The following reference is something I happened to find regarding this subject. It reflects a denominations point of view rather than an individual's opinion. http://www.covchurch.org/cov/resources/pwomenmin.html |

4 | new testament clean and unclean foods | 1 Tim 4:4 | mitelt | 105518
Regarding eating all types of food, I would look at Mark 7:14-23. NKJV 14 When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, "Hear Me, everyone, and understand: 15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. 16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!" 17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 So He said to them, "Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?" 20 And He said, "What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man." NIV 14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' " 17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18 "Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? 19 For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.") 20 He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' 21 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' " NASB 14 After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them, "Listen to Me, all of you, and understand: 15 there is nothing outside the man which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man. 16 [" If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."] 17 When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable. 18 And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.) 20 And He was saying, " That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. 21 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, 22 deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. 23 "All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man." |

No, the NASB and NRSV are not the same. The following was taken from http://www.gospelcom.net/ibs/bibles/translations/index.php THE NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE Reading Level: Grade 11 "The Lockman Foundation, a nonprofit Christian corporation committed to evangelism ... organized a team of thirty-two scholars to prepare a new revision [of the American Standard Version of 1901]. These scholars ... strove to produce a literal translation ... in the belief that such a translation 'brings the contemporary reader as close as possible to the actual wording and grammatical structure of the original writers' "' [from the preface]. "After the New American Standard Bible was published (in 1963 for the New Testament and 1971 for the entire Bible), it received a mixed response. Some critics applauded its literal accuracy, while other sharply criticized its language for hardly being contemporary or modern. "On the whole, the New American Standard Bible became respected as a good study Bible that accurately reflects the wording of the original languages yet is not a good translation for Bible reading" (Comfort, pp. 77-78). THE NEW REVISED STANDARD VERSION Reading Level: Grade 8.1 (but Zondervan says it's actually 10.) "The New Revised Standard Version [was] published in 1990. ... In the preface to this revision, Bruce Metzger, chair-person of the revision committee, wrote: 'The New Revised Standard Version of the Bible is an authorized revision of the Revised Standard Version, published in 1952, which is a revision of the American Standard Version, published in 1901. ... The need for issuing a revision of the Revised Standard Version of the Bible arises from three circumstances: (a) the acquisition of still older biblical manuscripts, (b) further investigation of linguistic features of the text, and (c) changes in preferred English usage' (Comfort, p. 85). |

6 | based on Mt. 5:32 may I marry a divorced | Matt 5:32 | mitelt | 103489
I agree with Morant62, you really need to speak with a your pastor (yours, hers, both) about this. I don’t suggest seeking counsel on a web forum. Having said that, here is my own experience. My wife was divorced before I met her. My pastor had no problem with marrying us. We have been married for over 25 wonderful years. We now have a daughter away at college. She has accepted Jesus Christ, she has found a church that she attends while away from home, she attends Christian activities on campus, and she belongs to a Bible Study group in her dorm. I have never had any doubts that this is the woman and family that God planned for me. Did either of us commit adultery? I do not believe so. My wife did not commit adultery in her former marriage. Are we condemned to hell? I cannot believe that God would grant us so much happiness here on earth and then condemn us for these actions when we go to meet Him. If either of us did commit adultery (which I do not believe we did) based on Matt 5:32, then are we not forgiven based on Matt 12:31, "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.” My suggestion: Pray, seek pastoral counsel, and may God bless. |
