2 | Knowledge of Messiah | John 3:1 | hopalong | 219016
Cor 2:10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 1 Cor 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 1 Cor 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 1 Cor 2:13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 1 Cor 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. 1 Cor 2:15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. 1 Cor 2:16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ. HOPALONG |

4 | Are Jewish people assured salvation? | Gal 3:16 | hopalong | 217104
Rom 9:1 I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit, Rom 9:2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart. Rom 9:3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh, Rom 9:4 who are Israelites, to whom belongs the adoption as sons, and the glory and the covenants and the giving of the Law and the temple service and the promises, Rom 9:5 whose are the fathers, and from whom is the Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen. Rom 9:6 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; Rom 9:7 nor are they all children because they are Abraham's descendants, but: "THROUGH ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS WILL BE NAMED." Rom 9:8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants. Rom 9:9 For this is the word of promise: "AT THIS TIME I WILL COME, AND SARAH SHALL HAVE A SON." Rom 9:10 And not only this, but there was Rebekah also, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac; Rom 9:11 for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God's purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls, 3 Matt 1:21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." 1 Matt 24:31 "And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other ... those whom God has chosen (jew and gentile alike) are those who will be granted the gift of salvation. John 17:11 "I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. 6 | Scripture spare the rod spoit the child | Prov 13:24 | hopalong | 216808
Spare The Rod, Spoil the Child This was a common phrase in the previous century, and still exists today. It refers to the practice of spanking your children in discipline; the phrase "spare the rod, spoil the child" means that if you don't punish your children when they do wrong, you'll spoil them. This comes from a Biblical proverb (: "He who withholds his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently." |

7 | can a child be baptised | Bible general Archive 4 | hopalong | 216704
Dear Morrison, "Many Christians who practice infant baptism do so because they understand infant baptism as the new covenant equivalent of circumcision. In this view, just as circumcision joined a Hebrew to the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants, so baptism joined a person to the New Covenant of salvation through Jesus Christ. This view is unbiblical. The New Testament nowhere describes baptism as the New Covenant replacement for Old Covenant circumcision. The New Testament nowhere describes baptism as a sign of the New Covenant. It is faith in Jesus Christ that enables a person to enjoy the blessings of the New Covenant (1 Corinthians 11:25; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Hebrews 9:15). Baptism does not save a person. It does not matter if you were baptized by immersion, pouring, or sprinkling - if you have not first trusted in Christ for salvation, baptism (no matter the method) is meaningless and useless. Water baptism by immersion is a step of obedience to be done after salvation as a public profession of faith in Christ and identification with Him. Infant baptism does not fit the Biblical definition of baptism or the Biblical method of baptism. If Christian parents wish to dedicate their child to Christ, then a baby dedication service is entirely appropriate. However, even if infants are dedicated to the Lord, when they grow up they will still have to make a personal decision to believe in Jesus Christ in order to be saved." (got questions.org) Hopalong |

Cor 12:8 Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. 2 Cor 12:9 And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 2 Cor 12:10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. Trust in the Lord. I am in the early stages of what may be Altimers disease. Ihave been praying that this thorn in the flesh may be removed. Never the less, God's will be done. 11 | Most important doctrines? | 2 Tim 3:16 | hopalong | 215558
THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. |

15 | Why was John the baptist so important? | Bible general Archive 4 | hopalong | 212920
It is clear that in the early Church the ministry of John the Baptist is seen as marking the boundary between the age of the promise of the kingdom of God and the arrival of the kingdom in the person of Jesus-Messiah. This is true, according to the testimony of Acts, for both the key apostles--for Peter, the apostle to the Jews, and Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. http://www.founders.org/journal/fj50/article2.html |

16 | Hebrews10:26-31 | Heb 10:26 | hopalong | 212311
Dear Crystal, Verse 26-31 - The exhortations against apostacy and to perseverance, are urged by many strong reasons. The sin here mentioned is a total and final falling away, when men, with a full and fixed will and resolution, despise and reject Christ, the only Saviour; despise and resist the Spirit, the only Sanctifier; and despise and renounce the gospel, the only way of salvation, and the words of eternal life. Of this destruction God gives some notorious sinners, while on earth, a fearful foreboding in their consciences, with despair of being able to endure or to escape it. But what punishment can be sorer than to die without mercy? We answer, to die by mercy, by the mercy and grace which they have despised. How dreadful is the case, when not only the justice of God, but his abused grace and mercy call for vengeance! All this does not in the least mean that any souls who sorrow for sin will be shut out from mercy, or that any will be refused the benefit of Christ's sacrifice, who are willing to accept these blessings. Him that cometh unto Christ, he will in no wise cast out. (Matthew Henry) READ ROMANS 7 HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS! |

18 | confused about Noahs son | Gen 9:22 | hopalong | 209613
Hi Mick, Noah was a righteous man, but he was not sinless. His son Ham, rather than calling his brothers to join him in deriding his father, should have covered his father's nakedness himself and not called his brothers to join him in witnesing his father's shameful condition. Thanks be to Christ that He has covered us with a robe by which our sins are not exposed to judgement. Hopalog |
