2 | Did John really baptise Jesus?? | Bible general Archive 4 | lightedsteps | 223511
Hi cecilk welcome to the forum First you need to understand, the bible is "ALL" truth, if any part of the bible is not truth, then the whole bible is useless to us, it then can not be trusted at all. So YES John did baptize Jesus as depicted in the Bible. I think your question is more on the order of "WHY". Even though Jesus was without sin, when He was baptized by John, could it have been for the original sin of Adam that is upon the flesh of all men? Being 100 percent Man, and 100 percent God, Jesus had to have had the sin of Adam dwelling in his flesh, because he was born of a woman. Job 15:14 What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? Job 25:4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? Jesus had to have sin dwelling in His flesh, otherwise He could not have been tempted as we are, because the temptation would have been of a perfect deity. Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. That part of Jesus that was truly flesh, had to be purged of the sin of Adam, in order for it to be said, He was without spot or blemish. Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: It was the will of God that He (Jesus) be baptized, to fulfill all righteousness. Joh 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Joh 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. Mat 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. Grace be unto you lightedsteps |

4 | Why do i need to love god? | John 3:16 | lightedsteps | 223430
Hi shoorysmile In answer to your question, "WHY LOVE GOD"? I am assuming you have asked this question in relation to those that are Christians, because those that are not, could not care less about God. Those that are without God, are incapable of loving God. So with that understanding, we see in the Old Testament, the Jews being Gods' chosen People, they have not been cast away, but we (Christians) are now the Children of God through Jesus Christ. Until the time of the Gentiles is fulfilled. The simple answer to your question is, "Because God said to." But the more complicated answer is because of Gods' love for His chosen People the Jews, and His children the Christians, He wanted them, and us to be in the safest position we can be in, and that is in a close loving relationship with Him, where He will lead, protect, and care for us by His Spirit. Deu 11:13-16 13) And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, 14) That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil. 15) And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full. 16) Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; God wants us to love Him with all our heart and soul, because if we as human beings are not in a fully committed relationship with God, "WE WILL" be deceived, and worship false Gods. Because as Jeremiah says. Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Now back to your question "WHY" 1Jn 4:15,16 15) Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16) And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 1Jn 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us. Grace be unto you lightedsteps |

5 | what is the correct mode of baptism? | NT general | lightedsteps | 223384
In order for you to understand the correct mode of baptism. You first need to understand the purpose of baptism. A person having not received Salvation, (forgiveness of sin) being baptized no matter what the mode, is doing nothing more than taking a bath. So baptism is only for those having received Salvation. Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. In order for a person to be saved, they need to (Believe), and (Confess) these are two things that a baby cannot do, even a young child does not fully understand the concept of sin, as someone older would. Provision has not been made for a surrogate in these cases. (God Parents) Rom 6:3,4 3) Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4) Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. In an attempt to understand, look at a natural death. After a person has died, would you then take them to the cemetery, and sprinkle them with dirt, or only bury them up to the waist, and pour dirt over their head? No you would dig a hole deep enough to bury them completely under the ground. Therefore as I see it, the correct mode of baptism, is first for the person knowing fully their sins are forgiven, then are fully immersed. Grace be unto you lightedsteps |

7 | Is forgiving the unrepentent scriptural? | Matthew | lightedsteps | 223284
Hi biblenovice You say "When Jesus was dying on the cross, He said, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." Was His request granted by the Father, or not? If so, wouldn't that mean that everyone was forgiven of every sin and transgression forevermore, with "no repentence required" at any time?" Jesus also said before His crucifixion Joh 10:17,18 17) Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18) No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. He was saying He would lay down His life for the sins of the world, so when He said in. Luk 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. He was speaking of the men that were doing the actual crucifixion. Because no man took His life, He laid it down. Your use of this next verse Mat 18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. Your not taking into account, it is a brother that is spoken of, not just some other person in society. With that in mind, the brother that will not admit his trespass towards you, is not doing what is right in the sight of God, and the church. There are still penalties for our actions even though we are saved. Using your choice of scripture. Mat 21:12,13 12) And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13) And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. Understand, this was the TEMPLE of GOD not just some building. Jesus said to them, "My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves." Just to put it into perspective for you. Would you be angry if people came into your house, and started selling things, "This was HIS house!" It was not ever intended for people to sell things there. As far as your saying. "I mentioned this in case somebody wants to refer to a scripture that says one should not rebuke the wicked for any reason." Your position as a Christian, a follower of Christ, is to always forgive Mat 6:14,15 14) For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15) But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Notice this is different than Matt.18:15, it says "MAN" this denotes all mankind, not just a brother. So you are right, don't rebuke, it is useless to rebuke. Pro 9:7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. Grace be unto you Lightedsteps |

