1 | How to love others as commanded | 1 John 3:11 | kichmon | 108856
My answer is much more consistent with true faith. Begin to see the resurection in every part of your life. Calvary should be our last useless journey. While many prefer to crucify themselves and everyone they come in contact with, that is not the message of the cross. That wretched stick is empty and it is time for you to come down from the cross and live each day as if it were resurection day. Live in the light, deny sin it's existence. I think God is more displeased with the man who says over and over again "I am a sinner" . He would rather that man say "I am a child of God, and I recieve His blessing". Walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. We Love our brother when we truly understand the atonement. We are not seperate from our brother. You state:"How does a selfish man, of 40 years, learn to give of himself? And love total strangers". As the body of Christ, you are The Son, the one in whom God is well pleased. Love only flows through you to others as you begin to see yourself as innocent and sinless. Statements like the one you posted are not statements of a man who is aware of his own divinity. If you are the body of Christ than i suggest you take your proper seat at the right hand of the Almighty. Because as you release your spirit to its higher place all those whom you meet,"total strangers", will respond to this spirit in like. This is the "kingdom within" that Jesus spoke of. I say the following in the mirror each morning. "The Light of God surrounds me" The Love of God enfolds me The power of God protects me The presence of God watches over me Wherever I am, God is!" Mary be with you, Kichmon |

2 | v18-20 refers to church leaders? | Rom 1:18 | kichmon | 108766
Wanda, In my OPINION this verse has relevance to the Christian majority of our day. As I have witnessed in this forum so it is among most of Christendom. Suppression and oppression is the preferred method of evangelization among these types. No opinion other than the "orthodox" view is accepted. What I don't get is why would a study of the bible exist if everything was already figured out and every doctrine, verse etc is neatly packaged in Fundamentalist totalitarianism? I have attempted to show the "other" view in all of my posts so as to bring balance. It is like this forum just wants everyone to say I am Ok and you are ok and everything is harmonious. Well like much of the Bible stories, that sounds great, teaches alot but that's not reality. |

Ken, I apologize for the majority of this forum. Most here are unlearned. The verse you question is very simple. The gate that one had to enter in through to the city was "nicknamed" eye of the needle because it was so narrow that anyone approaching had to stop, unload his camel, walk the camel through the gate than repack his camel. Jesus was stating that the rich must unload their attachments to this life in order to have a chance at eternal life. He enforces the difficulty because as we know some "things" are hard to let go of. Blessed Be |

6 | why did Hosea marry prostitute | Hos 1:1 | kichmon | 108738
My answer is purely from a cultural standpoint. According to the Bible, the Canaanite peoples had a system of religious prostitution. This is seen, for example, in Genesis 38:21, where Judah asks Canaanite men of Adulam "Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side?". The Hebrew original employs the word "qedsha" in Judah's question, as opposed to the standard Hebrew "zonah". The word "qidsha" is derived from the root Q.D.Sh, which signifies uniqueness and holiness; thus it probably represents a religious prostitute, a term uncommon among the Israelites, but known to them from the neighboring people and used in communication between them. Sacred prostitution was common in Israel albeit forbidden by the priests. We later see another sacred prostitute in Mary Magdelene. Magdela was a hub of Goddess worship(Asherah, God's wife) and prostitution was similar to paying for indulgences. Now Hosea's story is an interesting one and we should take heed to hear its message. The book may be divided into two parts, the first containing chapters 1-3, and symbolically representing the idolatry of Israel under imagery borrowed from the matrimonial relation. The figures of marriage and adultery are common in the Old Testament writings to represent the spiritual relations between God and the people of Israel. Here we see the apostasy of Israel and their punishment, with their future repentance, forgiveness, and restoration. The second part, containing 4-14, is a summary of Hosea's discourses, filled with denunciations, threatenings, exhortations, promises, and revelations of mercy. The first part is what pertains to your question. Hosea represents God and the prostitute represents Israel or man in general. Some may say that Hosea marries the woman to show how God gives undeserved sinners His grace. Perhaps this is a facet but the gnostic or hidden message is much more profound. |
