Hello jaewoz101 The RCC teaches this and were able to keep virtually the whole Christian world in captivity for centuries. There's one major flaw in that view. If Jesus is to be the cornerstone (which is the stabilizer of a foundation) then Peter cannot be the rock, nor can the church. Wouldn't that upsurp the actual cornerstone? I think most Christians view the revelation proper that Peter had as being the rock. It is the knowledge (revelation) of who Jesus is that the church is built upon. To bring it down to our little pea brains, at the point of this verse, we have the Foundation built by the Law and the Prophets, we have Jesus the cornerstone and Peter, one little brick set next to the cornerstone. Without this "revelation" going further to build new bricks to build upon the Foundation, we don't have a complete building (church). |
