1 | Is instumental music authorized in worsh | Col 3:16 | forhim | 60819
Hello 542, I have considered 5 translations and find no reason to use this verse for an elimination of instrumental music. We can be thankful and praising GOD without listening to the words of others. I think this verse is refering to the wonderful ways we can express our joy and gratefulness of GOD's grace through our faith in Jesus with ourselves and each other for the purpose of teaching, training and gentle reproof. Paul is giving an example of how gentle our teaching and admonishing is to be. When considering this verse it would be good to consider v12 to v15: So, as those who have been chosen of GOD, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. And so considering this we are discussing our new behaviour and motive both with ourselves and with others. Consider v17: Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to GOD the FATHER. Consider also, 1Cor 16:14, Let all that you do be done in love; And, Eph 4:1-3, Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. And, Eph 5:18-21, And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to GOD, even the FATHER; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ. There are countless more that reflect this meaning but I will finish with Col 4:5-6, Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. I hope this helps. forHim |

2 | Only church | James 1:27 | forhim | 60052
For your information: The Church of Christ, The International Chuches of Christ and the Boston Movement (or Boston Church of Christ) can all be from the same Kip McKean from Boston. Two good sites to learn about them are: www.icoc.org, and, www.reveal.org for both sides of the story. This is a group I have previously been involved in and would suggest caution, discernment and lots of prayer. I have checked out the articles at equip.org and I would also advise caution as the information is misleading, though the intent is right. I think you will find the above two sites help to clarify what the equip.org articles are trying to say. May GOD be with your friend. |
