1 | Why punish the man of God? | 1 Kings | kallir00 | 178014 | ||
This is a very good question. The understanding of the history of the nation of Israel at this time is important to properly understand why God punished one and not the other. After the Kingdom was divided into the two, the north yielded themselves into idolatry and wicked ways according to the ways of King Jeroboam. Matter of fact, LORD GOD sent this man of GOD to rebuke this king. This prophet from the judah was entrusted by God to act more responsibly than the old prophet who had compromised his ministry by his willingness to live at the very center of the false system of worship without speaking out against it. The problem here is the prophet from judah didn't use his discernment from God about this old prophet. He fell to the hospitality charms of the old prophet. Accustomed to receiving direct revelations, the judean prophet should have disregarded the so called angelic message this old prophet supposedly have received. |
