1 | What are the seven pillars of wisdom | Prov 9:1 | greentwiga | 152178
This is probably just seven pillars. This describes a well built house. One need make nothing more of it since there is no clear scriptures that mention it. If one really wants to find seven aspects of wisdom, the best place to look is in the wisdom section of proverbs. Prov 3:13-4:27 and 8:1-36. For example 8:12-14 mention seven aspects, but cases can be made for others. Greentwiga |

2 | Should women be ordained? | NT general Archive 1 | greentwiga | 145686
First, there were women elders, women deacons, and prophetesses. Then look at the statements about women. Some statements say this is of God, or just an absolute command (don't steal) God inspired these wordings. Others have cultural tags. "This is our practice." "I don't have the mind of God on this," "does not nature teach you this." In these cases, God inspired these wordings also. Here, we have to pray. Was this the practice in the Greek culture? Can we do differently? Only be absolute if God says be absolute. Bro' greentwiga |

3 | Auras? | OT general | greentwiga | 145572
Use the aura thing as a tool to minister to people. As you grow in maturity, see if the aura becomes more or less important. God's gifts grow stronger. I just don't think it was connected to the seer. That doesn't mean it is not of God. The prophets were told that even if every prophesy came true, if it caused people to leave off worshipping God, reject it. God bless your ministry greentwiga |

4 | "Seers" defined | OT general | greentwiga | 145551
I have a friend who lays her hands on people and sees what is wrong with the body. I was having some health problems and worried that it was heart related. She laid her hands on me and described a constriction and its location, plus a sidewards hole or cavity. She said it was not the heart. I went back to the doctor and started demanding some other tests. It turns out that I had acid reflux, and as is standard, the stomach cells were migrating up into the esophagus. They were not fast enough, because there was some damage, thereatning to become a hole, off to one side. How did this Christian see what the doctors needed a barium swallow and X-rays to see? I do not know. God gifts people and enables them with abilities that we can simply describe the results of. We have more information about how the false imitators did it in the middle east than the Bible gives us. The current theory is that the false oracles used a halocenogenic gas to achieve their visions. It is one thing to be able to see auras around people and interpret them correctly (honest or scoundrel) it is another thing to see exactly what the person is up to. Remember, the false seers "saw" by human effort, not colors but information. They gave confusing information. "If you attack a great nation will fall." The King attacked and a great nation fell, his own. God's seers saw because God gave them specific information (no drugs). They gave specific advise to the king. They were always right. Remember,Trying to attain God's gifts by human effort leads to the false imitation. I only refer to the false to give us some idea about How the seers saw. since even the false did not see by colors or auras, it is unlikely that the real did either. greentwiga |

5 | "Seers" and how they saw | OT general | greentwiga | 145516
I don't know about someones specific research, but I do know some about the Old Testament. There were various sources of knowledge about God. Seers were people that saw. Compare this to the oracle at Delphi (oracle - to see ) She saw visions when she sat by a spring in a grove of trees. One word in Hebrew for spring is the word for eye. Abraham frequently camped by the trees of Mamre. The seer might have functioned like that. Another type of office was the dreamer. From Joseph to Daniel, dreams and dream interpretation was considered important. A third office was the Hearer. Many prophet say This is the WORD of God. The focus was on having heard God's voice. These men spoke what they heard, not what they saw or dreamed. Some peophets would get revelation by more than one method. Douglas |

6 | Doesn't your answer make it 13 tribes? | Joshua | greentwiga | 145464
The twelve tribes of Numbers two are Judah,Issachar, Zebulun, Reuben, Simeon, Gad, Ephraim, Manasseh, Benjamin, Dan, Asher, and Naphtali. In Numbers 3:6, Levi is called a tribe. By my count, that is thirteen tribes. There were twelve sons, but Joseph became two tribes through his two sons. Some accountings of the tribes do not consider Levi because of His special status and not possessing land.
7 | To what is jesus the "faithful witness" | Rev 1:5 | greentwiga | 145111
Jesus is the first ressurected to new life. He opened the door by his death on the cross and because He was sufficient to pay for the sins of mankind, He was ressurected, enabling all others who ar esaved by faith to be ressurected also. The firstborn son has the concept of heir to all of the Father, so John is alluding to this also. All theat the father told Him, He made known to us. He could have known it all since He was fully God, but He had emptied himself and so was dependant on the Father. He was faithful and sinless in his job of telling us everything, so He was the faithful witness. See Rev 2:8,3:7,14 greentwiga |