8 | Is every scripture really error-free? | Prov 6:31 | lightedsteps | 223283
Hi biblenovice You say "Over many years, I have been the victim of a number of scam artists, who robbed me of many, many thousands of dollars," There is a saying, "You cannot cheat an honest man." The First Rule of the Con is that YOU CANNOT CHEAT AN HONEST MAN! It is fundamental to the success of a grifter, and con-men the world over. An honest man does not expect to get something for nothing, and therefore he cannot be lured in by that which is too good to be true. A dishonest person on the other hand jumps at the opportunity to get something for nothing, something that he knows is not rightfully his, and he is therefore easy to lure in. He is easy to cheat. ......American Chronicle With that in mind, your position then, is always to turn the other cheek. If you are looking for a fast buck, your loss then falls on you, but if you are taken advantage of unknowingly, then your position is to forgive as you have been forgiven Matt.6:9 Grace be unto you lightedsteps |

9 | Is James 4:3 completely true? | James 4:3 | lightedsteps | 223282
Hello biblenovice Welcom to the forum With "LUSTS" being the operative word, you have missed the context of the passage where the word is used. IMO you cannot use this as the reason you did not receive from God. Look at Jas. 4:1-5 then understand the context of the passage. What were the people in these passages asking for? If you are working in the name it, and claim it realm, then you can't expect a car with a 14 yr. old heater to work properly, mine didn't, and God held me responsible for it. There are some things in life that "WE" need to take the responsibility for, like spending the money HE has provided, for the things we need. So you see, in a different way, HE did supply for your needs, by answering your prayer, before you asked. Been there, done that, then HE changed my diaper, and said grow up, and start walking in faith. Only by taking what He has already given to us, can we show ourselves as faithful stewards. God doesn't micro manage our lives for us, HE isn't our slave, "WE" are HIS. Did you as a parent, always give your son what he asked for, if not why not? In your giving an allowance to your son for the things he needed, teaching him responsibility, if he then had enough money for a new tire for his bike, but came back to you, asking for you to fix the tire, would you? There are lots of other reasons given in the bible, for why God does not answer prayer. But your question is answered by a simple, "It Is Your Responsibility" Grace be unto you lightedsteps |

Hi Elderbear This is one of those questions that helped fuel the Protestant Reformation, the question of the infallibility of the Pope is still debated 500 yrs. later. The direct answer to your question is "YES" God does speak to persons, as far as the pastor he is only a person, he is not endued with special hearing powers, everybody in his church have the same ability to hear from God as he does. Take to heart, "ALL" of the answers, and scriptures you have been given in this thread. Your question sounds as though you have questions, about what your pastor is teaching, that you feel you cannot confront the pastor with. Grace be unto you lightedsteps |

