headdoc, I dislike assumptions, but indulge me with a couple: 1. With the "handle" of headdoc, I assume that you are the psychological field. 2. I would bet that it is not you, but a patient or two that has raised this question. 3. I believe that your real question is when and why did people change back to monogamy views from polygamy views and is there a biblical reference? I do not know the answer to this question. 4. If your question is "why can't I" and "is God changeble" (which I believe you used to elicit and trigger more "Hits") that question was well answered by Makarios, JustMe, and Hank. |

14 | Where is it written that Jesus said it? | Acts 10:46 | newoldstock | 101814
How about the "Great Commission"? Does this work? Matt 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Matt 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Matt 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Acts 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." |

15 | tunic of many colors | Gen 37:3 | newoldstock | 101735
The tunic of many colors signified a position of favor, princehood, and birthright - a dramatic way of saying that he was the son to get the birthright. The real idea behind the Hebrew phrase for tunic of many colors is that it was a tunic that extended all the way down to the wrists and ankles, as opposed to one that was shorter. This was not what a working man wore; it was a garment of privilege and status. God Bless, Jim.
16 | True Disciples - eternal importance | Luke 14:26 | newoldstock | 101392
How come none of you that are bible scholars can answer Seeker's questions concerning this post and Mark 16:17,18? I am also very interested in your answers to his questions, BUT no one is answering his questions! You are all witnessing to him and suggesting that he email you on the side. This is a "study bible forum". Let's help him right here on the forum! How many others than him might you help with God glorifying answers? I am embarrassed for this forum for this chain. I would answer myself, if I could, but I do not know the answer to questions; and I am most definitely saved. He makes good points.

19 | Is Seth really the third child? | Gen 5:4 | newoldstock | 96287