8 | swine | Matt 7:6 | greentwiga | 145075
Try bribing a swine with pearls. He isn't interested. He will look at what you offered, see it is useless to him and trample it underfoot. Then enraged, turn and see you are good to eat. Similarly, people who have sought refuge in a church, thinking a statue or or cross will protect them will see the mob outside says that wooden cross so precious to you in just cheap firewood to us, and then attack. If you have had some special blessing from God and seek to bare your heart to an unbeliever, He will trample it. greentwiga |

9 | Who was Abraham ? | Gen 17:5 | greentwiga | 145002
Abe was a neat man. He was a wandering Aramean from Aram in North Mesopotamia, in Turkey. They were moon god worshippers. There were several concepts in worship. Loyalty. As long as you were loyal to your king (your God) you could do anything you wanted to noncitizens of the king. Righteousness. All civilizations/religions had laws like don't murder, don't steal - from other citizens. Magic. Performing rituals got God to do what you wanted. Abraham started something unique. Abe believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness. No more currying God's favor. By faith, he offered up Isaac, and was given a substitute sacrifice. An attitude of holiness, not magic was what God wanted. Abe prayed for Sodom, that hated city of oppressors. God held them to the same standard as anyone else, and Abe couldn't rejoice in unbelievers deaths, but prayed for them. Noncitizens were treated to the same standards. This was a totally new concept, and in rudimentary form, we can see the Christian standards of life by grace. What God desires is not sacrifice but holiness, and we achieve it by faith, not by works, that is God makes us holy. We do not live holy to gain God's favor. This was the revolution of Abraham. greentwiga |

10 | Did the Holy Spirit inspire Scripture | NT general Archive 1 | greentwiga | 144767
I was a missionary for some years. We were from a variety of denominations. There was a basic set of beliefs that we had to agree to. These beliefs are held by most every denomination. There are some minor belief differences, but the core ones are the same. A few denominations like the Seventh Day Adventists tend to drift from the saved by grace and return to laws, such as worship on the sabbath, but the rest agree the New Testament is by grace alone. The Charismatic vs fundamentalist disagreement is basically based on interpretation of history in acts. History interpretation, such as the timing of the baptism by the Holy Spirit, unless clearly supported by teaching (Words of Jesus, Peter, or writings like Paul's) tends to be a rich source of the different interpretations. I simply say, My interpretation is wrong in some places. I try to get better, but God uses all of his children that are willing, despite the misbeliefs. When you meet a true brother, the love is amazing, despite differences in beliefs. The Holy Spirit is guiding us into all truth, and he is uniting us in love. greentwiga |

11 | Bible Order | Bible general Archive 2 | greentwiga | 144764
The order of the Bible is almost incidental. The Hebrew OT is in a different order than the protestant. They organized it by "Holiness." The Torah was the most holy. The prophets were next, and then the other writings, ie the histories came last. The 12 minor prophets were all on one scroll, so the order was standardized. Paul's writings tended to be ordered by length. This was a classic system of ancient people that memorized huge volumes. The Koran, for example is ordered that way. Various of the first compilations of the New Testament are ordered differently. Thus, the ordering is not particularly inspired greentwiga |

12 | greentwiga, How can she remarry? | 1 Cor 7:11 | greentwiga | 144100
There is a fine balance described in these verses. When a woman becomes a widow, she is free (from the law) and can remarry. In verses 12-13 etc, when the unbeliever leaves, the believer in not bound (same construction as the widow) and can therefore remarry. When a spouse commits adultery, the marriage covenant is broken, so the person is free to remarry without committing adultery. In all other cases, a Christian who leaves and remarries commits adultery. So in verse 10-11, we have a situation that simply states, if you leave, remain unmarried or else be reconciled. Though no reasons are given, remember earlier verses that say do not stop having sex with your spouse except for a (short) period of time. If you choose to leave, you can force your spouse to get so desperate that adultery is committed. In this case, if there was insufficient reason, after the spouse commits adultery, you remarry, you also commit adultery. Now, let's say you are in a dangerous situation, and you leave and say when you get truly cured, I will return. There is a clear willingness. The spouse can seek healing, or move on to another. Adultery can be committed after the divorce. (See Jesus' teachings.) That is why for verses 10-11 I focus on having sufficient reasons to leave (Alcohol, drugs, Child or spousal abuse, etc.) If your apparent Christian spouse divorces you, and you are willing to be healed, but they remarry, adultery is committed, and you are free. The whole balancing act is not to blame another for your faults, or to deliberately force the other to commit adultery to justify yourself. God is not fooled. I was in this situation. My Christian spouse filed for divorce. I fought and slowly won the battle to stay single and remain celibate. My spouse remarried, and then I was free. After a time of healing, I was ready to remarry. I stayed obedient to God's word no matter how much it hurt to think of never remarrying again. Praise our wonderful God. He gave me a truly Godly spouse this time. greentwiga |

