1 | Jesus comitted a suicide ? | 1 John 3:16 | bigot | 165517
Smoking is a sin because it damages our bodies, which are supposed to be the temple of the Lving God and living sacrifices Romans 12. Jesus did not commit suicide. He was executed by Roman soldiers. Yes, He knew that in coming to our world as a sacrifice, He would die but it was a sacrificial atoning death, not suicide to free Him from a life which had become useless or filled with self-loathing, or any of the other reasons people commit suicide. He also knew that He would rise from the dead after 3 days. In John's Gospel He said that the Father had given Him power to lay down His life and to take it back again. We are not to hate our lives. Again in the Gospel of John, Jesus said that He had come so we might have life and have it more abundantly. We are not to live vain lives, but there is nothing sinful about loving life and enjoying it, provided we are not doing so in ways which are displeasing to God.
2 | Did my dad go to heaven or hell? | Matt 18:3 | bigot | 165430
Ultimately, we do not know if anyone is in hell or heaven. God is the only judge of this and the only One who knows with any certainty. Wherever people end up however, it is not Biblically sound to pray for those who have died. For good or bad, the eternal destiny of every person is sealed at the moment of death. Paul wrote that it is appointed unto man once to die and thereafter the judgement. The only thing we can do is witness to people while they are alive and for ourselves, trust in the only Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ for our salvation. If those who have died could speak to us (and they can not) they would tell us to avoid hell at any cost, just as Jesus did while He lived on earth.
3 | joseph and mary - if poor-where's proof | Luke 2:24 | bigot | 165356
They were poor. The wise men came with gifts after Joseph and Mary took Jesus to be circumcised. The price they paid for the redemption of a first born son under the law, as the absolute minumum required from those too poor to offer a lamb. Joseph and Mary may well have had to live by selling the gifts the wise men brought, or from Joseph's trade.
