1 | Can you lose your salvation? | Eph 2:8 | jpendley | 41881 | ||
Hello, I am a new member of the forum and am not a member of the clergy or a theologian. Thus, my answer will be my opinion; it may also be, at least partly, another question. I believe that salvation cannot be lost, except possibly by denying Jesus. (Would someone please respond to the last part of the previous sentence?) I think that the classic scripture in support of my belief is John 10:27-28, in which Jesus says, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of my hand." I also think that we confuse Sin (capital "S") with sin (small "s"). The terminal condition into which we are all born is Sin, original Sin. This separates us from God. Acceptance of Jesus as our Savior wipes that Sin away, permanently, and justifies us with God. But God knows that we will continue to commit individual sins. Jesus died so that we might have forgiveness from those, as well. John 3:16 does not say that we will have everlasting life if we believe in Him--unless we sin again. That is the extent of God's grace. It is important to "pray unceasingly," but it is still virtually inevitable that we will die with some forgotten sin unconfessed. I do not believe that we are condemned in such a case; I believe that Jesus' blood covers all that. John |