13 | leave when violent..? | Mal 2:16 | greentwiga | 143945
Unfaithfulness and adultery are the same thing. The third reason for freedom to remarry is if an Unbelieving spouse leaves. There is another reason for divorce mentioned in the Bible, but one that does not allow freedom to remarry. In 1 Cor 7:10-11, it says if a wife separates from her husband, she must stay single or remarry him. This allows the abused wife to leave. If while waiting for him to get healing, he remarries or has sex, she is now totally free. Remember, though, God is not fooled. If a person by withdrawl of sex is trying to manipulate the spouse into adultery, out of desperation, the Bible is clear. In this case, Both commit adultery on remarriage. Matt 5:32, 19:9. God understands desperate situations and allows a way out. I do not advocate staying single lightly. I was divorced, did not meet the standards for freedom to remarry, and fought and won the battle to stay celibate. Later, I did meet the standards and was able to remarry, but after ten years of being single. It is hard, but trust God, He gives the victory. Greentwiga |

14 | married moms working full-time | Proverbs | greentwiga | 143404

15 | Israel's land | Genesis | greentwiga | 143085
The river of Egypt is a small river also known as the Wadi of Egypt, smoewhat southwest of Gaza (40 miles) The Jebusites was the people of the city of Jerusalem. Some of the obscure names are also names connected with cities. Some like the Canaanites along the coast and the Rephaites were spread over several cities. Some people like the Hittites and Amorites came from kingdoms far north, but it was the combined land that was given to Abraham. Notice the similar list in Gen 10:15-19. There the territory is described. There the northern extent was Sidon, the southern was Gaza, and the east was about the Jordan valley. What was promised to Abraham is very similar with the extension to the Euphrates. The kingdoms in the hills on the east of the Jordan valley. (later to be Moab, Edom, and Ammon) do not seem top be included. Greentwiga |

16 | Explain share in the glory of our Lord | 2 Thess 2:14 | greentwiga | 143028
Always look at the context. Paul is talking about suffering and deception. He is now making an appeal to stand firm. He refers back to their salvation. Now he refers to the future in heaven, the glory of the Lord. This brings to mind how he got his glory. Jesus preached the truth. Then he was faced with intense suffering. He prayed so hard to prepare himself, that he sweated drops of blood. Then he went to the cross and bore our sins and was separated from the Father, his true suffering. Research on share in the New Testament. We are to share in his sufferings and stand firm. How many can't even preach the Gospel because of mild verbal rejection. People have preached the Gospel during intense physical persecution. Stand firm so you might have great joy at his coming and not have your works burned up.
17 | joseph, David, Jesus 30 years old. | Luke 3:23 | greentwiga | 143026
What is the question? Jesus was "about 30," probably 36 if we go by the 6BC census. The Bible frequently does not say about when quoting years like David, but sometimes shows that it was a rounded number. Joseph was 30 when he entered Pharaoah's wervice but may have been 50 when the years of the dream started, or when Jacob entered. greentwiga |

19 | What about tithing? | Numbers | greentwiga | 142912
We just had a long thread discussion on this last week. scan back. see Lev 27:30, Num 18:21, deut 12:17. Tithe is Hebrew for tenth. Some see 3 tithes and come up with 19 to 27 percent. I see one tithe that in one year out of three, (the year of the Tithe) was given away. The other two years, one took his tithe and ate it at the temple. When one gave the tithe, one shared it between Levites, widows. aliens, and poor. This results in a gift to the Levites of about 2 percent. This is shown in a Battle of Moses where 2 percent of the booty was given to the Levites, and a tenth of 2 percent was given to the priests. Of course, as Christians, we are free of the law, and should do better no matter whether you think the tithe is 2, 10, or 27 percent. Give with riotous Joy, as the New Testament teaches. greentwiga |

20 | What language did Jesus use? Read? Quote | John | greentwiga | 142527
When Jesus quoted the Hebrew Bible on the cross, people thought he was saying elijah. Only th most scholarly, apparantly spoke Hebrew. Greek was the trade language, much like English is in Kenya or India, or Sweden. Still that is not the daily language of any one group. When among all aramaic speakers, such as the disciples, some of whom wrote in atrocious greek, the best communication would be in Aramaic. When one has a choice between a habrew text that none understand, and a greek text that most understand somewhat, it makes best sense to quote the greek. That is how I understand the clues in the Gospel greentwiga |