11 | believeth and is baptized | Mark 16:16 | lightedsteps | 222928
To: the thread The place where these verses are missing, is in the Codex Vaticanus from (350AD) and also the Codex Sinaiticus from (375AD) plus some other early manuscripts. But within the vast majority of the ancient manuscripts, the verses in question do appear (Mk.16:9-20) There is an entire blank column the Codex Vaticanus From Mk.16:9-20 to Lk.1:1 which gives the appearance that something should indeed be there. This long ending of Mark as some may call it, was known to both Justin Martyr, and to Tatian in the second century which was from 130 - 150 AD). The question that comes to my mind then is, with so much controversy regarding these verses from Mk.16 over the centuries, as all of you have said, why then have they been repeatedly published within the Bible as though the do indeed belong? I have taken the time to go to 23 different translations, and this verse is in every one, including the KJV, NASB, NIV, AMPLIFIED, and even the MESSAGE, but most surprising of all is that Calvin even put it in the Geneva Bible. Therefore if the publishers of these Bibles do continually reprint , and publish these verses, then they must feel they do belong. I for one, would say "if the consensus is that these verses do not belong, and should not be there, then they should not be there. Otherwise these types of arguments against them should cease. I no not what course others may take, but as for me, this will be my last post on this thread. Thank you all, for your interest participation, and input. Grace be unto you all lightedsteps |

The disciples of Jesus baptized - Joh 4:2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) Paul was baptized - Act 9:18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. Hi humility As you can see, this verse of scripture only pertains to the descendants of Aaron. Because it was a position that was designated by God for His service in the Temple, and was therefore a family position. The position does not fall under the category of something under the Old Covenant, and therefore not relating to us under the New Covenant. It would I am sure, still be in effect in the Jewish religion, but not in any Christian religion, solely on the grounds, it was to the direct descendants of Aaron. Lev 21:21 No man that hath a blemish (OF THE SEED OF AARON THE PRIEST) shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God. Hi RRHill Welcome to the forum Having found evidence in other places, that might shed some light on your question, I offer them for your approval Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Is not then the habitation of God, the place where God dwells, His kingdom? 1Pe 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an (HOLY PRIESTHOOD), to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a (ROYAL PRIESTHOOD), an (HOLY NATION), a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: So then according to Peter, believers are not only a Holy Priesthood, but a Royal Priesthood as well. Therefore from this teaching of Peters, he is saying believers are Kings, Priests, and a Nation,(Kingdom). When you put it all together, Christians are not only a Priesthood of Kings, but the Kingdom of God itself. The following comes from - - The Greek Interlinear Bible Rev. 5:10 and didst make them to the God of us a kingdom and priests, and they will reign on (?over) the earth. From this verse, it says they will (REIGN) which denotes Kingship for the believer. Grace be unto you lightedsteps |

Hi Rdventen All of the following verses using the word ELECT, come from the New Test., they all seem to be referring to the people of God, as Christians. Mat 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Rom 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Tit 1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; 1Pe 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Greek Definitions for the word ELECT (from Strongs Concordance) G1588 eklektos ek-lek-tos' select; by implication favorite: - chosen, elect. MamaMetal These verses say we are responsible for our own sins, and do not bear the sins (curses) of our fathers. Jer 31:29-33 29) In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge. 30) But (EVERY ONE SHALL DIE FOR HIS OWN INIQUITY): every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge. 31) Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: 33) But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Eze 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: (THE SOUL THAT SINNETH, IT SHALL DIE). Eze 18:19-22 19) Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live. 20) (THE SOUL THAT SINNETH, IT SHALL DIE. THE SON SHALL NOT BEAR THE INIQUITY OF THE FATHER, NEITHER SHALL THE FATHER BEAR THE INIQUITY OF THE SON: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. 21) But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 22) All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. With all of that now said. What you grew up with, becomes a learned way of living, what is abnormal actually becomes normal, if there isn't any counter example for you to observe. We make our own choices in life, regardless of how we were raised, we choose to be the same as our parents, or choose to be the opposite. To just believe we have no choice in the matter is a cop out. How many other things do you, and your children do, that are the same as you observed your parents do. besides the battering, yelling etc., but those things you would not change? Mamametal There is the story about Steven, where his life was taken wrongfully, which is worth alot more than any ones property, but these are the words of Steven. Act 7:60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. Was this becoming a doormat, or was he following the commandments of Christ? Therefore as I see it, the following scripture covers your situation. Luk 6:27 27) But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, 28) Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. 29) And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also. 30) Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. 31) And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. 32) For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. 33) And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. 34) And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. 35) But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. 36) Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. 37) Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: 38) Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Grace be unto you Lightedsteps |
