1 | what is the purpose of baptism? | Eph 2:8 | cfdfire22 | 79206
No. Baptism is not a requirement for forgiveness of sins and/or salvation. If it were, then the thief on the cross next to Jesus would be in hell today, and Jesus would be a lier and the Word of God would be nule and void. Jesus is not a lier, and the Word of God is alive and Powerful today and forever more, and the thief is with Jesus just as He promised him he would be. However, baptism is the 2nd act of obedience to Christ, the first being, coming to Him in faith receiving Him as Savior and Lord. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God: not of works lest any man should boast. We should follow Jesus in baptism just as He was baptized by John the Baptist, if we have opportunity. There are many who don't have that opportunity for various reasons. As for how to be baptized, that is up to you and God. I personally believe in full emertion. Others have different ideas. Not an issue in my book. The issue is salvation, and that is by grace through faith in Christ by God.
