"In the beginning the word was WITH God," if the word (Jesus), was with God, would it not be correct to assume that they're separate beings? I cannot be with myself, the same as God cannot be with Himself, He is God. John was clearly stating the realtionship between the two. If verse 1 held true than verse 2 would be pointless. | ||||||

There really isn't any scripture in the bible that clearly states that Jesus is God. It's usually made in reference to something. Your friend is most likely a Jehovah's Witness. John 1:1 would be plain as day but I would encourage you to research the context and language of this scripture.
