1 | Exasperate - examples? | Col 3:21 | cjjeep | 115
I can't expand further than dmspen has already said. I might add that, sometimes in spite of everything you've done, your children can continue in rebellion nevertheless. Consider King David and his son Abasalom. Although a man after God's own heart, David still had problems with his children. Absalom wanted to kill him and one of his sons raped his sister! I had lots of problems with my three children. At one time, my son hated me; my youngest daughter ran away from home, became pregnant and married a womanizer. At the time, things seemed grim, and my wife and I beat outselves up about the situation. However, my children are all adults now, we enjoy each other's company and all this is now in the past. My point is, that things may seem bad, but kids grow up. My advice to you is be very patient, do what you can to keep your children out of trouble, and if they ignore you in persistent rebellion, there's not much you can do. The thing that you don't want to do is cut them off in such a way that they'll never come back. Someday they'll grow up. If you're a patient and loving parent, they'll come back and admit to you that they had acted foolishly in their youth. Try to remember your feelings when you were their age and remember that your actions were probably just as unsensible as theirs are now. Being a teenager is tough and they probably feel that you don't understand what they're going through. --Dave.
2 | Why did God kill Uzzah? | 2 Sam 6:6 | cjjeep | 83
Hello Rose. The question isn't so much why God killed Uzzah but why was it necessary that Uzzah suffer the consequences for his actions? God had commanded that the only persons that may touch the Ark of the Covenant were the Levites. He also warned that anyone else who touched it must die. It seems harsh that, concerned that the Ark might fall over and be damaged, that Uzzah should die because he reached out to steady it. Because God is soveriegn, He demands unquestioning obedience. He doesn't permit us the priviledge of the opportunity to question Him why His decrees must be so strictly obeyed . . . indeed He is angered if we seek to question Him (read Job and how God was upset that Job would question why he was so afflicted). Just like you, King David couldn't undestand this either. God is loving, kind and just; some can't reconcile that He could mete out such harsh consequences for disobedience. That which happened to Uzzah was written that we might understand God's character. Read Mark 16:16. when Jesus said that we who believe and are baptized will be saved, He wants us to remember Uzzah. The second part of Mark 16:16 points out the consequences if we don't obey God. I hope this helps . . . Dave.
3 | Is there sacrifice for sin after Jesus | Heb 10:12 | cjjeep | 81
Good afternoon, Otto. Answering your question can be complicated. For this reason, I need to get some idea of how much you understand the Bible. Do you understand that the Old Testament was God's covenant with a specific group of people, the Jews? Do you understand that the New Testament is God's covenant with people of all nations and that this new covenant supersedes and replaced the old covenant that was made with the Jews? If you'll answer these two questions, it may or may not simplify my answer. Thanks, Dave.
4 | Is this | Rom 6:3 | cjjeep | 80
Yes, this refers to water baptism. Read the conversion of the Ethiopian in Acts 8:26-39. Notice the reference to baptism and water in verses 36-39. Not only was water involved, but it's apparent that the Ethiopian was immersed in the water. If sprinkled, why did they go down into and come up out of the water? Also, referring back to Romans 6, you must be buried with Christ in baptism in order that you might be resurrected with him. This implies being covered by water and, when coming up out of the water, being resurrected a new creation.
5 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | Rom 6:3 | cjjeep | 67
Ekip, yes you must be baptized into Christ to be saved. Romans 6:3 definitely explains that, to be in Christ, you must be baptized into Christ. If you continue to read chapter 6, Paul explained what he meant when he wrote "those who have been baptized into Christ have been baptized into his death." Romans 8:1 promises that there is no condemnation for those of us who are in Christ Jesus. How does someone get in Christ Jesus? Your question answered that: You must be baptized into Christ Jesus. Peter has answered your question even more directly in 1 Peter 3:21. |
