2 | Can a murderer go to heaven? | Rom 3:23 | ebrain | 188546
In addition to the excellent answer given by BradK, here are some further thoughts. Entry into heaven is dependant on sins being forgiven, and all sins (including murder) can be forgiven, because there is only one sin that will not be forgiven, see below. Matt 12:31 "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. Matt 12:32 "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. ebrain. |

3 | follow-up question | Gen 1:1 | ebrain | 188382
Hi mto. Further to the excellent advice given by M.Royal, might I add. It is also written. 1Jo 5:14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. The question arises, how can we know that we are asking in accordance with His will? Answer bellow. Mar 11:24 "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Prayer is two way, and as Matt 6:8 says "your Father knows what you need before you ask Him". It is not surprising therefore, that If what you are about to ask for, is in accordance with His will, that our Father will cause you to know in your heart (believe) that you will receive it. You will have noted that the above verse, speaks in the present tense, of what is in reality to have a future fulfillment. but this is the way in which the Lord informs you that, "you will have them". ebrain. |

4 | Is a thought from God or satan ? | Prov 16:3 | ebrain | 188187
Hi newhall_fred Thank you for your post. I hope that what follows will be of help, It is taken from a letter I sent to a friend who had asked a similar question to yours. Subject: He who indwells you. Hi again David. I hope that what follows will be of help to you in understanding just where I am coming from on this subject. You said. "we all believe in the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, but to what extent, and exactly how does He manifest Himself? That seems to be the sticking point, and that's why I believe He works in different ways in different people." To answer this, I will have go back to my conversion, an extract from which is given bellow. "The Lord spoke to me in His still small voice, and said "Why am I doing this, why am I as it were taking time off from running this vast universe to come down into this room to be with you to cause you to open my book just where I want you to open it, to read the very verse that I want you to read that tells you that I know just what your problem is, if as you say your sin is too great for me to forgive?. " Now just what do I mean by, "The Lord spoke to me", well I did not hear anything, nor did I see anything.. It is hard to describe, but I will try, It was as if I had an awareness inserted into my thinking processes.. Thinking, I would describe as a person carrying on a conversation with himself silently inside his own head.. What was done to me might be refereed to by the unconverted as "mental telepathy", It was not speech, but information given, which can only be communicated to others by the use of speech. Does the Bible tell us all that we need to know?, well yes of course it does, and what's more it tells us of the Holy Spirits activity from within us, as the following verses indicate. Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.. Tell me David how does He do this?, I have no doubt that you are a son of God, well in that case, have a look at Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. If you are a son, then you are led by the Spirit, how David?, please tell me,, could it I wonder be like, "your heart glowing within you" ?,, Well that is exactly how I felt in my heart, when the Lord spoke to me at my conversion. Before I close here is a practical example,, suppose I am in a crowd, and want to give someone the "Gospel message".. Who am I going to speak to?, and what am I going to say?, well if I open my Bible, I read, Pro 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; Pro 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct* your paths. and don't forget I know also from the Word, that as I am a son, I can expect the indwelling Holy Spirit to lead me, to the one to whom He wishes to speak. I must however, adopt towards God, the same attitude that Jesus did, and as He explained at John 7:16-17, also John 14:10, then the words that I speak will not be my words, but the words of My Father who dwells inside me, He it is who will be doing the work, and not me trying to do my fleshly best for Him, but He will only work through me if I allow Him to do so, and this is achieved only as a result of, "Not my will but thine be done". I just want to expand a little on my last post. The Scriptures verses quoted bellow are for all believers at all times in history, and not just for the ones to whom Jesus was speaking at the time, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Jhn 7:16 Jesus* answered them and said, "My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. Jhn 7:17 "If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. We are not told here just how this is done, but might I with respect suggest the following. Luk 24:32 And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?" Now, do you see how it's done.. Isn't it great being a Christian. Bless you brother. Edwin. |

5 | Are there any scriptures for the rapture | 2 Pet 3:10 | ebrain | 188167
Hi M.Royal. Thank you for your post. Have a look at 1 Thess 4:13-18, also 1 Cor 15:51-58, and John 14:1-2. What follows may also be of help. ebrain. Comments on the "Rapture", verses in 2 Thess Ch 2. Every thing that is written in Scripture, must be read in context, and the context of what Paul says in verse 7 of Ch 2, must be read in view of the whole of that Chapter, and also what he had to say in his first letter to them, especially Ch 4:13-18. My attention is first drawn to verse 1 of 2 Thess 2, and "our gathering together to Him", I believe these words relate directly to, 1 Thess Ch 4:13-18, in other words the "Rapture", or it you like, our departure.. In verse 3 the word "apostsay", is used, this word can mean "falling away from", or "departing from", and in other parts of Scripture, it is used to refer to a falling away from, or a departure from the truth, however, I am convinced that here in verse 3, it means the departure of believers from earth, especially as this is what I believe Paul has in mind as seen in verse 1. It could, as some have suggested, very well be the Holy Spirit who restrains.. When the church is taken, the Holy Spirit will still be on earth. No one is able to take Him out of the way, although He might very well remove His restraint.. Note for example what He does in verses 11-12. 2 Thess 2:11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 2 Thess 2:12 in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness. Regarding, "He might very well remove His restraint", have a look at the verse bellow, and my comments thereon. 1 Cor 15:28 When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all. The Son will not, "be subjected", as no one, but no one is able to do that, however, He certainly is able to subject Himself. |

