1 | Has Anyone Changed His Mind? | Eph 2:8 | chynna | 51299
Salvation is by grace only, but baptism is important. If it wasn't required, Jesus would have made negative comments on what John the Baptist was doing. Instead, Jesus was baptised by John to meet scripture. Jesus never said it wasn't necessary. Baptism shouldn't be thought of as 'work'. It's a physical human way to show you want to be washed clean of your sin and that you accept Jesus as your Savior.
2 | another hypothetical, applied ethics | James 4:7 | chynna | 47905
Great question. Answering this question, like mine, tells a lot about the person doing the answering. Some people are too quick to judgement. Scary. I have no idea what is going to happen on judgement day, but if you read the new Testament, Jesus seemed the sort to make people think. I think learning scripture is extremely important, but even more important is knowing how to follow it. Jesus did say to love your enemies.

Matthew 5:4. Found what I was looking for myself!
4 | what happened to the tree of knowledge? | Gen 2:9 | chynna | 45886
Yes. Genesis 6 talks about the flood. :-) But you've made me think. Obviously 10 months under water didn't kill all the vegetation. So conceivably that tree, or a seed thereof, could be somewhere on earth. Since the bible doesn't specify the type of tree, it could be the apple tree for all we know. I'm more interested in what happened to the tree of life. Did it have enough life in it to withstand the flood? :)
5 | what happened to the tree of knowledge? | Gen 2:9 | chynna | 45817
It was destroyed with the great flood in Noah's time.
6 | does baptism save us? 1Pet.3:21 | 1 Pet 3:21 | chynna | 45668
Well, let's put it this way. All the examples provided in the Bible on conversion included baptism. Check out Acts 2:14-41, Acts 8:5-13, Acts 8:35-39, Acts 9:17-18, Acts 10:34-48, Acts 16:32 and Acts 16:13. I use to think it wasn't important, but I wasn't at peace until I decided to be baptised. I don't think the act of baptism was meant to be considered work. Jesus was baptised. Which says volumes. |

7 | Can a man know God without a Bible? | Rom 10:17 | chynna | 41892
I don't have any scripture to back me up, but I think the answer is yes to a certain degree. Maybe not an intimate relationship with God, but a relationship with God. I didn't go to church for over 20 years and didn't read the Bible, but God was very much a part of my life and I knew it. But knowing the Bible helps put some things in perspective that wouldn't otherwise be if you didn't have it.
8 | gap between Gensis 1:1 and Gensis 1:2 | Gen 1:2 | chynna | 40478
You can simply type in 'gap theory' in whatever search engine you use and get tons of information on the subject. You can also type it into the quick search at the top of the screen if you want to search this forum. In Gen 1:2 "The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep". Some think that the earth at this point was already created and in total chaos. In addition, some intrepret that passage "And the earth BECAME without form and void". There are all kinds of thoughts of what happened during the time the earth was created and when it BECAME form and void. But if you believe God created everything in seven days, then this theory can't hold any weight. |

9 | God is a spirit? Animals have spirits? | Bible general Archive 1 | chynna | 38904
I am a Christian and I believe very strongly that animals have spirit. I base this on several things in the Bible. In Genesis there are only two things that God created. Animals and Man. When God created Adam and Eve and the animals they were all vegetarians and neither man or the animals were subject to death. In Genesis 9:5 it states, "And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man." There are numerous passages throughout the Bible. Even Jesus says in Matthew (?) that God,His Father is aware of every death, even that of a sparrow. God included the animals in His covenant with Noah. Romans 8:19(KJV) says that all of creation waits in eager expectation for Christs return Take a look at Revelation 4:7 where the living creatures were glorifying God. The twenty four elders said, "...You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being." Now look at Revelation 5:13, "Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever." There are many more passages... |

10 | Does Elijah's confession reflect shame? | 1 Kin 19:4 | chynna | 38623
This may or may not help. After the loss of a loved one, I spent a year in a highly depressed state. I hid it from my husband and children, but there wasn't a day I didn't cry. I'd go so far to say there wasn't a minute of the day that I wasn't cognizant of this fact or my loss. I knew that I should ask someone for help with my grief , but I was too embarrassed. I really believe that God relates to our sorrows and understands them better than we do ourselves. I think at my lowest point, I apologized to God but in my mind I had to hand over my sorrows to Him to carry. I couldn't do it anymore. I find it amazing that you can cry everyday for a year and never run out of tears. He took my sorrow and gave me peace of heart in return. There is an end to sorrow. And killing yourself is not the answer. Since I don't know what is bothering you that makes you so sad, I have no idea if this helps. I hope it does. I'm a very shy person and have trouble reaching out to people. I really think God wants us to reach out to others in times of need. Ironically I find it harder to admit my problems to my family than to strangers on an internet forum. I'm praying for you to be strong through whatever is troubling you and that you find the help you need. I do believe God will take it from you, but sometimes it's a guessing game as to how He is going to take it. It may be directly through Him or He may lead you to someone else.
11 | Adam used to eat from the tree of life? | Genesis | chynna | 35372
I kind of thought that Adam and Eve ate from the tree of life and had to do so in order to remain immortal. Once they stopped eating from it, they would eventually age. The Bible states the only tree off limits was the one of good and evil.

13 | How to reconize and know the holy spiri | Bible general Archive 1 | chynna | 34667
I'd like to share my own experience with this. Throughout my life (I'm 37) I have had moments that I felt God asking me to be baptized. This feeling would come out of the blue, no rhyme or reason to it. I remember this in my highschool days, college days, after I was married, etc. I would wonder over it for a while and push it away. I didn't go to church and had too many issues with God, although ironically enough, I can honestly say we had a relationship. I often talked to Him about life. Things I liked, things that upset me, etc. But I told Him outright I was not going to be baptized. I see no need to explain my reasoning here. About a year ago, I lost a family member who I really loved. I've lost people before in my life, family members included, but none of these losses touched my soul the way this did. My sorrow was intense. There wasn't a day I didn't cry. Honestly, I cried every day for a year. No one in my life today knows this. Then one day that feeling hit me again. The feeling I needed to be baptized. I hadn't been to church in over 20 years at this point, but I would say I felt close to God. I'm not going to go into detail, but I never doubted that God was always with me. But this time, the thought of being baptized was overwhelming. It consumed much of my thoughts. Everywhere I went it seemed like I saw or read something about being baptized. I even went to church a couple times. Then one day I was sitting in traffic. Traffic was backed up for miles and I was brooding and my mind was starting to drift and sadness was once again setting in. A car pulled in front of me that had a bumper sticker that simply stated a Chapter number and verse from the Bible. I sat there staring at it until curiosity got the better of me. At this point I was carrying my bible with me. I opened it to where the bumper sticker on the car in front of me said. It said to be baptized. I just sat there staring at it and out of the blue I asked out loud, "Why? Why do you want me to be baptized? I just don't understand." And I heard the most clear answer although the words were not spoken out loud. God answered and He said, "You understand the sorrow and pain that comes from losing someone you love with all your heart and soul. I feel this sorrow many times over with each soul I lose...and I am losing you." Wow. I couldn't get baptized fast enough. Now I do have a thirst to understand and know God. I doubt I'll ever be a person, like many on this board, who can memorize and spout chapter and verse in answer to questions. But I'm doing the best I can to learn as much about the Bible as I can. I hope this helps you somehow. It felt good to write it down. God bless.
