1 | OT importance for todays Christians | Luke 24:44 | jlpwilley | 129683
The OT is the foundation. You would not read the sequel without first reading the book that explains what is going on, would you? Additionally, the OT gives us the laws and statutes by which we should live our lives. No where in the NT does it go into such detail about how we should worship Yahweh, treat our brethren, build a strong family and community and how to separate ourselves from the ungodly masses. And yes, the law is still in effect, Matt 5:18, Christ has not yet returned therefore not all has been accomplished.
2 | Explain 3 days from Cruc to Resur | Matt 12:40 | jlpwilley | 129680
It is not 3 days. The Friday to Sunday scenario is not supported by scripture. The only mention made of the day of the week was upon his resurection which was near the end of the sabbath (Saturday), almost dawn on the first day of the week (Sunday) Matt 28:1. There is no mention of the exact day of the week on which he was crucified but Friday to Sunday is definitely not 3 days and 3 nights, no matter what math you use.

4 | Do deacons and pastors need be married? | NT general Archive 1 | jlpwilley | 129673
Paul mentions in Corinthians that it is preferable to be single but it is not a requirement. 1 Cor 7:8 But to the unmarried people and to the widows, I declare that it is well (good, advantageous, expedient, and wholesome) for them to remain [single] even as I do. The only requirements that are specifically mentioned are as follows: 1 Tim 3:12 Let deacons be the husbands of but one wife, and let them manage [their] children and their own households well. |