6 | Who is he who restrains?ebrain. | 2 Thess 2:7 | ebrain | 188001
For some reason that I do not understand, the verse of Scripture that I specified, and which is shown bellow, did not appear with my question. 2 Thess 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. My question is, "Who is he who restrains?" Thank you. ebrain. |

8 | Jesus and the "good" theif at the | John 19:30 | ebrain | 187501
Hi the seeker. Thank you for your question, a similar question was asked me, and bellow is the answer I gave, I hope that it will be of help to you. ebrain. You said. "I heard someone preaching that Jesus went to hell. Please confirm that this is wrong" There are two aspects to this question, both of which I hope to deal with here. Firstly did He who was made sin for us, ( 2Cr 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.) also suffer for us in hell, or was His suffering on the cross sufficient, and secondly in respect of 1st Peter 3:18-20. Firstly. Jhn 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. "It is finished", "I have completed the work you sent me to do", nothing further is required. English translations of the Hebrew do not always give the understanding that a Jew would have reading the same verses Read all five of the following versions, and see what sort of understanding they give you. Note the second part of a verse will help you to understand the first part of the verse. Psa 16:10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. (ESV) Psa 16:10 For you will not leave my soul among the dead* or allow your godly one* to rot in the grave. (NLT) Psa 16:10 because you will not abandon me to the grave,* nor will you let your Holy One* see decay.(NIV) Psa 16:10 For thou dost not give me up to Sheol, or let thy godly one see the Pit. (RSV) Psa 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul to Sheol; Neither wilt thou suffer thy holy one to see corruption. (ASV) Now just think for a moment, what happens to an unconverted/unsaved person. they die, are put into a grave, where the body sees corruption, and later on they are cast into Hell. In respect of this verse, and using the NIV, I would remove the word "abandon", and in its place put "consign", and that's the only word I would change. Note RSV, uses the expression, "not give me up to", Note. "to Sheol", and not "in Sheol". Secondly. Subject: Christ walking through hell ? Question (short): Christ walking through hell Question (full): Does anyone know where the Bible says Christ walked through hell and that he forgave some people there. Someone asked me recently where this was and I can't find it. I know in the Apostles Creed we say he died and arose on the 3rd day - what was he doing during that time? Can anybody help me with this? Note: There is no Biblical reference that I am aware of that speaks of Christ walking through hell. Just before He died upon the cross Jesus said "it is finished", in other words "nothing further is required". There is a Scripture that some people think indicates this, ie, 1st Peter Ch 3 v 18-20, however, it refers to the Spirit of Christ in Noah proclaiming to the people in Noah's day, (who are now in prison) just what was going to happen to them if they did not repent. See also 2 Peter 2:4-5. I hope this is of some help. The Lord bless you. ebrain. Note. At 1st Peter 3:18, it should read "but made alive by the Spirit", and not in the Spirit. see New King James Version. |

9 | What is apostasy? | 2 Thess 2:3 | ebrain | 187491
Hi Vincent, and thank you for your question. The Greek word from which we get "apostasy", can have more than one meaning, as the material bellow indicates, which I hope will be of help tp you. The Lord bless you. ebrain. Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, -2 Thessalonians 2:3 I believe that there is a strong possibility that 2 Thessalonians 2:3 is speaking of the rapture. What do I mean? Some pretribulationists, like myself, think that the Greek noun apostasia, usually translated "apostasy," is a reference to the rapture and should be translated "departure." Thus, this passage would be saying that the day of the Lord will not come until the rapture comes before it. If apostasia is a reference to a physical departure, then 2 Thessalonians 2:3 is strong evidence for pretribulationism. The Meaning of Apostasia The Greek noun apostasia is only used twice in the New Testament. In addition to 2 Thessalonians 2:3, it occurs in Acts 21:21 where, speaking of Paul, it is said, "that you are teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake (apostasia)Moses." The word is a Greek compound of apo " from" and istemi "stand." Thus, it has the core meaning of "away from" or "departure." The Liddell and Scott Greek Lexicon defines apostasia first as "defection, revolt;" then secondly as "departure, disappearance."[1] Gordon Lewis explains how the verb from which the noun apostasia is derived supports the basic meaning of departure in the following: The verb may mean to remove spatially. There is little reason then to deny that the noun can mean such a spatial removal or departure. Since the noun is used only one other time in the New Testament of apostasy from Moses (Acts 21:21), we can hardly conclude that its Biblical meaning is necessarily determined. The verb is used fifteen times in the New Testament. Of these fifteen, only three have anything to do with a departure from the faith (Luke 8;13; 1 Tim. 4:1; Heb 3:12). The word is used for departing from iniquity (2 Tim. 2:19), from ungodly men(1 Tim. 6:5), from the temple (Luke 2:27), from the body (2 Cor. 12:8), and from persons (Acts 12:10; Luke 4:13).[2] "It is with full assurance of proper exegetical study and with complete confidence in the original languages," concludes Daniel Davey, "that the word meaning of apostasia is defined as departure."[3] Paul Lee Tan adds the following: What precisely does Paul mean when he says that "the falling away" (2:3) must come before the tribulation? The definite article "the" denotes that this will be a definite event, an event distinct from the appearance of the Man of Sin. The Greek word for "falling away", taken by itself, does not mean religious apostasy or defection. Neither does the word mean "to fall," as the Greeks have another word for that. [pipto, I fall; TDI] The best translation of the word is "to depart." The apostle Paul refers here to a definite event which he calls "the departure," and which will occur just before the start of the tribulation. This is the rapture of the church.[4] So the word has the core meaning of departure and it depends upon the context to determine whether it is used to mean physical departure or an abstract departure such as departure from the faith. |

10 | Jesus preached in hell? | 1 Pet 3:19 | ebrain | 187392

11 | Could and can disciples forgive sins? | John 20:23 | ebrain | 187388
Hi Ken Harris. Welcome to the Forum. Have a look at the following verses, and you will see that what Jesus was in fact saying to Peter was that what he Peter said to certain individual persons, would in fact have already been decided in Heaven.. Also as John 20:21-23, bellow shows, it will not in fact be them speaking, but the Holy Spirit, speaking through them, as was in fact the case with Jesus who describes here in verses 21, and 22, just how it was that the Father sent Him. Matt 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven. [Isa. 22:22.] Amplifed Bible Matt 16:19 "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." NASB Mat 16:19 "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed[fn3] in heaven." NKJ Footnote 16:19 Or will have been bound . . . will have been loosed Mat 16:19 and I will give to thee the keys of the reign of the heavens, and whatever thou mayest bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever thou mayest loose upon the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens.' Youngs Literal Translation. John 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you." John 20:22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:23 "If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained." May the Lord bless you, and keep you safe. ebrain. |

12 | What should occur after accepting Christ | Acts 10:38 | ebrain | 187358
When Jesus came to earth some 2000 years ago, He not only came to offer Himself as a sinless sacrifice to pay for our sins, and thus enable God to forgive as many as will accept this fact. but also to demonstrate by His life just how we humans were, and are intended by our Father God to behave towards He who made us in His own image. By His life, I mean the attitude of (Not My will, but thine be done) that Jesus continually adopted towards His Father, thus enabling the Father who indwelt the Son, see Jhn 14:10 "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. The Father communicates Himself through the body of the man Jesus to all people with whom He came into contact at that time, and through Scripture now to us. This is the reason why you, if you are a Christian are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, in order that you might allow the other resident within yourself to have right of way in your life, and to do just what He wants to do in and through you. Remember Jesus said, "He who has seen me has seen the Father", Jhn 14:7 "If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him." not that the Father is a human being, Jesus is here referring to conduct and behavior, what He the Father did, and what He said, see Jhn 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son,* who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. Jesus also said, Jhn 15:3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Jhn 15:4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. Jhn 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. Note "without Me you can do nothing" Why do you suppose that Paul said Gal 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Phl 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain Col 1:27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which* is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Gal 4:19 My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you, There is only one person in this whole universe who can live the Christian life to perfection,,, that person lives inside you, and that's why Jesus said what He said at, John 5:19. John 5:30, John 11:41b - 42, John 14:7-10. Ask Him in prayer, why He did things this way, and He will tell you as He told me many years ago, "Because it's the only way you can do it". ebrain. |

13 | Are we all born with the Holy Spirit? | 1 Cor 2:14 | ebrain | 187277
If you mean, are we all born with the Holy Spirit already within us, then the answer is no we are not, as the first verse bellow indicates, but if we do what is described in the next verse, then what is described in both verses will apply. 1 Cor 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. Eph 1:13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, Eph 1:14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory. 14 | A living understanding of Matt. 6:13?? | NT general Archive 1 | ebrain | 187275
Hi BadgerBob. You quoted. Matt 6:13 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]' Our Father will never tempt anyone, but He will however, allow you to be tempted, but only so far as He knows that you can be tempted without falling, see. 1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 1 Cor 10:14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. The following verses may also be of help. James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. James 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. James 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. 1 John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. May the Lord bless you, and keep you safe. ebrain. |

16 | E-Security only for true believers? | Matt 7:21 | ebrain | 186976
The persons refereed to at this verse, and the next, are not born again Christians. Please read both verses, and then read my comments which follow. Mat 7:22 "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' Mat 7:23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' Firstly, no real genuine article born again Christian would dream of boasting of what they have done when they meet the Lord Jesus. Secondly Jesus said, "I never knew you", which means that He never entered into their body in the person of His other self, the Holy Spirit, therefore, this person was never a believer, despite what he says. Note, be very careful, just because a person has done many wonders in His name, that does not mean that he is the real thing, remember the Devil can appear like an angel of light. 2Cr 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 2Cr 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 2Cr 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. Jesus is using the expression "knew you", in the Biblical sense, see Gen 4:1 NOW Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, "I have acquired a man from the LORD." See also, Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, Eph 1:14 who* is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. I hope that this is of help to you. ebrain |

18 | Would Adam and Eve have fallen? | Gen 3:13 | ebrain | 186915
Hi Vincent. Your question made me think that what follows might be of interest. May the Lord bless you, and keep you safe. ebrain. Subject: Fw: The Fall. The popular view on Genesis Ch 3, certainly in this Country is that Adam was a wimp, in that he did nothing to help his wife when she was tempted, however, my investigations have shown him to be a hero. I am interested to find out if others can arrive, or have arrived at the same conclusion. If you have not considered this matter, and wish to do so then I would suggest that you avoid human commentaries, and rely solely on the Divine commentary. The Bible is the best commentary there is on the Bible. Just look at what the word of God has to say else ware about Adam, Eve, and the fall. Good hunting. Yours in Christ. pabrain Time is somewhat limited at the moment, so I will have to be brief. Read Romans Ch 5 v 14. and ask yourself what is meant by Adam being a Type of Him who was to come? What did Jesus do to save His Bride, what did Adam do to save his Bride? Read 2 Cor Ch 5 v 21. "He who knew no sin permitted Himself to be made sin" Also don't forget that Adam was not deceived 2nd Tim Ch 2 v 14. He knew exactly what he was doing. Now how does v15 say that Eve would be saved?. Did Adam go to the tree to obtain the fruit as She did, no he went to her and took the fruit from her,,, he took her sin upon himself. Don't worry about the second part of v 6 of Gen Ch 3. I will explain that another time. Must close now. In Him pabrain My reason for asking this question in the first place was to find out if anyone else arrived at the same conclusion that I had. I once heard a Speaker describe Adam as "A hopeless, helpless, useless, spineless good for nothing, who did not even raise a finger to help his wife who he could clearly see was in danger of disobeying God". The Speaker went on to say that "Eve at least put up token resistance, and as we know from Scripture she was deceived, we also know that Adam was not deceived, which really puts him beneath contempt". All this I found difficult to accept, it did not gel, it did not seem to have the ring of truth. My approach was two fold, firstly from the Divine view point, and secondly from the Satanic view point. The Lord our God created/made all things in 6 days. His comment on the first 5 days was "It is good", regarding the 6th day He said "It is very good" This was the day in which He made man both the male, and the female. I do not think it would be an exaggeration to say that the making of man was for God "The supreme pinnacle of Divine creative genius". He made man in the image of God, and after His likeness, so what likeness of God does Adam display? hopeless, helpless? oh no never, never, not the God that I know. could we say to our Lord "Is this the best that You can do?" I think not. To be continued. In Him stbrain |

19 | Why is it not relevant today? | Matt 12:31 | ebrain | 186912
Hi again M.Royal. Mat 12:31 "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Mat 12:32 "Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. It is relevant today.. You will note that at the end of verse 32 Jesus says, " either in this age or in the age to come." in other words, not only would it not be forgiven then, but not in the future either.. Again in verse 32, this unforgivable sin is described as, "whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit". Now speaking of the Holy Spirit, it is written of Him,, Jhn 16:8 "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:" Now I would say that "speaking against the Holy Spirit" is the same as calling Him a liar. The only way in which a person can be saved, is as a result of accepting the Holy Spirit's conviction that he/she is a sinner, and in desperate need of God's forgiveness,, if the person in question says, "No I am not a sinner", then that is the same as calling the Holy Spirit a liar, and as a result that individual will not be forgiven. |

Hi M.Royal. As you can see from the extract given bellow, the words, to which you refer do not appear in some manuscripts. however, if we accept them as being true, then, Jesus would be refereeing to the Roman soldiers, and not the Pharisees Luk 23:34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”[fn2] And they cast lots to divide his garments. 23:34 Some manuscripts omit the sentence And Jesus… what they do ebrain. |
